Hi guys

just wondering how hard it would be to rego my car in S.A.? Had some SA interest for the car and they were thinking the rego process would be a nightmare given the car (see sig)

To be honest, i would have thought it wouldn't be too much of an issue. I don't have crazy spoilers, stupid ride height, high mount turbo etc. Turbo is low mount highflow, so looks stock, still running stock airbox. Body kit is factory looking. Exhaust is quiet. Surely it would be ok?

just trying to see what the situation is like in S.A. when it comes to rego'ing a modified car.

cheers,

daniel

Nope, forget it. Their fears are well founded. The car WILL have to go to Regency Park for an ID check, and they have a very good look over it while it is there. They may get lucky and get an inspector that either doesn't look hard or know what to look for, but chances are as soon as they see it is a Skyline, they will send over their specialist import officer and after that the car would basically need to be returned to stock to get it through.

I wouldn't be buying an interstate modified car, that is for sure.

There is a way without having to go through the ID check... make sure the owner registers the car under their name in your home state, bring it back to SA then all that is needed is a change of address form :P

I reckon it could pass actually, remove all the obvious mods (boost controller etc) get it looking stock as much as possible lol.

The ride height will probably still be an issue, they can see just by looking at the car it's fairly low

I've brought a car from interstate over to SA, they checked the ID & and had a general look around the car. (they only told me to repair a cracked brake light) but that's it.

Not sure why people are saying you need a Regency check for this :3some:

I've bought two cars from interstate and my brother's bought one. Cars were Subaru Outback, R32 GTR and GTti. The GTR and the GTti were both seriously modified but all three cars only required a police check of the VIN and engine number then were regoed no worries.

I wouldn't think it would be to hard to get SA rego, may have to take the tint off and raise the car up a little though. As long as it looks clean and presentable there not going to be to fussed as its only an ID check after all.

i don't reckon it would be an issue. just get it inspected at one of the other branches ie- lonsdale.

when my stagea was inspected a month ago they queried the child seat anchor bolts - but stated

"it isn't really an issue becasue it's not a compliance or roadworthy inspection"

dude was fairly cool about. as long as all the numbers match and it looks pretty much stock it should be alright.

I don't think it would be too hard. Had plenty of mates with modified cars bought in from interstate go through just fine and didn't get sent for a full Regency inspection.

You might get lucky, you might not. When I transferred my V35 from NSW to SA rego 8 months ago he had a very good look at the car, and if there was anything remotely unroadworthy he told me he would have sent me a for a full inspection.

So still, my point is that I wouldn't buy an interstate modified car, as if you did get pulled up for a full inspection the turbo would have to come off and all sorts of other issues would need to be addressed. Others may be willing to take the risk, I am not. All I am saying.

It's an ID inspection. I can't see there being too much of an issue with it, as long as the car looks high and standard. We've had ID inspections done on much crazier cars without an issue at all.

it's not that hard at all if you are sensible. I have sent modified cars to SA. and done the reverse too (had a car complied there then sent to nsw) there are lots of heavily modified cars there. 90% of the mods on your car are not visible mods either. nice stealth low mount turbo, cooler than uses mostly factory piping, stuff like nistune, injectors, fuel pump all impossible to tell really. all your suspension gear is legal too and also subtle, body kit is also quite restrained. my one piece of advice would be to make sure the car is 'roadworthy' ie. don't give them any excuse to look at it too closely. make sure the tyres have plenty of good tread on them and no uneven wear or damage, make sure all turn signals and brake lights work properly etc all the basic safety oriented roadworthy type things. don't give them a reason to look into it and they happily won't. it would take a genius inspector to pick a nistune, injectors and a low mount turbo. plus the car is so neat and clean most of the guys are sensible and know a decent car when they see one.

I really don't think it's an issue.

i honestly cant see it being a problem either. bought my gtr from vic a few weeks ago and the id inspection was smooth as, the guy looked over the car for about 5 mins, didnt even walk round the back to check the exhaust, said nothing about the xenons. didnt even notice the flair stashed in the passenger foot well.

You can do your I'd inspection at a cop shop like sturt police station which isn't as bad as vis at regency.

Hide the boost controller and noticable illegal mods and you'll be fine. Otherwise they can send you for a full inspection.

It's not hard and deffently not scary.

Sturt police station no longer do ID checks, Just last week I had to take a 2010 Jeep Patriot to Lonsdale to get an ID check. They checked my window tint and where nearly going to put it up on the hoist to have a look underneath. The guy next to me had a fairly new lexus which only had tinted window, they did him for the tint and as i was leaving they where making him go on to the hoist. I wouldn't like to take a modded car through. My Stagea went through there for defect clearance not long ago and past no worries but i did take it back to standard apart from the cooler.

I took my 34 for the ID check a few months ago, my third skyline through the ID check process. I gave it the stock treatment before I went in to be on the safe side. Stock rims, stock ride height and stock air box. The only obvious mod i had was the exhaust. They were fairly cruisy and friendly. Although the guy took ages to do the check. They didnt hassle me about my factory UV glass or Xenon lights. On the form they fill in there is a check box thats can be ticked that states the car shoud go for ' futher investigation,' if its obviously modded. There is also a poster up on the wall in the waiting room with a picture of a BOV and 'defect' stamps all over it. I get the feeling that if it looks clean then youll be okay. Send us a pm if you need to borrow stock struts or rims.

Cheers

wow! thanks for all the replies everyone!

height is adjustable so that's an easy one. So is boost controller in cabin. Car doesn't have anything but factory UV cut glass. Still have standard shocks/springs anyway.

and don't worry about the 'clean' department. Just about finished detailing it... maybe i can just wow the inspector due to it's chrome like finish

considering i dismantled half the interior just to vacuum bits that you'll never see is perhaps a bit OCD, but i guarantee it will present extremely well :(

thanks again everyone, it does seem like luck plays a part but judging from the responses, on the whole it doesn't seem to be too bad :)
