This morning on my way to work the needle flick to the other side after I reved the rpm at around 4k or 5k, and it stays there, how weird.

I searched some pictures to show you what does it look like now。

can anyone tell me why it happened, what will this do to my car and what should I do now.

Thanks heaps.

Take the plastic face off and turn the needle counter clockwise back to zero.

Sometimes if the needle revs up quickly enough, or far enough past redline, it can't make it back to zero since gravity is giving the needle a hard time going back up, and holds it down on the opposite side.

If its resisting, DO NOT push it otherwise it will be out of sync (which is a pain in the ass to re-sync). It should rest on that pin just below 0, and with the ignition ON it should hold at 0 by itself.

Thanks mate for the advise and help! I'll do it tomorrow and will keep you updated

Just another question: Is this a normal thing to R33/skyline/any other cars?

Dunno what you mean by normal...

Its not common but its not exactly Christmas when it does.

sorry mate my English is not good.

What i was trying to ask is that has such thing happend on other cars? or like is it a common thing to happen on a 96 sports car?

Coz I'm abit worry that this will cause problem to the rpm sensor or related component and hence cause damage to the car。

Ah righto.

Its just as likely to happen on any car with a tacho.

Don't worry about damage, there's nothing wrong, this just sometimes occurs when the tacho climbs quickly and goes too far up...it can't cause damage in any way.

Thanks heaps mate, much appreciated.

By the way Cefiro was in my list when I was looking to buy a rear wheel drive car in NZ, but after coming to Australia it became almost impossible as there were not many around, but now I still love it, for it's shape and the fun driving it.

    • Hey guys, I have dipped my toes into the pool of skylines finally and figured I would get amongst the forums and make an introduction post! My name is Callum, I'm from the north side of Sydney, and I am now 6 months into owning my 1992 R32 GTS-T (already having half of that time off the road in true nissan fashion). It is originally an AH3 car but at some stage of its life it has been resprayed in and out in TH1 with (in the sellers words) extra purple, parked next to an actual TH1 car it is a fair bit lighter in colour. It has also had the original RB20 swapped out for an RB25DET NEO which I presume to be out of a Stagea going off the AWD sump that has been sealed up. I won't go super into detail with mods as I want to create a build thread post soon. Unfortunately the car seems to have had a hard life as many of these have being previously a cheap sub 10k car, and I have barely any history on it so if anyone happens to recognise the car or thinks they may have any history I would LOVE to hear it as I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to car history, the seller had it roughly since 2020 I believe and was from Parramatta area if that helps. Look forward to being a part of the community, I have been to 2 SAUNSW events already (one being in 2022 prior to ownership, and once more a few weekends ago) so you could say I am not brand new to it but can definitely be more involved via the forums! (side note: I am pretty new to forums and struggled to attach pictures of the car, is there an easier method than having to have the pictures on facebook and copying the link from there? would love to know for future reference cheers!)
    • I have GT2860R. I'm not sure if they are -5 or -7. Do you know? These are the exact ones.  https://www.enjukuracing.com/products/garrett-rb26dett-gruppe-n-turbo-upgrade.html?srsltid=AfmBOopSCzHaDtf7nggL6R8KrD8RJP4wxBJitmkRmswmv2SaEbAVcxTe And to be honest, i think the car was the most enjoyable to drive on the streets when it was 280hp (205kw). I could enjoy all the revs to redline i wouldn't be going crazy fast, but just fast enough to know that you are working the car.
    • If i used a cooling system pressure tester, would it show me a leak with the head gasket? Ive used one before to chase down a leaking coolant hose. Not sure if this will work on the oil-cooler warmer.
    • Hi all,   suspect this is a common problem. I think I missed 4th gear a bit when I shifted down from 5th. Now it grinds into 4th with the downshift. Is it the sychro and what do I need to replace when I open the gear box up?    added a photo of my new titanium intake I just installed and built. 👍💪
