if a R35 is out of the price range, about $150k, so we're talking about $100K and down? don't think there'll be any 911t's in the range unless they're old.

is an evo9 really an upgrade on a r34 GTR? I guess it depends on what OP is looking for. What about something like a 370z? Although the question still stands is it really an upgrade on the r34 GTR

All the cars mentioned, i think are great cars.

Starting with the EVO's - Good solid performer - Plenty available also.

Porsche would be awesome, but 911 is also out of reach unless its older

Love the idea of a light weight - like the elise - could see myself actually going to a track in something like that.

DSG GTI are unreal , really good car. I drove a 06 and was very impressed with the dsg.

Luxo Cruiser - i did see a 7 series Beema on car sales for high $30's 02' - 03' i think it was. Very cool car.

Old skool cruiser was my most current though..... plymouth belvedere convertible, cadillac eldorado convertible......50's shapes.

Massive change - but just not enjoying the gtr as much as when i 1st got it.

If it's a fun, not so practical car you're after...get an AC Cobra replica with a blown Windsor or a 427...ultimate weekend warrior and nothing gets looks like them. Convertible, V8 sound, economical, lightweight + trackable, timeless styling...

In the practical place an M3 is where it's at but put aside some cash for issues, these cars often have a hard life and a decade on things start to break.

I also like the idea of having an old school bruiser, but in reailty it would only be a monthly car for me. I've become quite accustomed to ergonomics, comfort and ease of use in cars :P what about an Elfin MS8 streamliner or older (dare I say it) corvette?

ah - just bite the bullet, sell your soul and get the Aston Marten DB9 or DBS :P

Yeah i was wondering what people though about , what you goto after a r34 gtr ?

Might be worth mentioning a r35 is well above my price range. sigh

A tough choice IMO... Cuz if I had a R34 GTR, I would not sell it.

I was going to say EVO / Silvia / RX7 FC + FD / STi.

I had a chat to Aaron from Import Monster over the weekend and we discussed about his STi vs his R34 GTR.

In his opinion, the R34 GTR is kinda like the 'grew up' version / brother to the STi.

Both 4WD / AWD, Turbo Charged, 2 doors etc... But the R34 GTR was an over all larger car, more top end, which I agree.

(Stock vs Stock) In the ADM at the moment, there is the EVO X / STi / 350Z / 370Z, but I still think the R34 GTR is winner, due to having larger engines to the EVO / STi and being Turbo over N/A to the 350Z / 370Z.

Depending on the market you want to go in I suppose...

Luxury / Performance I would have gone with BMW 335i / M3 / M5 then further up a Porches 911, but that seems out of your budget.

I would have also thought about Nissan V35 / V36, which are pretty much 350Z...

Performance family sedans = 4 door V35 / V36 / HSV / FPV.

Comes down to which market you want to go into / price range / characteristics of which car you prefer to have a change to IMO.

I am kinda particular tho... If I had to change, I would like a 240Z / 260Z / 280ZX or a KGPC10.

A nice JDM cruiser like a Toyota Chaser / Nissan V35 / V36 / El Grand / President.

Any S Chassis or an AE86.

Thought of this quite a bit myself.

I honestly don't think anything compares unitl you're prepared to spend enough and/or wait until 996 Turbos are within your range.

with a modified r34gtr, you've essentially reached the limit of mechanical stimulation available to anyone with a budget sub 100k.

if youre car is stock, throwing a little money at it, at the right things should re-ignite any lost infatuation.

but in the long run it may only leave you wanting more, and the point may come when you ask yourself if the money spent on mods along with the value of your r34, would be enough to get that r35 or new m3?

personally, id spend a little on mods for the gtr to bring back the spark and drive a cheap daily most of the time, then just like any junkie youll be itching for that gtr hit, which you can treat yourself to on any weekend.

Have you considered modern muscle cars, if your just looking for straight line performance and cruise potential. The newer Mustangs may be in your price range. 65-90k depending on spec.

Even a current model Corvette can be had for 90k with the 7.0L LS7 V8

I often discuss this with a couple of mates of what car we would choose for a "realistic" price that has a bit from every category and Japanese imports aside, for a true two door sports car around $100,000 that has good power, fantastic handling, great potential, luxury and class, the 335i to me would be my first choice.

    • HUMVEE are fine in big open areas, but they are problematic on the street and tight areas As for reliability, some of the  US Army guys I have chatted with have said that when they were working they were fine, but, the do spend alot of time in workshops for multiple reasons, admittedly, they did get a hard time by the boys and girls who drove them I would definitely put them in the "buyer beware" category  They do look tough as nails though 
    • Just don't use ChatGPT or any other artificial stupidity for the equivalent of googling. Their demonstrated inability to discriminate reality from hallucination should be enough to make them totally untrusted. LLMs don't know anything and cannot think to even the smallest extent. They are just predictors of the next word, and that should never be confused with capability.
    • I think, given the usage model described in the OP, I'd never ever experience the wonders of the 400kW upgrade. What I really need is boost from 2000rpm and probably no more than 260-270rwkW. But I suspect that the highflow is not actually the turbo for that purpose, so I may in fact need to get a G25 or 30 or something right sized and very spooly. We shall see after it is tuned. I've had to back the boost and boost ramp off to stop the thing from pinging since the highflow went on, so I've been almost living the NA life for 9 months now! Injectors are recently in hand. AFM is in hand. Dyno is fixed. Just need to clear a queue of f**king Supras out of the way (and probably fit my new gearbox). So....some time this year? Lol.
    • For what I gather is a Sunday/summer car....braided is fine. You're not going to be left without a vehicle and you have plenty of time for inspection/maintenance. Oof. I wouldn't use them that way. They can probably handle the temperature** but the internal corrugations means that their flow characteristics are a bit shit. Lots of extra friction and pressure loss. Makes them flow like the next pipe size down. ** They are stainless, and the stainless can usually be at least something like 304L, which is pretty good at higher temperatures (unlike 316L, which I would use for a wrt/corrosive environment, but not a particularly hot environment). But the welding needs to be top notch. And even then, because you usually need at least one cone-seat end on them (because you can twist the hose and do up both ends at the same time unless one of them is a union) they can be prone to coming loose with heat cycles.
