Ok guys I am putting the stock airbox back in the r33 gts-t that I just bought. I am trying to work out what panel filter is best. I have used K&Ns before on many cars but all the reading (i have searched) on here says steer clear due to them oiling up the hotwire in the airflow meter. I had an issue with this on my XR8 so I would rather keep clear of them for that reason alone.

So I started looking at the apexis, which were recommended on this site. What I want to know is how much better do they flow than the standard ryco filters? is there any improvement or are you paying for the name that is sprayed on it? also how do you clean these seeing as they are paper?

Second, I rang autobarn for a price on an apexi filter and he told me they stock only BMCfor the nissans, not K&N for the reason described above. He said the BMCs have better filtration and use much less oil and therefore dont do any harm. is this true? would they flow alot better than the apexi?

I've been running K&N for a while now and my AFM is hella clean, absolutely spotless. I'm not really a fan of paper filters, I held one of those ryco filters up to a light once and could easily see many holes which shone through too much light for my liking.

I was told just not to completely drench it in oil and you can always clean your AFM when you decide to service your filter - it's a good idea anyway.

AFAIK, you could always run them dry if you really wanted?

Hah!

What the fuck is a BMC filter..?

I would spend the time to look for an APex'i or K&N one.

You DON'T have to use the oil spray, you can leave the filter dry as what most if not all ppl do on SAU.

K&N recommend it but you don't have to spray it.

:(

Just run the K&N dry or with very little oil. You can also clean your AFM wire easily with a couple of squirts of CRC automotive sensor cleaner.

Ryco filter will pose more of a restriction when new as compared to a K&N... They are even worse when slightly dirty as compared to a slightly dirty K&N... if you get waht I mean.
