Ive got cusco coilovers in my r33 and desperately need to raise the car about 20mm and was looking at the coilovers to see but it seems it is at its max height but Im not sure, I figure that first compressed spring is for the height and the other on top is for adjusting the spring rate but if I push up the spring rate can I get more room to lift it up? or have I just got the wrong idea about adjusting it.

Anway here are the pics so tell me what you guys think.

Thanks

bit mixed up there so lets clear some stuff up.

The bigger main spring has a set spring rate depending on the diametre of the metal & the number of coils, you cannot adjust the spring rate. If you want to run a different spring rate you have to replace the entire spring.

The smaller spring is called the 'helper spring', its job is to stop the bigger spring bouncing around & rattling when the shock is at full extension & pressure is taken off the main spring. It makes no difference to ride quality as its relatively quite soft & just compresses when the shock is under load.

To get a better idea of how much more adjustment your cusco's have you need to remove a wheel so you can look at the coilover side on as its being blocked by the spring in those pictures. That said you should easily have 20mm of adjustment left.

To adjust them you need to jack the car up to take the load off the coilover, remove the wheel & using a pair of 'C' spanners move the spring perch up the shock shaft. The spring perch is the red bit that the helper & main spring sits on, it may be hard to move due to all the road grime so have wd40 at the ready.

cheers, tim

it already looks to be adjusted fairly high. doesnt look like theres much adjustment(to raise the vehicle)left..how high is the car now, maybe the springs are due for replacement..
