Hello guys.. I just Got my Turbo package wcich is GT3040 with .63 exhaust housing, Tial 38mm wastegate and i also got an apointment with my mech. for the next thursday :) and he said after installation we power run it to see if i need to upgrade my Injectors and if so he will get me 600ccs (God help me with my fuel cunsumption ;)). so fingers crossed.

IF YOU GUYS WANT to know the resault i can post in this thread and let u all know..

R31Nismoid and Rob77, his info says he has an R32. That would mean his injectors are 270cc, not 370.

ya, i was reffering to R0b77 when i was bring up all the formula's etc.

But you can substitute 370 for 270 or any other number really

and INASNT... remember it's RB20, so a .63 housing would go nicely.

0.63 is a rather small exh housing for a 3040, i got a 0.82 rear on mine

How do you knwo 0.63 is small? Check my post above. You haven't put yours on yet, might be a lag monster.

Guy here changed from 0.61 on HKS 3037 (bit smaller comp wheel only compared to 3040) to 0.87 and went from 256rwkW @ 1 Bar with full boost at 3500rpm to 280 at 1.2 bar but no boost until 5200rpm. Would be heaps slower on the road.

Gotta remember the A/R is a ratio, not an absolute number so if you have a big exhaust wheel then the area inside the exhaust housing will also be big to maintain the ratio of 0.63. And it's the area that gives the flow at the top end + the exhaust wheel diameter.

I have just started playing with my boost controller and wound it up to 1.1bar and it feels like its made a large difference, definately getting more wheelspin... eventually we'll get it on the dyno and tune it for 1.2bar I'll post the results when on hand.

Rob your TD06 has the exhaust housing meant for a 13B rotory, so do you really think if you gave a Garret 3040 (Internal or external gate) a 1.12 A/R exhaust housing that it would still spool up quicker.

If you used the recommended Trust housing on your car (12cm^2), then it would provide a lot more midrange hit. The response you are getting could probably be matched by the bigger Trust TD06-25g (Trust recommend 10cm^2 for an RB25...remember what Freebaggin said about A/R sizes and wheel sizes :rolleyes: )

...but this aint a thread about Trust turbos, just pointing out that a turbos characteristics can vary a lot depending on the A/R housings used.

Same guys that are putting my car together had a 3037 on a stock sr20 and made 300rwkw at 1.6bar and it had a 0.82 rear on it or similiar. The owner said it wasent laggy at all, and after seeing it being canned around the streets i agree with him.

The 0.82 seems to be the best combination for making good power without being a lag monster, as recommended by the shop that built my turbo.

Well, with 0.87 turbine housing boost is now coming in alot earlier, hard to know exactly, but experimenting with peak hold on power fc, I now get 1.2bar at 4200rpm, 3rd gear. ( and it was [email protected], not 280:D:p, 270 at 1.1bar, 300 at 1.5bar - top end was choking, which it doesnt feel like it is doing anymore:) -fitted new 90mm catback) - feels stonger everywhere now, on and off boost - but havent re-dynoed yet, so just seat of the pants, cant wait to get it up and push the redline to 8000rpm (before the exhaust upgrade power peaked at only 7000rpm before tapering back a little.)

anyways the car pulls hard, but boost doesnt come in quite as hard as with 0.61 housing (1bar at appox 3000rpm) - car was stepping out in 4th at 90-100kph and only a bit more than lazy accellerating - made it very scary to drive on the road in traffic, cos boost was like an on/off switch, and when it came on the back end would step out every time with as little as 1.2bar - the only way to control the car was by turning boost down:(

I can actually control boost with the right foot to a fair degree now, which is really nice, more boost, just push the right foot in a bit further. So gentle traffic driving, stays in traffic off boost no probs, at lights or if overtaking. I have 1.7bar set for the road, vs the 1.0 with the smaller housing.

Under 0.5bar, the boost comes in very linearly, from approx 0.5bar, she starts pulling hard.

but the best part is now I can control the boost ramp with my right foot to a fair degree, so no more surprises in heavy traffic - really is very nice to drive and very controllable.

All in all, alot better for the street, and much happier with the 0.87now, but wouldnt mind going a 0.73 to see how it compares (anybody got a spare one they want to sell/loan me?)

For interest too, and comparison to trust turbos, HKS rate their turbine housing sizes:

0.61 = 8cm

0.73 = 10cm

0.87 = 12cm

thats what the tags on the housings say when you buy them new anyways.

HKS actully recommend the 0.87 for the 3037 kit they sell for RB25.

I have done cams too (256/264) but I also dropped CR to 8.6:1 which I think it is fair to say would offset the increase from the cams to a fair degree.
