Hi Guys,

Well I picked up a 94' BNR32 with 125,000km on the clock about 4 weeks ago. As you can imagine, I really think this car has travelled a few more Kms then that so it is in need of some work. I thought I would put together a build thread so at the very least I can easily look back at it and see how far I've come.

Engine seems quite tight. 150psi across all cylinders when I did the compression test. The aircon has a few niggles, I think the windings in the clutch have gone so will find a replacement compressor or have mine re-done. Box is in good nick and the diffs are working well without any whine.

I am sure this had had a reasonable amount of mods done to it in the past but I when I picked it up it was back to stock save HKS Y pipes and a gutted compliance cat. The cat-back it the most aweful peice of shit I have ever seen - goes 2 inch, 3 inch, 3.5inch back to 3 and then a tiny muffler...

I have bought and installed a new 3" catco cat... It has cleaned up the nasty smoke coming out and improved the tone of the nasty exhaust... Never mind the nasty cat-back as I bought a 3" Fujitsubo JASMA cat-back system... I need it to be pretty reasonable in volume (as in quiet) as its my daily drive and I do A LOT of Kms a year (some 50,000km/yr).

The interior was in average condition when I picked it up. Basically the previous owner was a slob and didnt even clean it properly for sale - hence the awesome pick up price!!! The dash has a couple of bubbles but is in ok nick. The centre section around the a/c and cd player was damaged. I have already replaced it with a new one and it looks shmick now... I have also replaced the centre console arm rest as the old one was nasty and broken - new one looks shmick!

The sound system didnt work. Some clown had tried to cut the standard ariel cable and solder it up but failed epically! I bought a Kenwood head unit with built in bluetooth and some poineer 3 ways for each corner and installed it all... Happy I did that because the unit in the car wasnt even soldered in! Pic is of new head unit.

The steering wheel was a worn MoMo Corse wheel... Basically it was a nice wheel - the benefits of being really good friends with the guy who owned/owns Revolution Racegear in Wollongong is cheap parts. So I bought a nice new momo and put that in... The gear boot and boot for the handbrake were stuffed so bought new ones of them in put them in... It had a nasty black ball gearknob. I found a stock one and bought it although it is very worn. Still an upgrade from what was in there though i think I will go for a NISMO one soon.

I will get some nice gauges (i want Defi or Pivot in blue) and put them into one of those triple gauge holders that is molded for the r32 dash. I have already bought the blue led kit for the centre gauges, aircon and speedo/dash section... just need time to put them in.

Drivers and passenger seat are a bit worn. I am looking to get a nice low seat that is really comfortable to put in... Any sugestions would be really appreciated! Gotta be good seats though - I want this to be a top notch quality build.

Cheers Steve :(

Now onto the body work side of things!

The body of the car is in reasonable nick considering its 16 years old. There is a bit of rust in the drivers sill under the jacking point and some bubbling in the rear quarter and front quarter.

The front bar has been hacked by some kind of pagan clown. I presume that this was done to accomodate an oil cooler but for god sake - why not do it to both sides?

I am not too worried about it anymore as I just bought a new bar :( I have picked up N1 pods for the rear quarters and am looking out for N1 side skirts... I was originally planning on doing a windows out respray on the car however I think at some point in the next year I will be doing turbos and possibly engine so I want to save my money on that...

The rear bar has been completely rooted by not running a cat for what could only be a LONG time. It has been stained and no amount of polish is bringing it out. So it will have to be sprayed as well...

The window tint will go in as soon as I get the A/C fixed!

Thanks Steve! I read through the article on how to do them, but what a pain it appears to be! Will try and find one that I can have re-wound so I can remove and replace... Time is slightly more important to me as I need the car...

Well I thought I'd received my lovely new bumper today... Fail. The ad description was for a BNR32 bumper... Who'da thought it wouldnt be for a GTR? I was posted a HCR32 bumper!

It is going back to the shop that I bought it from... They have been pretty good about it and are going to give me my money back...

Back to square one - I dont know if I should try to find a genuine GTR bar or go for something aftermarket.... Decisions, decisions....

hey man, car cleaned up nicely :)

+1 for genuine GTR bar

also when I got mine the aircon was playing up all over the joint, had a read through this thread and problem solved

Thanks guys! I wasn't planning on keeping the standard look but modifying it quite a lot. Definately change of mind now though and will be going genuine! Thinking of buying a brandspanking new one!

Will update tomorrow more.

Well time for a proper update... But firstly, willL - it seems you know the car?

After the bumper fiasco I have sourced a genuine brand spanking new Nissan bumper. Would you believe that Nissan has 3 new ones in stock in Melbourne! $600 for it - I think this is the best way to go...

The pods have been posted :)These will suit the car very well! certainly once they are painted up to match they will...

The other acquisition is a fujitsubo exhaust. I know that it will most likely impede flow compared to other exhausts out there but it is a definate upgrade for the time being and will keep the noise down... its a JASMA exhaust but continuous 3' system which is a million times better then the nasty system thats on it atm.

I will give the sucker a good polish and clean up before it goes on and post pics... Hopefully this weekend i'll get it on... I think I am going to paint everything save the end muffler black to keep it fairly inconspicuous.

Other things of note. Noticed (how could I have missed?) that I do not have the factory boost solenoid! The two lines running to it are blocked with bolts. I think I am going to just buy a Profec B spec 2 like I had on my GTST as I liked the unit and the blue display will suit the blue dash lights...

I will have to take some photos of the new dash lights - AWESOME!

nice little build up you got going :ermm: i dont think that new exhaust is that restrictive like you say....

is the front bar you bought from nissan an N1 item or standard? good price either way for a brand spankers !

goodluck !

According to Nissan they only produce the standard bumper now. If you want to add N1 vents you have to do it yourself. I think I will be!

We'll see about the exhaust... I'll have to take pics of the old one as soon as it comes off so you can have a genuine looky at its grand-shitiness...

All right, as asked, photos of the new dash lights. The photos do not do the kit justice - they are bright and blue! so very blue... Got to thank 666DAN for the kit - great quality...

Looking forward to Superlap tomorrow. Hoepfully meet some of the guys there!

OH MY GOD! Freaking Christmas day here today!!!

I bought a new bumper from Import Monster! Genuine front bar and lip in great condition, but the best thing is it has genuine plastic N1 vents!!! Apparently it will arrive on Monday! Nearly there to have the paint work all fixed!!!

The other awesome part is I picked up my package from Melbourne! My lovely new N1 plastic side skirt ends and the awesome 3 to 3.5' Fujitsubo exhaust!!!!

The rear muffler was quite dirty and need of a polish! Check out the nasty rear bar and old exhaust on the car!

I ripped out the 1200 and 2000 grit wet and dry, then hit it with some metal polish... I was planning on painting the rest of the exhuast black, but I couldnt do it as the stainless looks awesome... I cleaned up the middle muffler and wiped the other piping down but otherwise have left is shiny and good

gallery_43534_3792_142072.jpg

I couldnt wait to fit the thing! So I jacked the ass of the car up and went to work!!! You know how I bitched about how bad the old exhaust was - check these out! Seriously, who would put this shit on a GTR???

And whilst the old one was off I finally managed to get a good go at the rear bumper... I got the majority of the stain from the ass clown who ran a de-cat before I bought the car... And then installed the new zorst.... Oh it looks sex...

It is super quiet! Which I actually like. Nice and quiet and when you hit about 2500 it opens up... God the turbos spool so much harder and faster then before!!! It is lovely!!!

The other nice part about today was the N1 pods came! There are a couple of tiny cracks in the bottom section... Will plastic weld them up when I get the paint fixed up...

Here they are. I trialed fitted them and I love it! I will get some body work tape and fit them up!
