Well said mate. Just because you're a multi-millionaire doesn't mean you have to be in Euro gear. Particularly in a country where this brand is better known than any other, limited editions are always going to fetch alot of money / retain their value well. Anyone who writes this off as just a Commodore with a bit of kit...has some dislike for Holden IMO :P

Hahahah birds yeah I get it now, I didn't notice it was some sort of special monaro and if it is one of a kind I guess it is worth heaps. But there is no way it will hit 900k at the auctions whenever it comes up, 900k was way too steep for any modern holden car, no matter if its one of a kind or just a rare car. I could justifly that money on a one of a kind original monaro, but not a modern one (well not for the next 30 years untill it reaches classic classification). One off's are meant to go up in value, I fear it has already been bought at the higher end of the spectrum (unless another couple of seriously cashed up collector find it and battle for it).

Only reason I say this is because a couple of years ago Ferrari (who has a much bigger name and an even bigger history with more cashed up followers around the world) were selling some of their older stuff. There was a prototype of the famous Testarosa, nearly 30 years old now, one of the most famous cars ever produced (except for Herby), similar story to this monaro. the car sold for 1million Euro and it had world wide publicity, there was a larger pool of collectors with even bigger checkbooks on a car with world wide history with a brand at the pinacle of automotive achievement. This testarosa was faster, a one off development example to see if they could build it at that speed and spec for a price range they could meet. That model of the Testarosa failed because it became too expensive to mass produce. Long story short they dulled the car down alittle to save costs. SO that testarosa is pretty similar to this monaro on a one off build point of view.

Thats why I think it's over priced by comparing it to another example a couple of years back. But I do understand that these things sometimes can not be estimated and if a bidding war occurs with people with the coin behind them to back it up who knows? This car could end up being one of the worlds most expensive street driveable modern day car???

And for the record I am far from a Holden fan, But I do like some of their 7 Litre engines because a good car is a good car for millions of reasons and it generally has nothing to do with the brand name.

He was clearly doing something right to be put in the position to buy these cars in the first place. I highly doubt that buying these cars would have had anything to do with whatever he does to make money.

Pure ignorance.

Relax it was pure tongue and cheek, nothing ignorant in what I said, especially if your a Ford guy :P

I actually find it a shame that he would have to part with such a collection of machinery as it is obviously his passion in life and no one achieves that kind of thing without years of hard work.

It's obvious this guy loves his Australian cars, he had the pockets to fund his passion, it is a great shame to part with this, none of us can imagine what it feels like. And it doesn't matter if he was loosing his collection of Lambos or morris minnis, a colection of any sort would most probably consume a large chunk of his life and achievement. If I lost that collection i'd probably spend months in bed thinking all is lost.

But for all we know he might have chosen to sacrifice the cars to save the rest of his business in the hope of buying them back at a later date???????

Yeah I agree with you on that Kujo, that he probably purchased this car before the GFC (and the whole world turning to shit) when limited edition muscle cars were all the buzz and therefore may not get the 900k back now (particularly through pickles). But who knows, there are still millionaires in this country and their incomes are just as disposable as before :P

Definitely be interesting to see what it goes for.

That's something like 1.6-1.7AUD, twice as much as what this car sold for.

lol its nowhere near twice as much.

But the point is that Ferrari has plenty more followers and collectors than holden. More of their customers are cashed up like crazy, they have a world wide audience where as Holden is only Australia and New Zealand. A base model Testarosa back then costs more than what a new base model monaro was worth new a few years ago. If your someone that belives in statistics or trends to guesstimate prices, the odds say that 900k is way too much for what it is. Especially since it is a recent car. Recent cars even if they are one off's should never go for that much. I would have thought this cars value wouldn't have been much more than $300k, but then over time it would reach $900k. There are one off holdens from the 60's and 70's that are fetching half a million dollars today, but thats after 40 or so years of appreciation.

But as I said before these things sometimes just defy logic and if someone really wants one they will pay whatever they need to make the car theirs. But the chances of that car getting $900k back at the auctions are pretty low but not impossible.

But does anybody know how the car came to be 900k? was it a bidding war or private sale by holden?

It would be intersting to follow this car throughout the years as it changes owners and to see how it fares on the world stage price wise.

there are agents who attend pickles picking up stuff for the middle east/US collectors too.

It is unlikely a us or middle eastern is collecting these cars though. A collector knows that the modern pontiac GTO only shares a badge in common with the originals, no history or pedigree.

PS: I think the 69 pontiac GTO's are the bomb

Edit: but who am I kidding, those arabs buy anything and everything. You probably need to own the oil fields just to find the amount of fuel to keep that engine ticking over.

It's def chookas, here is the condition report from Pickles Clicky look at the build number, ED0001 same as chookas.

Interesting that the condition on teh panels says "FAIR" would have thought they would be perfect!

I agree with pretty much everything else your saying, except

lol its nowhere near twice as much.

1700000AUD is practically twice as much as 900000AUD. probably not worth that, but hell, that's what was paid for it.

yes $1.7million is practically double $900 000, but 1 000 000 euro is only about $1.4million AUD, that is very far from double of $900 000. I think you converted wrong.

Let's be honest, as a car enthusiast I wouldn't mind owning any one of those cars...with economy the way it is I fear the guy probably wouldn't make back the money he paid on these cars, including some of the older ones which he probably put a lot of time and money into restoring.

edit: I also like the fact he has kept them all in original condition and hasn't modded them. True aussie muscle car enthusiast this guy.
