If you have a S2 you should get a Nistune chip - real value at about $350. If you have a S1 auto its quite a different story. It can be made tunable with a daughterboard and chip from someone like Toshi or Dr Drift but looking at getting on for $1000. Another option is GReddy E-manage which can be piggybacked on to your ecu.

For a street driven car, you cannot go past the Nistune for value and performance.

I have asked this question to a few very experienced people on here who have used them ALL

They have all said nistune.

I previously had a power fc in mine, but sold it a long time ago. Now have a nistune and will be on the dyno in 2 weeks time chasing 300rwks or roughly 480-500hp at the engine. The max I have heard on here is 650hp with a nistune. There seems to be no real limit for a street car.

Generally with the new stand alone ecu's, you are paying for alot of features you will never ever use.

Had a motec on a previous car. The biggest waste of $4k.

Having a manual your options are a little more open than most of us stagea owners but i'd still look into a Nistune board before shelling out big buck for top end ecu's like Vipec, Haltech etc. Nistune is more than good enough for a street car and at about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a full aftermarket ecu.

I have a Nistune. Like a few other people have said, it's a cheap but effective way to make decent improvements without having to fork out a lot of cash for an aftermarket ecu. They're set up by a guy here in Adelaide and there was a group buy on them a while ago so that thread would have all the info on them. nistune thread

thanks guys .whats the fist thing that max's out im after better fuel economy and a little more power?

you wont have to worry about maxing out anything unless you upgrade to a bigger turbo. the injectors, afm, etc will all easily handle a couple of mods like FMIC and exhaust, a bit more boost and a tune on the stock turbo.

I'm running a plug-in Vipec on my 260RS. Had it for 18 months now and can't really fault it. They keep bringing out firmware upgrades and it just keeps getting better :( Otherwise, I would also vote Nistune (if it's available for your ECU). I had it on my old GTI-R and it worked brilliantly.

Im currently sending my ECU(Series 2 Neo) direct to Matt at Nistune in the next couple of days.

Type 4 Board + install + postage = $367.00

Ben at Gavin Woods, here on the Gold Coast will be tuning it. Approx. 2x hours Dyno time (if that :) )

Mods: FMIC, TBE, Pod, EBC, CAI..

Ive spoken to several Stagea owners, running various ECU's(E-Manage, Nistune, PFC etc) with the same mods. Each owner has reported 270 - 290 Hp @ 11-12 PSI AND Approx. 600-650km Per full tank :) .

The fuel economy will pay for the Nistune in no time :D

Thats how Im trying to justify getting a tune done also. I had my car in at Boost Worx in Adelaide a few times to try and get a bit more fuel economy out of it - they think an aftermarket ECU is the next step for me and were waiting to hear back on another workshop who were fitting a Haltech Inteceptor to an M35 to see how that went before we proceeded.. I should really follow them back up :O

You might want to ask JetWreck about the Haltech, I'm sure he put one in his ARX and then took it out again. He currently has an ECU in korea and once the workshop in Silverwater, NSW can read the data they will be trialling and developing a remap system. Should be interesting if the people in Korea pull their finger out and get it done.

Cheers for the heads up! Might be worth a chat, the guys at Boost Worx seem pretty excellent thus far; if they werent confident the Haltech would be any good I cant see them recommending it. Cant hurt to hear from someone elses first hand experience just in case though :P

Remapping of the OEM ECU would be awesome, but it sounds like thats not something I should be holding my breath for?

It's been a long time coming, hopefully it will happen but the ECU has been in Korea for a while now and it's always a couple more weeks away from finalisation. Fingers crossed it happens as I'm after better fuel economy too.

Definately check with JetWreck about the Haltech Interceptor, I'm sure he was expecting great things from it too but I'm not so sure he was able to achieve what he required from the system. The Haltech is great with a lot of cars but I'm not sure that the M35 is one of them, drop him a line and get his opinion on it.

Ask Boost Worx if they have used the haltech before on a VQ25DET and got it working properly......I doubt it! If they have you are welcome to buy mine from me at a good price. If they think it's like like the V35 or 350Z they are seriously mistaken though.

If I was to go for a piggyback knowing what I know now it would be the E-Manage. Other than that it's the reflash.....which cannot be to much longer......I F#$KING hope!!!!

There is one other option....but it's not cheap.
