Hi,

I have recently bought a new R33 GTR and have been getting into track days and now sprints in the GTR at Mallala here in SA. However i want to have a crack at some other tracks and really want to drive Phillip Island.

I was looking on their site at the calender and there appears to be only one or two open days for cars all year. Is this the case or is there another way to get out there. I have 3 weeks holidays in June and want to head over.

Also i was lookinig and it says that you need a national circuit licence to get on. Is this true as i only have a L2 speed licence.

Feedback would be much appreciated as keen to give the GTR a run somewhere different whilst i have some time off.

Cheers,

Matt

Also - no help for June - but the remaining 2 Day LS2 events held by PIARC dates for the year are:

July 17 + 18

Aug 21 + 22

Nov 13 + 14

These are probably the best ones to plan for if you are coming interstate as you can run multiple days - and if you've never been to PI before I can tell you most normal people need a good 2 days to get their head around the place for their first visit.

Thanks for the info.

Could probably do 17 and 18 of July. Do any SAU guys get out to these?

Will my relatively stock GTR survive 2 days of PI action?

Hi, PI is not too hard on brakes as Sandown, you would still need good high temp pads and dot 5 brake fluid.PI is a very fast floing circuit. Love it.

There is a Steve Piazzatti private track day on 2nd July Friday. No licence required,no scrutineering, open pit lane,$595 per car, unlimited driver and passenger ride , limited to 30 cars though. 3 instructors on the day, namely Cameron Maconville,Fabian Cuthard and Luke Youldon for a small charge.

I'll be there with a S15 hopefully my track GTR33 will be running and testing too. Will be a good fun and learning day.

call me on 0433 878905 if you need support

Yeah plenty of SAU people do these days. If you plan on coming for this event let me know and I will come down for it as well and see if any other crew are keen.

The thing to remember about PI is that it is FAST. So there is plenty of cooling before the 2 stops so brakes aren't an issue. Speeds are high though so you'd want good tyres and PI is hard on tyres - especially right fronts so you'll want to rotate them around over a weekend. otherwise just the usual oil cooling etc.

It really is a place that is hard on drivers metal capacity more so than on vehicles. But it is easily the best Austrailan track I've driven on so well worth the effort.

+1 for the oil cooling. I also run a fairly stock R33 gtr with stock brakes (good pads) and the only thing that stresses the car is the oil/water temps on a warm day. That being said you are planning on coming during winter in which case bring a warm jacket :bunny:

Im going to try and organise a trip over on the 17th and 18th so will let you guys know in the next few weeks if i can make it all happen.

I run Advan 048 at the moment and have been ok. Will probably go to RE55 when i get my TE37 i ordered. Also i run Racebrake RB74 pad and had no issues at Mallala which i am told is fairly hard on brakes.

I think my next upgrade will be a engine oil cooler and filter moval kit to make oil changes easier and keep the car a bit cooler.

Thanks for all the info guys and i will hopefully see you all at the Island for a drive.
