The front mount will be fine. Doesn't really have any effect on your emissions.

RED513 is right on the money. Cat and o2 sensor checks and you'll be right to go.

Unless you have drastically changed the amount of fuel (injectors) or air (turbo), then you have no need for an aftermarket ecu. (for emissions, of course. Always power benefits from a tune! :rofl2:)

hey guys had car emissions tested and it bombed out real bad so im thinkin of just doing what the tuner said and get the aftermarket ecu but he also said that nistune will not have the paremeters that i need 2 get it to pass

any one know where i can get a power fc

or does any one know anything about microtech as they are in my area and will install 4 1400

nistune and power fc are very similar, just the power fc has more resolution in the maps. nistune will do fuel & ignition, closed loop corrections, after start / cold start and acceleration enrichment, what else do you need to get a good tune to pass emissions. microtech are alright, but its not an ecu i'd be picking, especially for an emissions pass.

Get another tuner! Nistune will tune your engine fine. When you say bombed out on emissions test what was the problem? Do you have any numbers, readout? Did you replace the cat convertor? With an almost standard car its ridiculous to be telling you that you need a Microtech.

ive got a read out here somewhere ill have to scan it and post it and no i didnt change the cat the exhaust place said they only put cats on that meet australian standards and yeah the tuner is saying power fc but i think h just wants to try n make some extra money out of me wants 2 charge me 2500 then tuning on top

try and find out what make the cat is

x-force cats are notorious for their poor performance (both power and emissions wise)

catco and metalcat are supposed to be good tho

and x2 on the nisstune being as good if not better for emissions

have you changed your o2 sensor while you have owned the car? if not, replace it asap its probably the main reason it failed the test cos the ecu can't see how rich its running

Actually a "lean" tune will fail the IM240 test.

The tune must be such that the levels of CO, hydrocarbons, and NOx gasses are all within regulations.

A lean tune will fail just as hard as a rich tune will.

As quoted above, it's not about how filthy rich your tune may be but the gases that are created by the combustion of O2 and fuel.

It is imperative that you have a catalytic converter that is able to convert the gases into other gases that aren't measured in the IM240 test.

This is why decat pipes are illegal and carry a hefty fine for emissions.

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
