dont worry bout it mate, i cop shit for mine being an old piece of ricer crap on a daily basis at work and i have a 34...just look at the fact that if u spent as much money modifying your 33 as the extra they spent buying a VE etc than urs would look a million times better... btw the latest shit ive been copping at work is that my bosses cars would beat mine in a race and they have a bentley continental, an audi rs6?? i think it is and a brand new m3...point is mate that for the years they were made the skylines are right at the top of the class, but ignorant people just make ridiculous comparisons with them all the time, maybe we should be flattered

haha this!

this kid at work just wont accept the fact that a $16,000 - $20,000 skyline thats 16 years old, can trump some of the latest $60,000 ford's and holden's.

it pisses him off to the extent that he has to literally walk away in shame!

i can can understand why ye olde die-hard muscle/v8 folk dont like imports.

are you refering to a stock skyline or a modified skyline, cause a stock skyline will get absolutely hosed by most new $60,000 fords and holdens. if you are comparing a modified skyline to a stock ford/holden well then that is a slightly disadvantaged comparison. compare an equally modified ford/holden to the skyline and again, the skyline will more than likely get hosed.

2 things to take into consideration. 1: price when new (taking into account inflation) probably wasn't that far off the HSV's (for example, the ADM r32 GTRs were $100,000, while at the time the top model HSV was only about $50,000), 2: in a crash the HSV would greatly out perform the skyline as far as safety goes, 3: comfort wise the HSV shits all over the 33, 4: the new cars have to meet much stricter emissions standards, and therefore are pretty drastically under tuned. throw an aftermarket tune on a new commodore or falcon and the power increase is pretty impressive.

i'm not saying that skylines are shit or that commodores are great, simply that if you are going to compare them, at least do it on a level playing field.

1) we are not in 1994 we are in 2010, what they cost new has no bearing, what they cost today is all that counts to me.

2) And every thing else made in 1994 (except maybe volvo lol)

3) hang on you only said 2 things????

3) that is the difference being a pure sports car and a family car with power.

4) the gen 3's put out much more power in the states where omissions standards are much stricter (most go off the california resrtictions which are the tightest in the world i believe)why cant they release the power here, even when we exported the monaro to the states and europe they had more power than we did, in europe they got an option of a super charger from factory, cant be an emission thing there since i believe we use the euro emission rating system.

And for the record the 317 hsv's (not the current ones) put out around 235rwkw, with an exhaust, a mafless tune and a cold air intake they get to about 270rwkw, not all that much considering they weigh 1800+kg.

for number 3: the skyline isn't a pure sports car, it is a sporty family car. the GTR is a sports car, the rest aren't (S series cars are more sports cars than GTS and GTS-t skylines). anyone that says that they are, well then you should also say that a bog standard 1.5L lancer is also a sports car because the EVO is and they are from the same platform.

you still can't compare a stock new car to a modified older car. or even a stock old car to a modified old car. if you take a VS commodore that someone has bolted some turbos or supercharger to and compare it to a skyline then the skyline might be the slower of the 2, even if it is midly modded, and the commodore would probably cost half of the skyline to buy (including the modifications). or you could buy a stock BA xr6t for 15 or 20k, spend 20 or 30k on modifying it and have it faster in a straight line or around a track than an r35 GTR at half the cost. basically my point is that it is a pointless comparison.

Well when i do a comparison between performance cars one of the first things i look at is "bang for buck", when it comes to skylines V's new commodores i believe a turbo skyline will win every time.

well of course if you do a bang for buck. but at the same time a datsun with a sr20 bolted in it will beat a skyline in bang for buck as well. you can't compare a new car to an old car in a "bang for buck" situation because the new car is always going to lose due to the price. that doesn't make the skyline a "better" car, simlpy a decent car at a low price. hell, compare a 2007 r35 GTR to an 2010 or 11 one and the new one looks pretty shit, even though they are the same car, just one is new and one isn't. it's a totally pointless comparison.

using your theory it also means that the r33 GTS-t is THE BEST skyline currently available (or you could possibly say the r31). even better than an R34 GTR. they are dirt cheap (the cheapest of the turbo skylines), and it will go as fast as, or close enough to any of the other skylines. so bang for your buck the r33 GTS-t is the best skyline. it also means that out of the GTRs the r33 and r32 would be in a close race to be the winner (although it would most likely be taken out by the very early model r32's which are most prone to oil starvation issues when tracked and have a slower ATESSA system and are getting a bit long in the tooth now), but both being much better than the r34, which is obviously just a waste of money and therefor a shit choice...... out of the natros the aussie r31's must be the best bang for your buck choice. can be bought for next to nothing and with a few minor mods can be nearly as fast as an r33 or r34. although a vn commodore is a much better choice since they can be picked up for a few hundred dollars and are just as fast, if not faster than a r33 or r34 natro. why spend $8000, or $10000 on a natro 33 or 34 when you can spend $500 on a dirty old vn commodore or ea falcon and have a car that is just as fast? do you see my point yet? if you can justify properly why someone looking for a natro skyline should spend their money on a skyline instead of a cheap hunk of shit commodore (with valid points and not just saying "commodores are shit", etc", then i will drop this. if you can't (which is almost certain) then it validates my point that comparing a new car to an old car, especially using the "bang for your buck" excuse, is absolutely pointless.

bang for buck + personal choice + car usage + budget= every one will make a different decision.

But is you dont have 180k to spend a new gtr then you have to adjust to what you can afford, maybe some one dosnt like 34's so yes the 33gtr is the better choice, or maybe they dont like the 33 or 34 and want a 32gtr.

BTW cbf reading you whole last post so my point may not have any relation to it.

lol debate. i'll keep my R33.....you can go buy a commo if your friends tell you to

as a comparison. the equiv of an R33 gtst would be a VR-VS SS commo. which nowadays would be worth around the same....and still slower :P

fix the bonnet, get a nice set of deep dish wheels, get a set of coil overs, sit it at a decent but not stupid low ride height, find a LSD for the rear. and i have a awesome drivers car, that you can go play in the twistys all night and have a awesome time. Your mates in there newer commo's and there shitty autos, would never and could never have as much fun as a lighter, stiffer, manual car.... than is fun to trash around in.

i used to have the same R33 same colour and all. I had black deep dish wheels and a nice exhaust and decent suspension... for a P plate car is was awesome.

the only reason i have a 33 is because I like them. Always loved skylines since i first saw them, and after owning a few I still love having them.

There are better cars out there, more powerful cars out there, more reliable cars out there, less money pit cars out there....but I just like it.

At the end of the day that's what being a car enthusiast is, doing it because you like doing it.

Couldn't agree more. Owning a performance car is about personal preference, which comes down to speed, style, feel, etc etc. Of course everyone will have different opinions when it comes to that. I personally love the sound and style of Skylines, and i don't think i will change for a hell of a long time.

I myself believe that yes. The R33 is outdated. It also happens to be 15ish years old. lol. That being said. I also own a 99 statesman. Regulary drive a current shape statesman, and use a work car which is one of the latest shape wagons.

Although they look newer and more current. They don't feel newer to me. There just seems to be no "soul" in them to actually drive. My wife always tell me off because I dont look after our statesman the same and gets angry when I say I hate it and it doesn't deserve the same treatment as the skyline

It wouldnt help that you have a non turbo version as you wont have the power to keep up with the V8's. However you can easily fix that and put a turbo on it. Another option would be to look at an R34 GTT. They don't cost a whole lot these days and powerwise will hold there own straight from the shelf. They also dont look much more modern in the interior and exterior.

I can garrentee to you though that with your non turbo R33, a change of suspension parts, lightweight wheels and a new exhaust to give it some noise, you will make them look dated on a nice windy road. Commo's feel like absolute Poo in the corners.

Current model V8 = All engine and shiny paint.

Luke

or a HR31 if you like a challenge (and a chick deterrent lol)

Have had one for the past 3 and a bit years now! Even though mine is abit of a project and garage queen that hardly gets driven i still love it to bits! I love the boxeness of them! Designed from leggo block i personally believe, even pretty much everyone i work with dislikes it i don't care!

Skylines were ahead in there young days! Even now you may have to spend extra on it to get it going like your VZ Falcon etc but it's your own personal preference. If you think your car is out dated and you reckon a commo or falcon will meet your needs go for it, i would never buy or own anything that isn't Nissan or Mazda but that is just me.
