Haven't read entire thread, but why doesn't the OP just go look at some local cars...?

Because about 3 weeks ago, I inspected a Toyota Supra, with my uncle who is a mechanic, and there was weld marks near the roof each side covered by paintjob, and the front end was out of alignment, and the guy said there was nothing wrong with it, when it obviously had hit left front end and rolled, also the tires showed race wear. So i cant be bothered wasting my time becasue most people here say there car is in good condition when really it is f**ked up. I was thinking at least if i Imported from Japan the auction report would be enough for my piece of mind. Also I looked at BMW 318i and the owner conveniently had put on new tires (obviously to cover up the old f**ked up ones). Also i looked in the engine bay and bada-bing! new engine oil, most likely thicker than whats needed, quite convenient to cover up knocking noises in the engine. so yes thats why i dont look local anymore. From my experience everyone here, tries to rip you off, then when shit goes wrong its not their problem..I want a TRUSTWORTHY CAR.

And thanks Mr.Eps for all the info. Regarding Toyota Soarers I readedd somewhere they were hard to compliance? and lots of compliance places didnt want to touch them? is there a reason for this?

Lol...... You've looked at 2 bad cars. Well done.

Were they cheap for their market price?

How do you know same hasn't happened in Japland and an auctioneer got lazy and graded it a 4 cause he was tired?

BMW guy asking $6500. 1994 model

and i doubt a japanese auction man wuld stuff up the grading, theyre too experienced to do that

There are many factors.

There you have it, a supra for 10,500. And you complain that its f**ked? Of course its gonna be crap.

I looked at almost 10 supras before actually deciding. You have to be patient before finding something good, and in my case, it was not a bad buy, but it was dusty as f**k and having cracked sideskirts/slightly faded paint etc, and on the day i took ownership of the car, i spent the next 4 hours cleaning up dust, and grime that had accumulated over the years, although the engine bay was mint. Its weird eh, but when i saw the car, i just wanted it. Automatic or not, didn't matter, i'm a lazy boy anyway.

So, my advice to you is, to be patient, and look around, skylines are cheap for about 12grand you can get a nice 33gtst, but you should never be hasty. Take your time.

could very well have happened in japan? and the australian owner just not know about it? that's what happens when you don't get the car fully inspected in J :P

besides... if car has been crashed and repaired... PROPERLY repaired.. then so what? i read the guy was asking 10.5K for it... what did you honestly expect?

also the tires showed race wear.

WAT THE SHIT DOES RACE WEAR MEAN. NO REALLY WHAT THE HECK. bald tyres are bald tyres. it's a consumable. they go bald over time, and you replace them!

So i cant be bothered wasting my time becasue most people here say there car is in good condition when really it is f**ked up.

ok ... that right there. see what you said right there? read it again to make sure it is understood... reaaaaddd itttt... then read the next sentence

BOOOM BABY. enough for your piece of mind??? an A6 piece of paper that's graded from looking at the car for a total of 30 seconds??? sorry to be rude but you just contradicted yourself again. you can't trust what put on paper in australia. and TRUST ME. you can't trust what's put on paper in australia, either.

Also I looked at BMW 318i and the owner conveniently had put on new tires (obviously to cover up the old f**ked up ones).

that's what people do. it's not a brand new car!

mmm and with very good reason

From my experience everyone here, tries to rip you off,

i do agree and disagree with you on this point... it can be a rip off but if they're the importer themselves... it SHOULD be a ripoff cos THEY took the chance by importing a vehicle!!!

then when shit goes wrong its not their problem..

you're absolutely right - it's not their problem. because it's NOT THEIR CAR!!! =)

And thanks Mr.Eps for all the info.

you're welcome

Regarding Toyota Soarers I readedd somewhere they were hard to compliance? and lots of compliance places didnt want to touch them? is there a reason for this?

man... you say you read that supras have bad weight distribution. you say soarers are hard to comply. you say so many things... WHAT DO YOU READ!!! WHERE DO YOU FIND THIS PUBLICATION???

that magazine should be banned

YOU DONT COMPLY THE CAR. YOU PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU AND THEY DO IT!!!

compliance places don't want to touch them? why do you think there are so many soarers in australia? surely they don't grow by osmosis...

=|

i... no offence... but i start to worry that you're not actually a genuine user you're just a banned user from the past having a laugh at our expense... because seriously you're like.. the best troll i've ever met

Dude, osmosis is not a growth mechanism.

high school stuff.

yeah that would be my problem- impatient. i guess i'll just take my time and try find a nice locally.

by the way id have to stray towards an r33 gts25 caus im on my P platers.

Where are you located? I could let you try out my supra if you're in melbourne. This is to change your prejudice against the supra, the rwd offerings from nissan and toyota are all pretty good.

hey XALMON im located near Sydney at the moment. As for predjudice against the supra, i dont mind them im just worried about buying a car that blows up on me or things go wrong. Cause ym freind bought one for 8 grand and lots of things are going wrong with it. If i find a good example of one id love to drive a supra. By the way is $14000 for a supra with 130,000km's on it a good price. Series 2 1997 model?

as for me being a troll mr.eps.... i wouldnt say im a troll, but rather that i have become deluded from a few bad experiences.

im pretty sure my assumptions were correct mr.eps caus that beamer is still for sale.

obvs is a P.O.S

ummm il try find the thread bout soarer compliance and post a link

Edited by La Bomba

Dont look at the price first, that can always be negotiated, just go look at the car, if you like it, then talk about the price.

The price can always be knocked down slightly, but 14k is pretty cheap for such a new car. As mentioned many times on the forum, kilometers don't matter, look at the overall condition of the car. It might be a 97 s2, but if its trashed, its gonna be crap. Just take it for a test drive, if its in good nick, 14 isn't all that bad, but ask for a discount anyway.

Care to show the ad?

la bomba - still easy to comply... just gotta find the right raws shop - which your broker would be only too happy to do for with ANY car..

it's in their interests to keep their rep as giving excellent customer service!!!

130,000 km for a 97 i'd be looking into the VIN or seeing any proof of genuine km (not that km matter!! you're buying a CAR not a bunch of numbers on a sheet of paper!)

the 97 is a huge upgrade cos it has VVTI so it's a lot more umm

what the word

umm

economical

and a little bit more power too

LMFAO. It was probably a post on boost cruising

Labamba just buy a VL, you seem to fit the stereotype well and it's no wonder you're from Sydney. Sleep well Mr Drift God.

OHHHH thanks for the advice mr.eps. So once i look at the vin and get the details, what do i do? Ring up Toyota? and as for VVTi that means i can save on lots of fuel. fuel prices is just too high these days. The supra 1997 is at this dealership in botany. they have the same gunmetal grey coloured one but in a 6 speed manual for around 17,900. and i think its got about 80k on it, but thats way out of my price range. once the uni semester is done i might go down and have a look at the 5 sp one.

Gunner Yeahhh but whatz the fun in an NA VL? Yu can't dose it!! Although i could put on a fake turbo tip and and a nice turbo badge to make it look like a turbo. And lower the seats so all chicks can see is a kappa hat above the dash and my arm hanging out the window. Anyway Gunnar im not a drift god, i just watch mad drift videos.

Edited by La Bomba
Lol, vvti doesn't save you much on fuel, but you do get a little bit more power.. + 10hp at the flywheel perhaps?

an extra 10hp at the flywheel...hmmm that'd be good for my 300 km/h midnight cannonball runs ..coughhh i did not say that hahaha.

on a serious note, when i go to inspect this supra, seeing as its from a dealer, what should i look for? besides the VIN number? also should i ask the dealer for the auction sheet?

http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=4680

Check out that thread from supraforums.

Basically the same stuff you look out for when you go shopping for the car. And ask to see ALL the papers that came with it from Japan.

    • Hey all, I'm working on a project car and I believe I made some mistakes. I'm looking to remove the clear coat from my car on most panels (except for panels where the paint has blistered, I will sand this), but wanted to know if these steps are correct?   1) Get a red scuff pad (abrasive one) instead of sand paper to remove the shine from the surface 2) get 400 grit sand paper and go over the entire car with a random orbital sander so the surface is smooth and the primer can grab onto something 3) On the blistered paint, go over it with around 120 grit sand paper, go to 240 to smooth out the scratches, then finish on 400 grit. Anything to add in here or any feedback?
    • Agreed, another vote for the Haltech CAN wideband.  No voltage offset errors is a beautiful thing.
    • Just get a Haltech CAN wideband, no need to wire any delay circuits, or relay, etc. Since I've moved to a Haltech CANbus wideband, I have not replaced a single sensor for over 5 years (if not longer, can't remember when moved to Haltach).
    • Small analogue delay circuit with a relay. Just need a trigger, say, fuel pump running for more than 5s or so? Or, you could go full mental and write a sketch for an Arduino.
