Approx Value Of A 34 Gtr

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm doing some research in prep for finding and buying a 34 GTR.

I've had a look around a few places, both aus dealers and japan, at prices and specs and i'm having trouble getting an idea of a reasonable price.

So far it seems to be something like

standard gtr high 30's low 40's

V-spec low 40's to mid 60's

V-spec II and up 70's and up

Now balancing bang for buck it looks like the vspec is the way to go. Now i saw a non-vspec here and the seller quoted 46ish but might go as low as 42 (eh!) and this had 60k on the clock and rashed rims.

now i keep seeing vspecs on places like j-spec for the same money give or take a little, but i cant gauge quality too easily.

So can anyone in the import business give me an idea of a reasonable price for a vspec in reasonable condition (km's and wear) and let me know how much colour can sway the price.

I'm not looking to hold anyone to a price down the track, i just want to make sure i get the money i need together and then be able to ask one of you to find me the right car down the road and not ask you for impossible to find bargains.

and just as an aside for those of you who have owned them, are the vspec(II)'s and up worth the extra coin or is it worth making a saving and skipping them?

I've been keeping an eye on the market as well. The price you have are realistic but V-spec II has come down in price since a couple of months ago or even longer. You should be able to get them for less than 70k. Anything more than 70k will have to be a NUR or N1 (or maybe a standard M-spec).

V-spec however is a bit hard to gauge because most people get these and for modding. A good 1 can range from 50k to 65k easily depending on the work done to it.

Personally I would get a worked V-spec or a NUR/N1 because it'll save me time and money in modding myself. Just my two cents worth.

i dont get how this is question is asked so often if u want the prices check car sales or trade car view .com

well if you read it you'll see i have looked around and compared prices.

I'm primarily asking those who import them for a job what they have found to be a reasonable price for a reasonable quality car.

I'm not asking what prices they are up for auction for.. as i can see that myself, but i cant see if that car is worth that price or what price it might go for in the end.

they are the prices for the 'cheap' cars. the good one are still about $10K up on the 'low' prices you quoted except for your VII price which is about right at $70K. obviously Nur etc will fetch a bit more and it varies a lot depending on condition, km and spec. my only advice is buy a good one. if you can only afford one now cause they are in the 40s think twice about buying one. they cost a lot to keep in peak condition and even more to modify and if you are buying at the lower end of the market chances are yours will need some work in the near future. don't forget they are 10 years old now. most with genuine kms should be around 80,000-100,000kms which is a lot for a performance car IF it's not been looked after. if it's treated well there's no problem but that can be hard to gauge once a car has been through a few owners and most have by now.

I reckon right now a budget of $55-$60K will get a really nice GTR. either pristine low km model of your colour choice, or a well looked after 1 or 2 owner modified example. anything less and you are buying from the bottom-ish end of the market. never a good idea for prestige or performance cars.

Colour wise from the auctions, black will always fetch a premium. Always, as long as the other attributes of the car are ideal, such as higher grade, lower kms, etc.

Actually, lets put it this way. If you have a lineup of cars that are similar in kms and condition, black and bayside blue will always fetch more while white will fetch the least. All the other colours will be mixed in between.

Baron, I've been told by a long time importing friend that black 34 GTR's bring a real premium at auction in Japland, he says up to 50%! Is there any truth in that?

I searched hard to find my black beaty, mainly because although I think Bayside blue is a ripper colour, it actually "ages" the car a little. Black never goes out of fashion.

noooooooooooooooo marlin - you're getting mixed up with WHITE!!!!!

well - i'm obviously not as seasoned as baron, however... i can honestly say black cars do tend to fetch a premium... it's not that they "fetch a premium" it's just supply and demand... like with all auctions really

for example... currently as we speak i'm searching for a 97-99 vvti single turbo Soarer, being that these cars are now considered older cars, nobody in japan wants them... and australia has the stigma that soarers are smelly old uninteresting twin turbos... which is why i want a special one... because this way i can get a car that surpasses many newer imports... but because there's lack of interest from japanese and australian bidders,i figure i can get one at a steal, right?

with the soarer for instance - there's only really a handfull that come through auction, because most have been sold overseas OR most people just hold onto them... and of that handfull... nobody seems to pick them up or bid for them, so that handfull keeps coming back thru auction...

it's frustrating for me as a buyer wading thru all the poo mobiles.. but that's neither here nor there...

point i'm making is - a few months ago there was a black soarer... Lpackage, sunroof, gps, tv, woodgrain, black interior, gold 18" BBS LM (or work VSxx, couldn't see from auction pics) and i was like "oh wow i'll def bid on that - i bid 500K cos nobody wants soarers LOL"

...that soarer went for 800K... which in retrospect, isn't THAT much money... but 800K for a black soarer, when the white / silver ones won't even get bid on in the first place... this displays the gulf difference between a colour that "people want" and a colour that isn't popular

the less popular colours go for obviously a lower price - it's for this reason that a good 80-90% of soarers in australian car sales yards showing 40,000km are "forrest green" - becuase they're cheap. you never see black, red, sapphire, or any of the "rarer" colours in dealer lots!

same premise applies here for GTR

EDIT: that black soarer was a manual too...

so to clarify..

it was black - great condition..

gold BBS LM 18"

modestly lowered

manual with torsen LSD

satnav / GPS (uselss in aus but still cool)

woodgrain dash (factory, not tacky stick on)

1999 built single turbo VVTI 2.5 ltr

immaculate interior

114 km genuine km with service history...

...since then NOTHING decent has come across... wish i got that one...

yeah mate, black and midnight purple are the 'money colours' in 34 GTR. not 50% premium but there definitely is a premium for those colours. mainly due to lack of supply. The more common the colour generally the less desirable. bayside blue is a bit of an exception, there is heaps of them but they are still sought after.

yeah bayside is not my favourite 34 colour. actually the silver/grey is my favourite. I'd take black over blue too and you are right the blue does date the car a bit as a late 90s auto-mobile.

still had to beat gun metal grey on a 32 though... :D

and eps, you should have bid more on that black manual turbo soarer. best combo there is available and will always command a premium over others. I know of one nice black, manual single turbo one in aus though. belongs (or belonged) to kip wightman (nova radio 'personality'). I bought my old UZZ32 Active off him and he replaced it with a beautiful black late model, manual. if you ever come across it, buy it!

shut UP baron!!!!

I KNOW I SHOULD"VE BID MORE FOR IT!!!! *cries*

haha

i have recurring stress dreams from letting it go... mind you this was literally the second day i had started even STARTING to study auctions - if i had any idea how much it was worth i would've thrown my hate in the ring for it

my situation is as follows (sorry to derail subject)

before i paid my service fee to commit my agent - SO MANY creamy delicious soarers coming through, single turbo, Lpackages, all colours, nice rims already etc etc, not high km... then the MINUTE i paid my service fee.. that black one i described came up - i had no idea how much to bid for it so i bidded modestly... and lost out... the broker in question and myself both agreed that it's "not to worry that's just ONE CAR... not to worry, there's PLENTY more fish in the sea!!! soarers come up like this ALL THE TIME .. right? wrong. that was going back two months ago...

there WAS heaps of desirable JZZ30's coming through... since that black one went through two months back... there has been ONE... that's right... ONE JZZ30 that went through that took my fancy...

was a 2000 final build white GT-T Lpackage.. was ready to go the big day came to place my bid AAAAAAAAAAAND turns out no RAWS workshops have the evidence package for the 2000 soarer GT-T latest i can attain is 1999... so that one fell through also... since then i keep checking and nothing's come up - subsequently the 2000 built soarer was purchased by a dealer

so - i'm getting a few cars from japanese dealers checked out.. dunno if anything will come of it though cos i doubt these dealers will sell to gaijin!

btw - the white 2000 can be found at this link here click it if you want

and trust me - i've been looking for soarers for MONTHS... like literally MONTHS AND MONTHS now... i was told repeatedly "buy in austrlaia"

the only VVTI turbos in aus are selling for anywhere between 14K - 20K that's BEFORE transit to WA... and are in very poor condition IMO

A yard I worked at several years ago imported an absolute glamour of a Soarer.

Black 98 model, VVT single turbo manual, factory roof, cloth, elecy seats. And simply mint and totally stock. Genuine 40k car.

We struggled to sell that car (this in 2002 mind you!) for 28k. Sat on the lot for nearly a year I think. To think it was only 8k dearer than a green 1992 twin turbo auto..... madnessssssss

    • Are these the Dmax ones you are in reference too? https://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35#description Not a bad idea to get the uni flange ones. I have sent just jap an email too. Will see what they say lmao. Only thing is the Dmax ones are on a big back order. Low key anything will be better then my OEM ones I got as they are sounding like popcorn when I go under load lmao 😂☠️🪦.
    • They should do. I have S14 (or something S chassis, anyway) driveshafts in my R32 (because my diff flanges have 3x2). They're the right length. When you go looking for R32/3/4 driveshafts (for turbos), they're all the same thing, so are the same length. So there really shouldn't be any reason why those cheapies from JJ won't also fit an R34. R32/3 NA should also be the same thing. The (3x the price) D-Max ones are uni-fit. They have 5x1 and 3x2 bolt holes and say they cover all the cars. So that would also suggest that they are all the same except for the flanges. And in that case, the flange goes both ways. I'd be buying the D-Max ones if I ever have to replace a shaft. Because that will open up diff options without needing to juggle shafts also. Juggling shafts is gay.
    • Yeah with the adaptors they do look like the photo above - just the fitment within the plenum itself and then further with the rail to the intake is questionable - we shall see tomorrow hopefully once I get some replies from Aeroflow, maybe those bosses are the missing piece....
    • Should be fine, if you have it sitting too far in, you end up just spraying the walls and have shit idle. You "can" run them like that, however I don't think it's a great idea (also depends on your plenum, might be good to just get the injector bosses first, mock it up and see if you need to get the bottom extension) Ideally your injectors, with the extension should look like this  (Not my photos, just Google)
    • Thanks for the replies guys, it's really appreciated.  It seems the kit was supposed to come with those injector bosses but hasn't. Unsure if they'll help as even with the adaptors to make them a 3/4 height injector they still sit too far out so mount the fuel rail?
