After watching many touge battles on youtube with Tsuchiya and orido I've become interested in Japanese imports. I'm interested in importing a Nissan Silvia s13 Q's, preferably above auction grade 4, but am just wondering how much this would cost me? I am on my P's so I can't import a turbo. I hear these are good cars to learn how to drive properly in as they have a nice power level and are fairly balanced. I have around 10,000-11,000 to spend. And don't want to buy a s13 from australia becasue most of them are P.O.S auto's that have been flogged. Whats the possibility of importing one of these that are in good condition from Japan? or are they too old now? can you import non turbo s14's?

s14's can not be imported

You'll have to buy local, most s13's in Japan are also P.O.S. They are old and cheap so they don't tend to get treated very well.

hey where r u located? i havent got a silvia but i have a clean well priced good condition cefiro for sale that im happy to sell to a good home thats within your budget if youll take good care of it... its turbo though.. but easy to convert back to non turbo or just buy it for safe keeping!!!

well i've been looking around and came across a car called A Nissan 180sx Type S non turbo and Nissan 180sx Type G non turbo. Are these able to be imported into the country? And what sort of price would i be looking at for 96/97 modeL? Do you know anything about this iron chef?

only NA cars in that style I'm aware of are teh S15 Autechs. I have a varietta currently and I know a fellow that has the hardtop version as well. both NA and both outside of your budget.

would suggest a look at the dotars site as to what can and can't come in. from memory S13 is off the list.

yeah i dont reckon you'll find much for that sort of cash - import wise (my 180 - turbo was about 16 all up) and that was a 91 model

maybe look at some of the cheaper cars and think about an engine/gearbox transplant..

they haven't been able to comply since SEVS was introduced, SEVS means "specialist and enthusiast vehicles"

it has no grill. faded paint. is 19 years old. has a deep corn steering wheel. and a dildo gear knob. with 110km... ...it's 19 years old... looks like it's had a hard life... 110,000km.. you beleive those km?

i was going to buy this car for my mum at auction in japan, my mum fumbled and umm'd and arr'd about it, and a japanese dealer got hold of it.

as you can see. it's a soarer. boring old soarer... right? look.

it's black

it has a black interior

it's not a turbo

it's got a 2Jz VVTI motor. (that's a 3litre doggies.. with VVT. as opposed to 2litre non VVT found in a silvia)

it has 19" SSR wheels

lowered suspension

it's got 87xxx km

it's got dual airbags

it's got electric seats, windows, mirrors, FOLDING mirrors. cruise control,

updated body shape

it's a 1997

it's a lot newer, it's a lot more advanced. it's a lot cleaner, it's a lot nicer.

that's from a dealer in japan

and can be landed and complied for about 12 grand.

that's the DEALER price.

if you had've got that at auction when i saw it... you probably could've had it for a few thousand dollars less..

haha It was actually a silvia autech i saw in the touge battle that i really liked, but cause itd be way too expensive i had to downgrade my hopes to an s13 na. then i saw all these japanese guys doing drifts in s13's and i thought..damnnn i'd look prety hektik in one of those. maybe a lil lowered with a nice exhaust. and i hear they hav nice fuel economy which wuld be good for minimised costs!

and im actually 18 and at uni, hence the very low budget haha

anyway about that toyota soarer thats a damnnn nice car but i havent thought about one caus im prety sure the non turbo soarers only come in autoand i'm really not sure if you can enjoy an auto as much as a manual

are you after a drifter or a daily? or both?

Just a daily. Like an overall balanced street car. I'd prefer RWD so I can learn how to drive properly (currently using a front wheel drive car). and yeah i wouldn't mind learning how to drift but can't afford too with the price of tires.

you should be able to pick one of them up reasonably cheap with money left over to set it up for drift/daily specs

Yeah i was thinking of an AE86 Trueno. But I've been looking on japaneseusedcars and i haven't seen any over auction grade 3? so anythng below 3 has things wrong with it corect?

that car looks like an absolute pearler... that looks like it'd be off the showroom floor

but..

38 thousand km... for a 1996?

that's 14 years old...

that's implying that the owner has done on average 2,718 km a year...

you beleive that???

i mean, of course, it's POSSIBLE that it's travelled that distance, but unlikely... winding back odometers is very common practice.

but that doesn't mean that it's a bad car even if it HAS been wound back.. if the panels are straight, if the interior is clean, if the car runs well.. who cares how many km it's done!

same goes for auction grade... auction grade means NOTHING unless you're looking at grade R or grade O (this means it's accidented and repaired... but EVEN THEN you can attain a bargain at auction, because if it's had a light tap in the back and repaired well... who's to know?)

but auction grade means nothing ... especially with your budget... i've been looking for a car for months and i'll get a grade 4 car inspected and up close it'll be a turd bucket, grade 3 cars can often be pearlers! they're only a guideline... you're buying a CAR not some paperwork!!!!

grade 4 means great conditon for it's age, 4.5 means "almost good as new"

3/3.5 means average condition for it's age

so don't be shy... ae86 is about 25/30 years old now... it's not easy keeping a car of that age in ANY shape let alone grade 4 condition by an auction assessor... but be prepared to pay thru the nose for them

no offense but you're loking at buying an import for all the wrong reasons man...

you want one to "learn how to drive properly" and "perfect weight balance"

importing cars is for people who want to drive a unique enthusiast car and cherish them really... you wanna drive a car at 110kmh thru the mountains cos you saw a japanese dude drifting then get a commodore..

you wanna get a grade four golden era japanese car so you can "learn to drift" or "have a touge run" (on public roads i'm assuming... thanks for doing that by the way... if there's one thing austrlaia needs more of is more max orido wannabes uploading video footage of themselves speeding through public streets)

but yeah

i say don't be afraid to import... it's a good idea... you'll hopefully learn a lot along the way and grow into a more mature person because of it... but understand with your budget you're not going to get a "showroom condition" car...

same as over here in aus... your budget won't allow for well maintained cars man

With the current spate of posts from newbs in the past few days - all of whom seem to either post about how they have this great plan for a car, or ask stupid questions (incapable of researching for themselves or even using search) or both -- i'm left wondering if it's school holidays again ... *sigh*

    • The car is still in paint jail. Here are some paint jail photos of things in primer and disassembled. I visited yesterday, though these photos were from about a month ago, the status is much the same. There's just more dust now. Especially inside the car too, which apparently is fine and normal... but I think I'll be never ever having a clean interior ever again lol.   As this has dragged along, a few new parts have also arrived which was supposed to be well after paint... where Greg replaces every single bit of the engine except the bottom end. This is extreme LS nerd stuff dialed to 11/10 that's probably not really suited for target audience here. (and there's more in the mail, from the US). .
    • The GTT probably only has the same little bag of tools that the R32 had, which contained useless pliers, a spanner or two, a screwdriver thingo, and the handle and crank stuff for the jack.

    • Could someone post some pictures of the factory Jack , tools, spare tire and how they were in a 1998 ER34 2 door skyline originally?
