Rb20det Miss Fire ?

Recommended Posts

hey guys i am the pround owner of a 92 gtst type m, currently my car is basicly stock (enginewise) with a few minor mods such as

- 3inch straight through exhaust with twin 3inch muffler

- gizzmo MS-IBC

- bmc high flow panel filter

it has a bad missfiring problem! i have changed the plugs check the coils all in working order, changed the feul filter basically service the whole engine bay but cant get ridd of this missfiring problem, it generaly happens under hard boost from 5000 rpm till redline, ive basically brang it down to a computer problem. on the cards however is a nistune remap and dyno.... but before i did that i have planed on installing a vg30, plus frount mout, and proper CAI System on the car.......

what are your opinions Remap first then mods or live with it for a couple of months until mods are done and the remap?

and any advice or input on the missfiring would be appreciated?

cheers Joe

5000 rpm till redline, ive basically brang it down to a computer problem.

i have the same problem when it's cold. i've heard it's the computer spiking but i'm not exactly sure what that means. there's a popping sound and loss of power when it happens? it's not when my engine is cold but the temp outside. i think the cold air having more oxygen might be the problem.

my theory with mine is that a sensor is not working properly like the sensor that is supposed to change the mixture in high altitudes? this excess of oxygen might be causing some fires to be a bit too rich or lean.

mine doesn't hapen very often at the moment though but when it does, MAN is it a disappointing feeling...i'm not sure how to fix it man but when you find out i'd love a PM!

cheers

If the ignition system seems to be working properly then maybe you should start looking at fuel system.

Good luck with the trouble shooting mate.

Could be many things when it comes to miss firing, you can try clean your AFM with CRC contact cleaner.

Also check the injectors and wires that gose into each injectors, or take to the mechanics and do some

fuel pressure test ! There are many variable for the miss firing problem. Best way is to start from something

easy and work you way up :)

Hope this helps good luck!

Maybe i missed something but this sounds like textbook coil failure. Time to replace the old OEM ones?

ya thats the thing though, they tested out ok, resistance was fine, but when i put some splitfires in there, it was night and day. if you got a friend with new ones, try it out if the mechanic doesn't clean up the problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

must have been a pretty epic gap there to create that problem ive known of plenty of rbs with gaps all over the place and still ran ok. lucky it wasnt the coils. not such a big deal anymore anyway as theres a bunch of 3rd party rb coils coming out of china for half the price of oem or splitfires, with 99.99% identical performance
