ECU tuning

Hi everyone, I bought light tune R34 GTT, and now I am thinking to buy a engine management and Blitz boost controller i-color DS for that. Here is the story

I went to A-tuning workshop, I saw they do import skyline mainly around 90% in their stock. So I asked them which I should go for, then they told me if the best is Vi PEC, and it will be around 2000-2600 include tune, or nismo tune, it is around 1000 include tune.

I was thinking go for nismo one, cuz if any changes in the future, I don’t want to change it by myself, I don’t have the knowledge and I don’t want to learn how to tune it via Vi PEC, I think is complicated, but for the nismo one, I can’t do any adjust by myself, so is mean once I tune it, and if I make any changes, I need to go back and pay for tune, but for the ViPEC I have the access ability. At last they suggest me to go for the nismo tune, cuz I will not make any changes in the future even I do I will go back for tune

Then few days later

I went to B-tuning workshop, I told the same thing to the owner, then he suggest me go for power FC (about 2000 they said), but as I can remember power FC won’t do any better then Vi PEC, and in total ViPEC cost a bit less, so then I ask him about Nismo, he suggest me to save that money and buy power FC, he said ViPEC is ok, but only problem is only 1 guy is expect to operate it, and Nismo tune is not really for 34, it won’t totally match up and if it’s 33 or 32 he will suggest that, but not 34.

Also when I asking about boost controller, he said I don’t need any if I bought power FC, just set the psi to max (which is around 11-12psi for stock turbo), but the blitz DS have muti-psi function, so is mean you can set different psi in different rpm, then he disagree and tell me that if I set the psi to max, I can use my foot to adjust the psi when I step the pedal. So at last B-tuning think I should get the powerFC and A-tuning for Nismo. Also A-tuning told me after I vist B-tuning, Nismo only not for 33, sure will match up for 34, and they still insist to get Nismo.

OK, so anyone in here know more about ECU tuning than me, I need some help down here.

P.S I am not tell which workshop, I don't want to state which workshop is wrong or not

1) You are referring to a Nistune which is not a Nismo Tune and has no affiliation with Nismo what so ever.

2) You should really choose a shop to do the tune that you trust and take their advice and use whatever ECU they feel the most comfortable tuning with.

3) Nistune is a daughterboard which works in conjuction with your stock ecu where as PowerFC and Vipec's are full replacement ECU's.

4) If I was you, I would just go the nistune. Cheapest, unless you are going to fiddle around with the tune (PowerFC) or need extra options e.g Antilag etc (Vipec).

5) You should probably talk to more shops and then make a decision or you have got the information you just stated wrong. See the consolidated workshop thread.

Hyperdrive, Kensei Garage, Allstar Garage & C-Red all do Nistunes and yes Nistunes do work on R34s.

Nistune is cheaper than any other ECU, Looks stock and in a streetcar can not be beaten for drivability, economy and performance.

You will have much less trouble if you get a yellow sticker and best of all is just about all of use Tuners support them so you have other options if the tuner you pick is not to your liking.

Most aftermarket ECUs still have faults but Nissan have their ECUs well sorted.

  • 3 weeks later...

i hope i am not hijacking too much but here goes. Is there anyone in perth that could work with a MINES ecu? i believe they are essentially a chipped factory ecu, like NISTUNE. since MINES ecus are tuned in japan for 100ron, has anyone heard of a MINES being remapped for 98ron?

is it really worth a retune over 2 ron? application in question is R34 GTR and MINES ecu (stage 1, exhaust, filters and boost up approx 1 bar)

My understanding of the Mines ECU is that it was basically a replacement of the factory ECU with one that suits basic mods for whatever car you have, and it can't really be tuned? Which is why so many people are against them, because they aren't really made for your car, so they often cause problems because your car will be a little bit different to the one that Mines designed it for.

Correct me if i'm wrong anyone, that is just what i have picked up after reading about it on here.

A Mines ECU is essentially a remap, not Nistune. Nistune is a daughterboard that allows live tuning over the consult port. I guess you *could* remap a Mines ECU but it would be just like remapping a stock ECU, no benefit whatsoever because you got a _MINES_ one to start with.

Just Nistune it.

Most Jap roms are locked and also are setup for the Japanese fuels and environment which basically f**k motors when they arrive here. Most have huge amounts of timing because of the different fuel and factors in JP, I was making 400hp@10psi with a Garagesauras rom then on inspection of my bearings they resembled a battlefield from 1914. Adjustment with a Powerfc the same power was achieved with 15 or 16 pound safely, this was a few years ago now.
