I know I'm not the only one whose boot has this warping on the spare tyre cover. This isn't my car, but you can see what I mean here.

I've always wondered why the cover that sits atop the spare tyre never fit properly. Now I know! Mine was crooked, and the wood/cardboard thing all bent and warped. I came across this picture today and it all made sense. There's supposed to be some foam that clears the spare tyre, with the cover then resting on this, and not directly on top of the tyre.

Now I probably doubt these exist anymore. I've never seen one in anyones Skyline, but then again I don't go pulling up the carpet on each one either lol. It looks like a 1inch thick kind of foam underlay, so I'm sure it's possible to cut one to shape and size. Though it would be nice to locate a genuine one.

Has anyone seen one of these in person before? Or even have one in their car?

I had that thought too Stephen. Do the compliance guys rip these out, or did they simply rot with age. Then it could have been the Japanese owners/sellers or the importers here tossing them. Will be interesting to see if anyone posts here who actually has one.

i through my wooden bit out as it was all kinds of f!#cked, but when i had it i noticed small bits of foam/fabric (similar color to that in the photo) on the bit of wood.

I don't have a space saver anymore just a factory wheel, so foam would make the carpet sit evenly instead of sagging down around the tire that is now sitting quite high, so if anyone did a diy foam insert post up the dimensions so we can all give it a go

The picture I posted Brock is from an R32 Vspec. So the dimensions for each car will probably be a little different. I have a R33 but the idea should be the same for each car.

I have those foam things stuck on the bottom of my wooden board too. Will take a picture of them tomorrow. It looks like the foam bits are the same thickness as the one in the picture.

So will try either Clark Rubber, Bunnings or a carpet place. It's pretty dense foam, so underlay might be too squishy for it. But still this should be a fairly simple thing to cut out once we find the correct foam to use.

A tip my neighbour told me to straighten the warped board was to soak it under a hose, then place cinder blocks or bricks on it. It should then dry straight. I'm not game enough to try that just yet, and was going to get some wood or plywood and cut a new one instead.

I've hated the sag in my boot. Feels like a sand dune sometimes. But the best part is I now know what is missing and it looks simple enough we can all make one.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 馃槈. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 馃槏.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 馃檹 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 馃槈. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 馃槏 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
