Ericjayrol
Hey, I was on the M5 the other night at around 1am and there was a fully modded R34 GT-T on the road, it had an auto salon 07 finalist sticker on it and its an orange colour with a black GT style wing on it. Anyway, as I pulled up next to it in my N/A R34 GT25 it took off and then slowed down again, as I pulled up to it again he brought down his window, so I did too and he asked me to go for it. I thought this would be a good chance to find out just how much slower an N/A is compared to the turbo model and when we went for it, I flew past with no trouble at all... When we slowed down again, he seemed pretty pissed off and wanted to keep going at it, so we spent a bit of time going at it and everytime, I seemed to fly past easily keeping it no nigher than 5k RPM, eventually I decided to wait till his turbo spooled up before I took off and once again there was no trouble at all... Is it really possible that a twin turbo charged car can be SO badly maintained that my car can easily beat it? Does anyone here know the car and perhaps know of its service history, or lack of? Im quite interested as its starting to turn me off the idea of a turbo, even though ive driven another turbo when I was on my L's and it felt a lot faster and responsive compared to what his driving was, is it maybe just his driving style? I attached some photos of the night my passenger took Edited May 3, 2010 by Ericjayrol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/ Share on other sites
XFA993
Should at least get his number plate so the coppers can knock on his door tomorrow. GTT got one turbo by the way. How can you be so sure that his car is fully mod ! ? I know for the fact that his GT wing give him extra 30 kW at the wheel. On the serious bit, maybe you were racing with NA coupe mate. scotty014
are you 100% sure his was a gt-t and not the same as yours? i only ask that because i used to own a 25gt and now have a gtt and im one million percent sure that a gtt will crush a 25gt. you can also look at the specs 147kw vs 206kw. Marcus89
No way an GT would beat a GT-T under regular circumstances. I'm betting his was a GT maybe with GT-T badging on it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5212649 Share on other sites

FrangaR33
You gotta remember its all about the condition a car is in, not what power it had when it rolled out of the factory, my dad's VT Berlina Auto (HSV enhanced) routinely destroys LS1 manuals because he has spent so much time and money on maintaining it. If you only throw money at a car for visual and performance mods and spend no money on routine maintenance it will just fall apart around you piece by piece, especially Skylines there a finely tuned machine, not some VN commodore which will run forever with f**k all oil in it. Ericjayrol
mobil one oil? What does my oil have to do with it? I use Penrite 10W 50. franga, yeah that was what I was thinking, because it didn't sound too healthy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5212783 Share on other sites
scotty014
maybe his clutch was slipping? or he is having the good old coilpack issue and its missfiring. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5212816 Share on other sites
Ericjayrol
I didn't hear or see any misfiring, but clutch slip is possible i suppose Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5212856 Share on other sites
scotty014
I didn't hear or see any misfiring, but clutch slip is possible i suppose im not trying to sound like a jerk or anything while im saying these possibilities, its just ive owned both and still own the gtt. and comparing them i could definately tell a huge difference and if i put my old 25gt up against my gtt i know it would destroy it. on another note only reason i mentioned clutch slip is because my mate got a xr6 turbo ute and when he was driving back from queensland he couldnt hit boost hard or anything because it kept slipping until the clutch finally just went. Ericjayrol
sneakey, I don't think its fake, but i cant rule it out... scotty, I know your not being a jerk, nothing you've said has been offensive to me. Your clutch slipping theory seems to have some good grounds to explain things though. .:: GimpS-R34 ::.
Ever consider that it's the driver? I am assuing the M5 is a highway.. if his car is a manual.. he's prob in 5th.. and he's prob Mr Awesome.. and Mr. Awesome thinks that racing involves planting your foot down and away he goes.. But in reality if he isnt dropping back gears, his uber cool Autosalon GTT can be beaten by a little four-banger whos dropped gears and revving its tits off.. if you had to wait for him to spool the turbo then i am assuming he either has a massive turbo or is a noob Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5213440 Share on other sites
Ericjayrol
Yeah, I'm gonna put it down as a really badly maintained engine and a crap driver. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5213514 Share on other sites
mad082
+1 for crap driver not dropping back a gear or 2. and isn't autosaloon all about how pretty the car is, not about how many killer wasps it has? also for all we know the guy could've had a brand new engine in the thing and only be running 5psi on a very conservative tune. 8110
Probably just an NA disguised as a turbo along with the shish-bang of recorded turbine whine and bovs? Hehehe [] Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5213623 Share on other sites
Ericjayrol
If he was keeping it conservative, would he really have wanted to go for it? Wouldn't that give people the impression his car is crap? lol for disguised with recorded sounds haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319088-25gt-v-gt-t/#findComment-5213690 Share on other sites
Munkyb0y
when i see these 'autosalon' style cars. i just naturally assume theyre slow, and the owner's interests are all about looks, bling, and all that gay shit. i dont think they'd care about putting false badging on the car, running a fake bov, or even, and this was mentioned in another thread, putting a fmic on an NA. lol obviously, this is a huge blanket statement, and wont always be true. but for the most part, this is the way i see it.
