Ok I know I know that my car is not a Skyline but I had to share this info with you I just found out.

Just found an interesting fact out about my car, it never came out of the factory with a BOV!.. how weird is that?!?!

Engine in question here is a 1G-GTEU.

It has been fitted with an aftermarket BOV since (blitz atmo), but never had a factory one... found this out when i was trying to find a BOV that went back into the system.

Wouldn't this be damaging to the turbo's?.. especially if uping the boost?.

Guess I will have to just keep the atmo one and hope for the best .

Dean did your mates Supra have a BOV on it?

Rob.

Hey rob, mate my mates was bone stock. It had no bov afaik and all i remember about the car was its water to air intercooler.

Like i said mate, there is absolutely nothin about this engine.

All i can think off is that the BOV is meant to help protect the turbo and help it spool faster, so really, i dont think it can be hurtin them too much.

Hows the car goin now anyway? I wouldnt mind seeing it soon. Comin to the cruise on sun 25th?

Hey Dean,

Ahh he must have had a Gen II 1G-GTE , mine is Air to Air intercooled. Gen III 1G-GTE came out in the 1988 models and changed from water/air to air/air and was factory rated at 210 BHP (or around that) up from 175BHP in the Gen II.

Na I mean't I thought it would do damange not having a BOV :O.

Car is going great now, the Alternator was causing all those probs I was having.. since i got it fixed I havn't had a single prob :O.

I can't come to next weeks cruise as I have a 40th the night before and yeah won't be in any shape to drive the next day .

However the next cruise I will be there, confirmed it already with the misses hehe.

Hopefully by then it will be lowered... (getting whiteline springs put in)

Hmm interesting indeed.

On another note, do you ever remember seeing an external antenna on your mate's car?.... Mine doesnt have 1 at all on the exterior.. it must be somewhere under the body?, unsure if this is factory or not.....yet the MA70 & JZA70 have them on the rear (right side).

Cheers thanks Danish :(

Mine runs a boost controller (unplugged at present tho) so want to keep to BOV on there just incase.

See you have a GZ20 Soarer .. there is one of them around the corner from where I live but it is not registered yet, looks like it has just been imported and hasn't gone to regency yet.. very nice looking cars.

I had a Blitz BOV on my old 1G for a while. But it didn't vent much at all since there was a problem with the engine. I think it was very low compression in the end.

A friend of mine welded the standard metal peice the BOV came with from a Silvia to fit the 1G.

I ran about 15PSI in the end with and without a BOV.

How about just cut loose the 1G and get a 1JZ? :(

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
