ok i think alot of people would like to know the current state of importing in aus in 2004(not the 15yr rule), im talking about r33s, supras, soarers wateva, because a few people i know seem to believe that suddenly supra TTs 94-95 go for 6-7grand landed and complied which to me sounds like BS. i know they hav to be stock on complaince and the mods hav to be destroyed, i also know that no aus delivered vehilce can be imported, i also thought the importing of cars under 15 yrs old was stopped till the new scheme/new complaince plates/workshops were available, it just pisses me off when people say they can get 30K cars for 5-6K, even unda the old scheme they were not this cheap, otha then that does anyone know when importation of under 15yrs will begin, or are comp plates available for some of these cars already

I agree, compliance costs are currently about twice what they were 18 months ago, its between $4-6k + tyres. This would seem to hold up prices of cars already here.

But of course, cars in japan depreciate much quicker than local cars, so buying thru a broker would remain a relatively cheap option.

15 year old cars can be brought in but have to be MONTH OF DATE BUILD not YEAR OF BUILT. Some ppl were luck and bought ther 89 car before the old system was stoped and out of kindness the GOV have granted these cars to be imported most ppl will see there cars rolling off the boat in around 2 weeks when the next one is due. Luck bastards I wish I had the cash I would have my GTR by now.

I work for a broker. SVi. We have complaince on R33's at the moment and I have not heard of any ppl being able to get cars for 6-7K. I wish id have one.

I think the cars you can import come in 2 different standards.

You can get slightly cheaper r33's of similar condition than the ones already here, or you can get one that is in better condition for around the same price as you find here.

I was told that you can still get r33's for around 14-16k landed and complied (plus you gotta add your tyres, tax and other ORC), but still its cheaper the many of the ones you find in the papers

Lots of people like to speak shit about how they can get "this or that" for less than somebody else... and that is all it is.

I'd still like to bring in 1x or 2x 1989 cars before the end of the year if i can at all. No doubt the government will change things, but it would be nice.

I done the sums a few months ago and went looking for a nice Supra in Japan. The cheapest RZ I could find was going to cost about $24000 all up here registered. But if you are after a non turbo then thats a different story, you could get those for about $15000 if you looked hard enough....

Still looking for a nice aero top twin turbo.......

Guys, you always get what you pay for. IE you pay crap, you get crap. When I picked up a car at the wharf, there was this guy who got a 93 Supra TT really cheap (650,000 yen FOB). Infortuneately for him, the car is more than likely going to be rejected for Compliance as the chassis was warped from a big crash and bad repair, drivers door would not shut, turbos were VERY cooked (all piping was very badly melted) the list goes on and on. He, like many others, bought it thru a broker in Japan and was basically not told the problems... So, if you don't have a good person in Japan (Like myself or Mick at SVI) who can actually inspect the car thoroughly BEFORE the auction, you may be in for an expensive problem, and the car may still have to be exported or destroyed...

A decent 94 GTST will cost about 500,000 yen at auction plus auction fees and freight etc - then you have $4500 + tyres+GST for compliance, +$700 for rego etc, so you are quickly heading up to the $20 mark. Add insurance, a stereo, wheels and exhaust and you are near $25k.

So these guys who are saying they can get cars for 10k, they are not on this world - otherwise they are ripping you off. A decent R33 half cut still sells for $6000!!!

Hope these words from someone who has alreads experienced some of the darker sides of import cars has helped...

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
