hey guys,

I finished installing my new turbo pretty much by myself,

My tuner told me that I need an oil restrictor inline to the oil feed line.

this is a pic from the oil feed line of my turbo (3076r), notice inside it gets smaller, is that what he is talking about or do I need that little circular thing placed actually in the oil feed line?

Thanks,

Adam

P.s I have all new speedflow fittings with braided lines

sorry, was heading out the door to uni, just wanted to know so I could hopefully have an answer when I got back so thanks. Found out the answer, for people that are interested that is a 2mm restrictor inbuilt and it needs an additional 0.8mm one inline.

That is incorrect.

The 0.8mm restrictor is in the side of the one you are looking at. You don't need to add anything.

All this is covered in the other thread if you read it

Hmm, interesting, now that I have had some time I read through the other thread.

So why would my tuner say it is required to install an additional .8mm inline restrictor then? and he is aware of the existing 2mm one in the turbo.

this wouldnt have anything to do with the fact that the car was N/A and now turboed? the oil pumps would be the same if not mine would be weaker then a standard GTST pump?

P.s for the smart asses - my tuner is not me, he is an extremely reliable mechanic who knows skylines in and out and is often spoken off on these forums.

he sound like a good tuner

most turbo's only need a certain amount of flow. he would have done an oil return test and decided that there was to much flow. normal less than 2L per minute. 1.8 for BB

To much flow will actual reduce efficiency of bearings hence boost response. possibly push oil past the seal and get smokey as well.

pay him to do it he most likely will have a few to test from to work what is best

No it has nothing to do with N/A and Turbo, the oil pumps are the same. The garrett turbo you have does not have any 2mm restrictor in place. It has an oil inlet that is approx 2 or 3mm in diameter, then on the side of the tube internally it has a 0.8mm hole that feeds oil to the bearings. You DO NOT need to add anything except it is recommended to put a filter inline to protect the turbo against oil contamination as suggested above.

You can add as many restrictors as you like, but you will slow the oil down that is heading to the inbuilt one. This will reduce oil flow to the turbo and possibly damage it. The only sure fire way to know is to doa flow test from the return pipe and contact Garret to find out what that particulat turbo needs to have as oil flow. You will find it will be within their specs with the inbuilt one

Ye i can confirm the above - When my GT30 was rebuild and pulled apart i got all the old pieces in a bag.

The restrictor is internal, what you see on the outside is not actually the full story of what's going on inside :(

The Garrett turbos used to come with a "fact sheet" about this stuff - doen't they have it anymore? (was a brief warning etc)

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
