Shannons will touch you under 25 IF you have a garage & a clean history.

I would have been able to get insurance with them when i was 23 IF i had a "proper lockup garage" for my car only - ie. 3 walls, roof & lockup door for my car only.

My secure HID token to access "shared" parking is not considered "safe" in their books which i felt was a bit stupid even 5 years ago given the move towards med-high density living in Victoria over the years... I gave the poor girl a good peace of my mind about it as well... lol

So anyone that lives in apartments is fkced even if you ARE over 25 which is very unfortunate.

Hopefully they revisit this "garage" requirement in the next few years as it's only going to become more of a problem and they will quickly get out of touch with people as urban expansion continues!

Hmm I do live in an appartment. Secured shared parking. Yea they would have insured me if my driving record wasn't so bad. I guess I just need to wait till my licence loss is off the records then see what they can do. By then I should have my own house and garage lol

Yer the apartment/shared parking was a issue 2 years ago last time i called Shannons - i asked that question first up just to see if their view had changed and they said no so i didn't continue that convo haha.

Did they say anything about your secured/shared? Or didn't get that far?

Nuh didn't get that far man. Said I lost my licence. She put me on hold for 1 min. Then went sorry we can't insure you blah blah. I still find it amusing that you have to pretty much prove to the why you should give them money. Ah well I hate insurance lol

I had an accident when i was 19. Bad Cas! so shannons wont insure me either :)

well...assessor comes to look at the poor thing tomorrow...see how it goes...

If I cant make enough noise, the ombudsman might :)

its pretty bad when its easier to be at fault for an accident than to be the innocent person hit by someone else. After that kinda experience surely being treated as a second class citizen shouldnt be something you have to put up with?

I've been with Shannons for all my cars since I was about 22, switched from Just Cars.

I have a good driving record, no accident history and a garage. So as others have said, give them a shot even if you are under 25. They are cheaper too.

When I rang Shannons to do me a quote, they're willing to insure me if I'm a active CAMS affliated club member when I was 22, now 23 (I wasn't a member when I rang them last November).

In the end I ended up going Just Car cos they're only one that would cover me (both Shannons and Just Cars refused to cover fibreglass bonnet on 1996 GTR and told me it isn't the end of the world, previous owner was a club member and haven't had issues get insurance with f/glass bonnet and he was under 25 at the time though).

I never had the joy of dealing with insurers (no accidents to my name...).

I'm only assuming that JCI policy in Vic is the same as NSW so...

If JCI has a list of preferred repairers and needs 2x quotes from 'A' & 'B' + If you like 'B' because of his reputation >

Get a quote from 'A' first. Quite often 'B' can find out what 'A's quote has been, and then if possible, undercuts it.

Considering 'A' missed half of the details of the crash terry, that would be hard. 'A' quoted half of what 'B' did. As such, not a favourable end to the assessment of the car. Evidently customer experience means f**k all to Just Car. End of the day its all about money and the person not at fault has to suffer for the fact that their rip off merchant insurance company wont shell out the extra money needed to repair the car properly the first time. The car is now going to Sheen Panels in a few hours, unless i get lost, for ANOTHER recommended repairers quote. If i didnt need insurance for my loan i would be telling them where to stick their so called fking 'cover'. End of the day my policy was worth 3200 last year. Yet for all the premium you pay them to look after your car because they supposedly understand your needs.

Yeah right.

hey guys not really wanting start a new thread but how does just car work with the claim

-take care to assessment center or just tow to the garage where i want the work down and let the assessor come out and have a look at the car??

As stated above, with just car, u do not get choice of repairer so what good would that do? They'd just get u to tow it again to the place THEY want u to go, which is probably dodgy and will wreck ur car. But yeah. U need 2 quotes. One from ur preferred repairer, one from one of their recommended repairers. The assessor came to our house to look at the car. Then they decide which quote is cheaper...don't believe their 'most complete and competitive' bullshit, it's not about complete, it's about competitive. Even when they aren't paying for the repairs.

me: hello shannons... i crashed teh skyline :(

shannons: anyone you prefer to werk on it? :)

me: micilour :)

shannons: ok... i get wallet :(

me: :D

Exact reason why I switched from AAMI (which is same underwriter as JC) to Shannons this year. It's costing me 30% more on the premium, but the discount I get for having a CAMS license, pays for the license and my SAU membership. Bargain :D

Plus it doesn't cost extra to pay by the month. Finally I no longer have to pay yearly insurance and rego in the same month

They are building apartments now with NO allocated car space as well, and they are selling like hotcakes. I know where I would not be living, I'd rather live in my car than have to park on the street :(

which is swell if u meet the criteria for their cover, which we don't.

you take what you can get at the end if the day. We needed a place to live and this was the nicest place at the time, reasonably peaceful neighborhood. But we only get one carspot. As with every other 2 bedroom house, apartment or unit.

Shannons told me if I used their recommended repairer, I'd have a guarantee against the work - and if I didn't that I wouldn't ... which swayed me to use their repairer (much to my chagrin for the repair/respray work that I've had to get re-done because it had a bad color match and easily damaged paint (suggesting bad paint prep) that neither Shannons or the repairer wanted to acknowledge)

I'd definitely use my preferred repairer next time - regardless of their 'warranty against repair' (which seems to amount to nothing given my subsequent complaints)

Good call JRM.

Eg. I have used RACV's own smash repair shop due to the "lifetime guarantee" and I swear they did not do any surface prep or use primer on the new panels because the clear coat came right off when I used the high pressure water jet at the carwash, only a year later. I didn't bother going back as it was just a small area; just did a dodgy DIY patch up fix to seal the area. 2 years later the rest of the clear coat on all the repaired panels all cracked and started peeling off.

I didn't bother going back, ended up selling the car when someone wanted to buy it and do a full respray.

IMHO do it right first time (choose your own, good repairer), and you will need no warranty.

I think someone mentioned here that Famous offer your choice of repairer. May be worth looking into if Shannons won't take you.

Had a look on famous website Which used to be "young and cool" and how did they go from young and cool to "we won't insure you if you are under 30" even though if you google young and cool it links you to the famous website. Will give them a call soon and find out. But yea they do choice of repairer

Recommendation of how to deal with them? Switch insurance companies or Bend over and take it, they will send the car to a repairer and you will be going back for warranty repairs forever. They are arseholes clean and clear
