Hey guys,

Bought a broken RB25DET for peanuts this week and started stripping it down last night. All looking good, coolant looks clean and no crud in the oil..... this morning I started removing all the exhaust manifold studs to take the manifold off.... 3 out of the 12 bolts snapped off inside the head, with hardly any torque applied, like I'd start turning very gently and the bolt would just shear off.

Now, sheared-off bolt inside head = bad, but how bad? Can it be drilled out? I'm not planning on putting a stock manifold back on this engine, so what are my options?

Thanks guys.

best bet is to call one of the mobile stud removal places, they come to you with all the tools and they don't cost all that much.

Thanks mate. Probably best wait till I've stripped the entire engine down, so if any more studs shear off, I can get them done too.

Cheers :-)

How I have got them out in the past:

- Easy out if inside the head still

- Small pair of multigrips if enough of the stud still there

- Weld on a small nut if you have access to a welder, just tac it on either side don't cut sick.

I find that gently tapping the stud into the head helps prior to removal as well. Stops the thread picking up inside.

Nissan must sell a few of these I reckon. I know I have bought 2x full sets over the years.
