This is straight from the Garrett website:

The Garrett Performance Intercoolers (also know as Charge Air Coolers) work together with the turbocharger as a part of the total induction system. When air is compressed in the turbocharger it gains a great deal of heat. The heated air has lower oxygen density and therefore is not able to produce as much energy when fed into the cylinders. The job of the intercooler is to remove heat added by compression in the turbocharger and in turn promote more thorough combustion yielding more power, less emissions, and greatly reducing detonation.

Garrett intercoolers are Bar and Plate and made in Mexico, a large majority of other intercoolers including brand names are made in china, to give you an answer on what would be more effective depends on what your after, for the most effecient cooling you would go for a 3in (75mm) thick for most effecient power 4 1/2in (115mm). The Garrett cores we have in stock have about 20 fins per inch where as others have approx 8 fins per inch.

We can fit most intercoolers for approx $1650 the size 24in (610mm)Length

x 12in (300mm)Height x 4 1/2 (115mm) Wide but I recommend you give us a call or come and see us for a proper quote.

I hope this helps

Garrett make tube and fin also. 20 fpi? Most Garrett cores are either 16fpi or 14 fpi. Never seen one 20 fpi.

I don't think it is correct to say that a large majority of other intercoolers are made in China. By brand names, do you mean HKS, Trust, ARC?

Even HPI cores don't come from China.

Garrett also make a more denser core of 30 fpi, and yes our sources are reliable, we are the sole distributor a company called Precision Turbo and Engine in the USA, the owner of this company sits on the board of Garrett.

Most heat exchanger manufacturers will make almost any FPI you want (within reason) if you ask for it. I've never seen a Garrett with more than 16 FPI. I reckon even that would be a little restrictive in the long cores people use on the Skylines.

Would be good for a top/bottom flow cooler though!

Im very familiar with Precision. Nice turbos.

I have the RSPL unit and I find it works well with my td06-20g turbo, I bought it back in the time before I found other people selling them (like nengun) and ended up paying around $2500 fitted. Compared to what I could have got it for from nengun a premium price, I am happy with it though plus I didnt have to worry about it getting here all damaged.

hmm. I thought R-SPL is the side mount IC that fit in the factory spot in the R34, n the V-SPL is the FMIC.

IS there any significant gain/benefit for replacing the factory r34 side mount cooler to the Trust R-SPL side mount? (with factory turbo)

the trust cooler you are referring to is an R-spl core which is 119mm thick (ie triple) vs 80mm core on the R34.

front mounts come in V-spl and R-spl cores.

I see. so the R-spl come in side mount as well as front mount. so what's the power rating(dunno the proper term, first time turbo car owner) for the side mount R-spl n the stock r34 gtt side mount IC?

just want to know if it's worth the upgrade

We bought an Apexi GT cooler from nengun (www.nengun.com) and are very happy with it.

It looks much better (imho) than the normal coolers, and a much stronger design (by stronger, I mean I cannot physically bend the fins)

Bar and plate, 610 x 276 x 88. $1600 at our door.

Because its a "brand name" kit, everything just fits with very minimul dicking around and has supports on supports on supports. Pipwork bolts on in about 3 places just between cooler and plenum. Also doesnt need the fan blade cut like most hybrid kits.

We were more than happy to pay the extra for a brand name kit that we knew would bolt straight on, give great performance and look tops.

my Blitz front mount is awesome. I love how the only thing I had to cut was the front bar. The Jap kits IMO are better as they're easier to install. Plus there's the reliability. I've yet to hear anyone complain about a Jap kit...search the Hybrids - it's a mix of complaints and praise.

I've ordered a HKS Type S Kit from http://www.greenline.jp

$1300 delivered, or there abouts.

Also check out http://www.nengun.siteblast.com

:werd: mine was 1320 delivered and taxed. get a jap one, they are a perfect fit and top consistent quality.
