Always been a favourite class of racing but sadly doesnt get much coverage at home

Last year was lucky enough to catch some of the Spa 24hr when I was in Belgium. The cars look great, sound great and the racing in the sprint races is interesting. The endurance racing is something different to the local tin tops so interesting in another way.

We are two rounds down this year. Sacked Renault F1 driver Romain Grosjean is showing he probably deserved more time in F1 and is currently equal first in the standings after winning in Abu Dhabi, and with the Astons disqualified at Silverstone Nissan have racked themselves up a win.

So hopedully the Vettes can keep the pace with the Aston Martin DB9s, Ford GTs, Maserati MC 12s, Lamborghini Murciélagos and Nissan GT-Rs. Its great for the races where the GT3 class mix it up with the GT1 cars too

There was talk that the JGTCC were going to bring their GT500 class in line with GT1 to open up their series to foreign teams and make their teams eligible for OS races. But sadly it seems the Japanese still seem content to keep their premiere series a purely domestic series

It's a good series, and the cars are fantastic. There's nothing like the sound of the 'Vette in person, the exhaust note rumbles straight through your chest!

More interesting to watch than F1 for me, at least there's some overtaking :P The field wasn't massive for Abu Dhabi, but I've recorded Silverstone and it looks to be a pretty impressive mix.

Slightly different - but they had the LeMans Series Spa 1000 on Fox yesterday. Bordais put the Peugot on pole with a 1.57 something lap - makes our 2.55 in the Caterham look rather unspectacular hey Bris!

Funny to watch though - a bunch of them crashed out on the formation lap which was highly amuzing! And then Bordais 2nd driver punted it off on corner 1. Bet he was spewin he didn't start the race afterall....

Still - watching that made me want to go back there for sure. In something with a roof next time though!

Roofs slow you down! Was watching web feeds on the weekend re Spa. I see for EUD4000 you can get a seat in the 24hour race at Spa. Shame i dont have an FIA licence. Would be fun. Think I am a reasonable chance to go camping at Spa this year for the GT1 race. A pommie mate is moving back to France in May so have a willing body to drink piss with :)

At least OneHD will televise the LM24hr. There are a few GT1's in the event.I was there in 2004 when Brabham was running around in a V10 LMP1. That is a must see event.

Do GT1 have a round in Malaysia or the likes? That would be a weekend trip for Aussies!

On the subject of GT1, there is interest for the series to come to Australia with EC showing interest but nothing coming of the bid. The other dark horse to hold a GT1 race is 'Hampton Downs' in North Island, NZ. Most people would know about this track with the Bruce McClaren Festival held there earlier this year. Quite a impressive track.

    • Fuse taps are perfectly fine to use, especially when you're adding stuff for your own car, and so long as you're being smart about it. IE, don't throw a 30amp circuit, onto a circuit that is only a small circuit. It's best to add a small circuit, to one that is already quite large. Oh, and make sure you're not going to blow the fuses that are further upstream too! I dislike their use in other applications, such as alarms, telematics/tracking devices etc, as it's far too easy for someone to unplug them and render a system useless. Those sorts of devices I go for wiring in quite secretively.

    • Given it is temporary, I bought a  cheapy gauge mount (which has become enflattened) which I will screw into the existing phone mount Also a first for me; given this is a temporary install I could not think of any reason not to use one of those "add a fuse" thingies to source the battery and IGN power. I had always figured they were pretty dodgy but having a good look at them I think they are a valid option for sourcing power from an existing source without cutting
