As the title says

I need a tuner in the gold coast area to tune the AFCneo i have just purchased and also do i need wideband 02 sensor and controller or just the sensor? (sorry if thats a dumb question, i dont know much about this)

I dont wanna hear about how i should have spent my money on a stand alone ECU. This will come later (in the form of a haltech :3some: )

This is a temporary solution to sort out the excessive fuel consumption and inconsistent performance of my daily driver.

Cheers! in advance for any advice!

you need someone who knows how to tune the AFC neo (or you can try it yourself)

you need a dyno to simulate load

you need a wideband sensor and a wideband sensor reader/controller/guage

if you have all of those a tuner can do it for you or you can do it yourself

you need the wideband sensor which goes up the exhaust (at muffler is OK) and then a unit to display the AF/R from the sensor

ie you cant plug the sensor into nothing or the stock ecu or the AFC, it needs to go into a wideband controller/AFR guage (not a $50 autobarn one)

the wideband sensor and reader/controller thingy should set you back around $300 if you have to buy it, so best to find a tuner who has one

Ok excellent, Thanks for that info.

So let me get this straight, I only need a wideband kit if I am tuning myself or the tuner doesn't have one?, in which case I wouldn't go to that tuner as you would expect a good tuner to have all that anyway.

I don't really believe in playing with my cars tuning without the proper training/experience so I will be using an experienced tuner anyway, probably someone like Matty Spry, EFI or Gavin Wood.

i know you didn't want people to say this, but you should've gone with something like a nistune. it would've cost roughly the same as what you will end up paying to buy the AFC and get it tuned but give you better results. plenty of places will do it drive in, drive out for under $1000.

Are you serious?

Becasuse you have no idea what my future mods entail. Why spend $800+ on a nistune now only to hav to do it all again when I finish my upgrades?

Now i've wasted 10 minutes of my day having to justify why I dont want to hear opinions about 'how wrong it is to use an SAFC'.

each to their own 'eh.

And i'll have you know I scored the neo for $300 of a mate. I will be able to recoup most if not all of that down the track...

because down the track you can simply go and get the nistune retuned for a few hundred dollars. so the afc cost you $300, and lets say another $200 or $300 to get it tuned. so about $600. then down the track you sell it for $300 again (they aren't worth much these days) and then pay $1500 for something like a pfc and then another $300 or $400 for a tune. you are out of pocket a total of around $2500. if you had gone the nistune from the start you may pay an extra $100 or $200 to start with, but then when you upgrade the turbo, etc, it will only cost you another few hundred to get the tune altered, so all up you'd come out about $1000 better off.

also the initial tune would get you better power from the nistune. with the AFC you may start to get the engine pinging before you get to the optimum AFRs, because it is simply bending the signal from the afm, which will alter the timing as well as the AFRs both at the same time. you can't seperatly control them.

Why is it that you 'nistune' people have to hi-jack everyone's topics and crap on with your rlentless speel about how superior nistune is.

I DO NOT WANT TO USE NISTUNE! :P

I am sick of myself having to justify my reasons for this.

This is why i said at the start 'I dont wanna hear about stand alone's and blah bla blah'.

If you don't have an answer for the qustions I have ask then dont post.

By the way, have a good look around and you can get Haltech Platinum Pro Plug-in for RB's for $1800.

Why spend nearly the same money on a PFC or anything else really?

Nistune is something like $357.

Sell the neo and buy a nistune...then you can get a proper tune.

No it isn't. You may want to have a look into it.

Its about $800-$900 as far as i am aware.

Ummm unlkess you chasing 600rwhp or more nistune will be fine

I have my reasons for wanting to use haltech.

How do you know i'm not chasing 600rwhp down the track?

Any love for Haltech?

As I have said,

I am on an absolutely tight, shoestring budget just to live and get by.

I need my car running o.k so I can still get to work and earn my shoestring wage,

without the excessive fuel bill every 4-5 days hence why i am using the neo.

My complete stage a tuning will not be performed for some time and i simply can't justify spending anymore that I already am. On top of this my fornt end is fairly smashed up so i need to focus on saving for paint&panel work to avoid getting undesired attention and its comming up to big service time i.e timing belt&tensioners, water pump etc. and the list goes on.

I will install the AFC myself so, $300 for the neo, say $250 for tune=reliable car to get from A-B.

The money I could have spent on a 'nistune' will go on servicing, brakes and rego, once again, to keep the car safe, reliable and legal(as much as possible).

There i go, trying to justify to people why I have made these decisions.

So how about we stay on topic?.....

original question

do you need a wideband

the person tuning your car NEEDS to use a wideband o2.

if you are tuning your car, then you need a wideband o2 sensor and gauge.

if you are getting someone else to tune your car, then they need a wideband o2.

/end thread

Thats all I needed to hear.

Thanks mate muchly appreciated.

Any body?

C'mon simple questions

I have a neo if you need any help pm me

Im also amazed at how much nistune is

For 300 bucks i can get a generic stage one stock ecu remap.

Simple plug and play on an exchange basis that smooths out the four to five k flat spot, returns better fuel econamy and gives on average 330bhp i have seen 350bhp.

I'm interested in this one, where abouts is this one done ? --a contact would be great ;)

that will be for the nistune and tuning. the nistune board itself (with fitting) is only about $310.

and the reason why we go on about it being superior is that because for only a small amount more than what you are spending on a AFC you could get an ECU that doesn't just allow minor altering of the AFM signal where you end up with a compromised power increase. the gains from the nistune will not only give you a higher max power, but also give much more power in the low and midrange, making it better to drive.

    • If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.
    • You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.
    • Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike

    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
