not really. as far as the actual engine goes the 2-jz is a much better/stronger engine than the rb26, and anyone who knows about engines, no matter how much of a nissan fan they are, will say the same. most of the toyota engines are better built than their nissan counterpart.

Not trying to start an argument mate but I think the differences, when you are comparing similar age and kilometre engines (Non 32 of course) are rather negligable, you can make a lot of power with a stock 26 and it isnt exactly put to shame considering a 2j is 0.4L bigger.

The 2jz is just the new flavour of the month, and dont misunderstand me here, its an absolutely fantastic engine.

Cheers,

Mitch.

you can make close to twice as much power on an unopened 2jz as you can on a rb26 (quite a few 2jz's making up around 800hp unopened. don't think you'll find many rb's that can do that). i call that a much better engine. this isn't about being flavour of the month. this simply comes down to how well the engines are built and what they are made with. the 2jz is a much stronger engine (taking strength, not power here).

The 2jz does indeed make very nice power for an unopened engine, however for a fair comparison you would need to equalise displacement as a 2.6 Litre engine must do more work then a 3.0 Litre engine for a given power output.

As a consequence, the diplacement of an engine is linked with its reliability over varying power levels.

Also, 800hp is alot, even for a 2j and from what I have seen, people looking at this sort of power will still generally go the forged route, indeed many with much lower power goals do this.

Just quickly, i'm not what you would consider a 'fanboy' i just like to compare apples and apples, good discussion though :)

as already mentioned, the 7M is great when prepared well. makes a shitload of low-down torque. good option over 1JZ if you're that way inclined

engines with hydraulic valve lifters won't suffer valve bounce. it's to do with the natural frequency of the engine- at higher and higher rpm it gets closer to the natural frequency of the valve spring, which causes the spring to resonate and do it's own thing. hydraulic lifters help- when they reach the natural frequency they just freeze (open or closed, can't remeber exactly)
