Just wondering fi police cars are subject to any speed restrictions when they are under lights?

I was on the ummm.... freeway that goes past wonderland, on Sunday and was overtaken by an unmarked car doing at least twice what I was, maybe a bit more.

By law, they're not allowed to speed if their flashing lights aren't on.

But who's going to stop them? You? Other police colleagues? I don't think so.

As I said they were "under lights" so yeah their lights were on, and siren as well.

Just curious as to what they were actually allowed to do speed wise.

Whatever they feel like?

Oh sorry...

I think when they're under lights, they can speed as long as it's safe.

Also in a chase, I think they have to call it off after a certain speed... 180km/h comes to mind, but I think it's a lot lower than that...

yeah i have seen some silly things from coppas. was waiting at a set of lights one day to turn, and they were on the other side turning the other way. They didnt wanna wait any longer so they stuck the sirens on to do an illegal u turn and hauled ass up the road and shut the sirens off about 100m up the road. This was in browns plains in brisbane....

Cops can do whatever they like with or without lights. They just get into more trouble if they cause an accident without lights on. Sometimes it's necessary, for example to not alert a suspect that they are chasing. Don't bother complaining to anyone about cops speeding without lights on, it will get you nowhere because they are allowed to do it.

One of the stupidest things I've seen a cop do though is bust a ride buddy of mine who had just passed a slow moving car over double lines in front of us. We were on bikes so this wasn't dangerous at all, although I don't do it myself. The cop was coming the other way and did a u-turn across the same double lines which was a LOT more dangerous than my mate's manoeuver. I and several cars had to brake heavily to avoid t-boning him.

My mate copped the fine on the chin, but if he had contested it, I would have gone to court to say that the cop nearly caused a major accident in the process.

I had a cop do atleast 100 in a 60 zone at archer street, chatswood. I was doing the speed limit and he ran a red light and belted up behind me. We stopped right outside the chatswood copshop. He asked for my license would not talk to me and wrote me a ticket for having "foglights on". It was wet and dark, and my manual for a oz 91 VR4 said clearly they were driving lights. I argued with him for 30 mins and he was calling me fen this and fen that and claiming he was x hwy cop....i could tell. Anyway I took it to court and the fat a..hole was there and copped a assraping from the magistrate, as i told them about the manner in which he drove and treated me. I won because he wrote foglights and they were listed as driving lights.

I thought they at least always needed lights, though not sirens, as listed because it alerts the people theyre trying to get.

Ive seen a hwy do a u'ie, scream up to the p-plater civic in front of me full of chicks. They were probably doing round 20k over, so thats well and good. The thing is, instead of trailing behind them with lights/sirens, he drove next to them, and cut them off the road. They weren't trying to run it, she paniced and locked up, he slammed his breaks causing every1 behind him to skid to a stop as well. Seriosuly couldn't beleive it.

I saw a police going skidding off the rd next to a mate house , he was obviously speeding for no apparent reason, while stuck in the ditch and some minor damage he approached us for assistant, as a law abbiding citizen as i am, my reply was "no as we weren't legally train to tow or push car, but we can verify to your sargent that u were excessively speeding at point of impact." haha and someone else from the group yelled out "high speed low IQ".

I no longer drive down that street, lol.

    • I chose a bad time to buy, at the time there was no gtst's for sale in NSW and my options were qld, vic, or sa and not the greatest examples or too far out of my budget. Ended up picking this one from adelaide sight unseen and got a bit stitched up as you could expect but i dont fully regret it, its just a shame people cant be more transparent in this day and age.
    • IMO just buy a whole R33 transmission and swap the whole thing. Use a palm nailer/air hammer with a roll pin punch to drive the shifter rod end roll pins out. The rod end is discontinued so don't break it. Use gasket dressing on the OEM paper gasket instead of RTV. I personally would not pry on the shifter cover tabs, I broke one trying that instead of just smacking the side with a dead blow rubber mallet to shock it loose from the RTV the last mechanic applied. If you can't get the flanges totally clean and free of any residual RTV and/or you might have a gap that is bigger than it should due to flange damage use RTV on that surface instead of the OEM specced anaerobic sealer. Anaerobic sealer is most likely the right sealant for the job, it's just too easy to mess it up with too large a gap or bad surface prep/roughness seemingly. If you do rebuild what you have it's for a whole gearset that can take high torque. Don't bother with OEM at that point.

    • Full e85 barrell stuff real world for reference if it helps as Ive pushed 2 x sets injectors to limit Above mentioned Bosch 1480cc run on 4 bar base to the apparent 1650cc on rb2.7 yielded 912hp / 684  kw  at 92% duty on hub dyno ID1700's - RB 2.8 ...1015hp / 760 kw at 87% duty - hubber dyno + shown off data on track my opinion IF you change injectors just go bigger than you think you need the modern/ good larger ones run just fine if tuned properly even if way bigger than required even on streeters
