ey guys,

i just recieved dan666's 6000k HID replacement globes for the oem r34 xenon headlights.

attempted to open the big circle thing with fins to get access to the globe but i was stumped at a special bolt preventing me from turning the circle cover.

i opened up a friends r34 gtt and i didnt have any issues.

it seems to be a star/flower bolt with a centre block, anyone come across this?

EDIT:: just spoke to the guys at just tools and it seems to be cold a "torx". they dont really sell indivisual heads and a set costs $50 T_T

It's a tamper resistant TORX screw, or a "Torx TR", most hardware shops should sell screwdrivers or socket bits to suit. Regular Torx screwdrivers don't have a hole in the middle, so make sure you get the tamper resistant variety.

edit:

you want one of the top row of this:

its $40something from kinchrome, or you can get the cheaper variety from bunnings for $10 usually.

I've always loved the fact that tools for undoing tamper resistant screws are so readily available and cheap :P

    • I thought about ditching it but I was worried my bonnet would sound like a 90's Swift GTi sub-filled boot.
    • Have you found that you have to tighten your alternator belt once in a while? Mine has started to squeal again after the mechanic tightened it roughly a year ago and the engine starts up slow if I don't start it every day (think the starter motor is going out). It used to be if I don't drive it once a week I'd get a quick squeal on the belt but now it's every day or every other day. I might make a post of the start up sound.
    • I spent the entire of the long weekend going through my garage and I'm now, after 3.5yrs in this house, able to fit a car in. The garage is quite long and the back half has a high enough ceiling for a 2 post lift but it's going to just take too much space and I don't think I'd be able to get around the car if it was in the air. So, in comes the quick lift. It looks perfect. High enough to do most things, I reckon even getting a gearbox out would be doable.  Does anybody here have one? They're fairly cheap (~$3k) considering...  https://www.dtmtrading.com.au/product/quick-lift-portable-vehicle-hoist-3500-kg-worksafe-approved/ I'm also a bit of a non risk taker so I'd probably still use stands when under!
    • Well now we all see it! I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.
    • I just replaced the god awful, sagging, crunchy bonnet insulation. It's something nobody but I see but it's been at me for a while.
