Hi guys,

I have a '97 R33 GTR and yesterday while I was at the servo, I went to get in my car to leave and to my surprise, I pressed the unlock button on my remote and the doors stayed locked. I used they key and both doors unlocked so I know the central locking still works, just doing it with the remote doesnt. So I sat there for about 10 minutes continuously locking and unlocking my car (probably looked like a right knob while it was beeping away) and figured that the remote actuator in the drivers door was still working as I could hear it moving. So today I took the door skin off and had a look to try and figure it out.

So heres what Ive got:

Heres the actuator when the door is locked:

And heres what happens when I unlock it with the remote:

As you can see, the cable is slipping inside its rubber housing as it has torn meaning that the cable isnt pushing the locking mechanism. If I hold the cable like so:

Then it works fine.

So basically Im thinking I just need to figure out how to reclamp the cable properly and it should all work sweet again.

Any thoughts guys would be much appreciated.

Any recommendation then for a new setup and where might be good to buy in Adelaide? Would I be able to sort it out pretty easy myself or would it be better to get an auto elec to have a look?

Ok so ive solved my problem....for now at least.

heres what ive done:

basically i just stripped off some of the rubber tubing and squeezed the clamp onto the metal lining instead. probably not the best solution but it is at least working properly now

Very interesting. I must admit I do like the idea in the first photo of the rod being pulled in a place that doesn't put too much stress on it. The actuator itself looks like something more suited to being installed in the boot. Maybe that's what it is, is a boot actuator installed in the door. Other than that, yeah it does look like a bike brake cable. If it's now working, and doesn't give you anymore troubles, I don't see the need to replace it. It's been working for you so far, so now you know what went wrong and made an adjustment, keep on trucking as they say.
