Hi, Im Jake, im 19.

Recently i purchased this bad boy.

09052010.jpg

Its a 1987 Nissan Skyline HR31 GTS-X.

It has 126,000kms on the clock, and im stoked!

Runs a Redtop ECCS Rb20det, with a couple goodies, including a HKS 2510 turbo, GTR Intercooler, Malpassi Fuel Regulator, Fuel Cut Defender, BOV (needs removing), 3" Kakimoto Exhaust, Oil Catch Can, RB25det rocker covers, and a pod filter.

Suspension wise, it's got Pedders lowered springs, Pedders Shocks, and adjustable castor rods.

Rims are a set of 17x9 Stich Meshies for the front, and rears are the same, but in 9.5.

Paint is a custom pearlescent black. Basically, it's a 2009 Hilux black, with silver taken out..and a bit of sparkle/blue is added, looks pretty nice in the sunlight.

Exterior consists of a GTS-R spoiler and a modified GTR front lip.

Interior contains a CD player, Autometer Boost Gauge, and a Personal steering wheel.

Like every kid out there..i want this thing to have a rb26dett, full straight cut gearbox..yada yada yada, but no.

For the time being, im planning to get a NIStune, some decent spark plugs, Yellow Jacket Coilpacks, Coilovers, and a proper tune. Nothing over the top, but something that i can manage to keep me, my bank account, the parents, and the police happy.

Very nice :) Im running the redtop eccs motor in my oz spec r31 with a r33 sr1 turbo but looking at going hks 25/30 very soon. If your looking at getting your butterflys removed boostworxs will remove them for around $60 if you take the plate in.

Id put a set of redtop rocker covers back on :3some:

Cheers guys,

Didn't know many people still liked 2 door R31's!

Car currently does have some small things that need fixing.. seems to have a small flatspot at 3000rpm, but only in third gear..wether that is spark plugs, coilpacks, or something else, i plan on getting on to it.

Also, has a bit of detonation at 5000rpm. Again, it'll need a proper tune, this is where the NIStune will be coming in handy.

I'll most likely be giving Decs at Garage 7 in Adelaide the reigns of her, he's a good mate, and specialises in R31's, so i have no doubts about his abilities.

Being an apprentice diesel mechanic myself has it's benefits, a pit, quality oils, scanners and trade discounts at my disposal, i plan on making this thing run well..might enter a car show here and there, also, plenty of Track Days! My old automatic r31 loved it last year around Mallala, so this thing should do the same!

This was going to be my daily whilst the R32 went stoopid impractical but still slow spec :) Agree, a neat R31 coupe is a cool daily driver. Wish that prick never tee boned mine all those years ago, I would still have it! Only grabbed my current R32 because it was neat and and i couldnt find another neat R31 back in 99. Fark that was a long time ago :D

whats with the TRD wheel :P

NOT YOU TOO!

Everyone notices it!

I'm not exactly too sure why it's there. Probably going to get my Momo Typ 35 steering wheel re-trimmed, and a momo horn button fitted soon, so it really isn't annoying me.

Also, tonight after work i fit up a new set of spark plugs. NGK Iriduim IX's. The older plugs that were in there (Bosch Platinum's) weren't that bad looking, had the usual burn marks on the tips. The Bosch one's also had quite fat tips underneath the metal barb covering it, whilst these NGK's have almost a pin needle with end to them..can anyone tell me why? It seems to have fixed the flatspot i had also..strange things.

Ordered a NIStune today from Garage 7, and should be installed next Monday afternoon. Fuel cut defender will be taken out, because apparently it is useless, and just tricks the AFM and ECU into doing different things. Tune and Dyno time will be done shortly after.

I'm unsure what power it will make. I'm hoping 16-17psi daily. When i told Decs, that the former owner said it make 217kw on 18psi, all i got was laughter..i too have my doubts about this.

I'd like 180-190kw, on a pretty reliable tune, nothing silly, but enough to keep me occupied.

I'll keep ya posted.

Jake.

Small update.

Got Garage 7 to install the NIStune Type 1 liveboard this evening, tune should hopefully be done within 2 weeks, on a hub pack dyno, mainly for the accuracy of these units. Fuel Cut Defender was removed also.

Will also be doing the Garage 7 AU Falcon Coilpack Conversion.

Cheaper, and something different.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got the car back today from Garage 7, and im extremely happy. Although Decs couldn't get it on the dyno today because of a small issue with another car at the dyno place, it should be done Monday.

I got the AU falcon coilpack setup done, aswell as a Bosch 040 fuel pump.

Decs has been fiddling with the ignition and fuel maps, and explained and showed me on the laptop, what it is doing, which im happy with..any excuse to get to know what my car is doing! There is no hesitation before the turbo hits boost like there was, and it just seems to run alot smoother than it did.

Bring on Monday's dyno time! Im not exactly too sure on what to expect power wise. I've been told 190kw, others 170kw..so i really am not too sure. Guess it depends what the injectors and AFM like.

    • I should note too as I have all 4 wheel speed inputs to the emtron I now have the emtron controlling the attessa solenoid for 4wd/traction and launch control strategies.
    • It works quite well with the adjustibility within each of the programs of the turbolamik. Essentially p1 is drive and lockup comes on like a normal driver.  But in program 7 I have customised it to not request the lockup clutch to engage until something like 6500/7 when slip was the lowest.
    • Yep, I like that. The tags are only on the first post of a thread and we don't get huge numbers of new threads. Also, I plan to add some more report types and we could have a member report type like 'review tags' then members could flag if they thought a topic wasn't tagged correctly.  No way man, I dig the input. Thanks!
    • It's a valid thought. There's not exactly that functionality already (when creating a thread) - that's where the OP can use/create any tag they want. We'd have to come up with a way for the user to request their tags get reviewed or something. Otherwise the mods would have to review every new post's tags (for those that have them, anyway). There's kind of that functionality already exists to some extent, post facto of starting the thread, where the OP or any other user could report the post to admins, and request that tags get reviewed. We could do this already, and any user could already have made such a request. To make it a part of the forum proper, it would require an initial and an ongoing education programme, so that people know that it's a thing. OP based tagging/request for review would also require at least some (probably most) of the user base to be told that it's a thing they can do. Both of these things probably wouldn't spread too far and/or get used very much. If it was the standard approach on a lot of different sites, then it might do, because people would be used to it. Prank's approach to this differs from my original thought, by leaning into tagging. Which is fine - it's possibly better than what I originally suggested. In fact, I just went to the R32 GTR wiring diagram thread and added tags, including "Library". That's probably a good way to use tags and the idea of a library. We just have to drag together an (organised!) index of threads or posts that have that tag. I have yet to do any of my own follow up by pursuing worthy threads and posts and reporting/marking/tagging them for the library, such as the @Sydneykid stuff I was talking about, and possibly any amount of @Lithium 's and others' posts. At least if I tag them Library, we'll have a start.   Back to @Wazmond's idea as it relates to @PranK's, we might have some sort of a list of tags that are already used to scrape for this library. I'm not entirely sure how that would be presented or used, particularly if it got long. But it's yet another idea!   cheers
    • Just a thought, but instead of restricting, is it possible to do like an "up for review" kind of thing? Where say someone who's not an admin/mod tags, it would require approval for it to actually tag? User posts with a 'tag' > Admin/Mod Reviews > Approves tag > Tag now exists kinda thing? Just came across this thread so Im not too sure if Im straying off topic or not but forgive me if i am...
