Ericjayrol
Hey, I know it seems like I post a lot of pretty basic questions up, but I wasnt a car enthusiast all my life and I missed out on a lot of beginners stuff that most people already know, and I think its better to ask stupid questions than continue on assumed knowledge or no knowledge. Anyway, Ive attached some photos of stickers and parts on my car that I don't know what they are or what they mean, any information would be helpful. Nic_A31
1: (red/white) is the tyre placard showing what the tyre pressure should be in KPA Weird...this should have been removed and replaced with an English sticker/plate during compliance. 2 + 5: (ENEOS) These look like "next service due at" stickers. AT = Auto Transmission CV = CV Joint etc 3 + 4 Where are they ? They look like amps or something 6: (Green/Black) Air con information (probably from the last air con service / last time air con was regassed) 7: (Black/White) Emmissions information ? Ericjayrol
3 and 4 are both from Mitsubishi, which confuses me a lot being in a Skyline Its mounted just to the right of the had unit under the steering wheel, to the left of where your leg is sitting toward the clutch. It has a card slot and the little diagram is directions on how to insert the card. The theories ive heard about it are that it is a tuner shop details card (but the car is stock), its a credit card swiper (and it might have been a taxi in japan) or that its like one of those cars that can be rented and they have cards to start and time your use. Im not really sure what it is, but its weird to me that it has mitsubishi written on it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5223245 Share on other sites
Nic_A31
Nah contrary to popular beleif they were never used as taxi's. Wouldn't be for a tuner / workshop. Possibly a rental car... Alot of stuff on Nissans has the Mitsi logo. On both my Ceffies the Crank Angle Sensor, some other little electrical stuff and bits of the air con have that logo. Is there any wiring going into those card machines ? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5223435 Share on other sites
Nic_A31
Lazy me, didnt look at the pics again...there is wiring...do youhave nay idea where they go ? I just googled Mitsubishi ETC and got this http://www.mhi.co.jp/en/products/detail/el...ion_system.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5223441 Share on other sites
jrm
Yeah - japanese toll system card. Lots of cars have these in-built I believe. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5223456 Share on other sites
Ericjayrol
oh wow, thats pretty cool... not as compact as our E-Tag system, but it does have a more James Bond feel to it doesn't it? Thanks for all the help Nic, and thanks jrm for the confirmation. Nic_A31
Japan is 10 years ahead of us in technology. In 2000, the ETC in your Skyline would have been the bee's knee's start of the art niftiest shit ever. A decade later "ours" might be smaller than that, but Japan would have even smaller, faster and smarter ones by now haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5223623 Share on other sites
Ericjayrol
Your probably right about that... But do you think they eliminated the card system? I mean, considering its a card, it does have a limit to how small it can be. Nic_A31
Take a look at that link I posted...they had a thing that just sat on the dash and scanned in by itself, back then...by now they'd have plate recognition or built into dash that you can't even see. mad082
also they car was probably made big so that it was easy to remove or install if you bought a new car, or if it was something that needed to be replaced often. imagine if your credit card was the size of a sim card. it would be a pain if you had to try and swipe it through a machine everytime you bought something. blind_elk
3 and 4 are both from Mitsubishi, which confuses me a lot being in a Skyline Probably because it's made by Mitsubishi Electric, as distinct from Mitsubishi Motors.(There are numerous "Mitsubishi" companies in Japan, from when the original Mitsubishi conglomerate was broken up by the US following WWII. They all use the three diamonds logo - Mitsubishi literally means "3 diamonds") Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/319899-what-do-these-mean/#findComment-5225082 Share on other sites
