I've just changed my struts and springs on my series 1 350GT8,

I'm surprised to find the factory struts in red instead of the usual black.

The springs are standard as far as I can tell but I do feel that the car roll less on these factory struts then compared to my previous 300GT.

They have the Unisun/Nissan stamp on it.

Anybody here knows if they're some kind of factory upgrade option for the GT8s?

Thanks!

unisia jecs manufacture a whole heaps of brands. they are probably nismo struts. i would say something like an S tune.

R tune has blue struts with yellow springs. S tune is usually silver struts with red springs.

oh gosh ...

the new struts I've put in are the silver nismo s tune struts

And I just compared the nismo ones with these red ones .. the stamps are in the same location and in the same wording layout and style, complete with 'nissan' and 'unisia'

only difference is the nismo one has the 'nismo' sticker on it and the red one is in the same colour as my 350GT8 ....

I'll really like to hear from other GT8 owners what they have on their car .. maybe it is a standard for GT8s to be upgraded to nismo struts from the factory and so comes in the same colour as the car itself?

well ... looks like I might as well should had just change the springs alone!? :)

Nismo s-tune struts are always silver with red springs.

My guess is that these red ones are the standard GT-8 struts.

Have a look at this car. Click on the picture of the wheel - you can see a red strut in the background.

dun be too excited.....

u sounded like me when i just changed mine to 350z shocks and springs...excited with the possibility that it was an aftermarket or oem hi-spec option due to the red paint....

reality is, they r just the stock standard shocks....mine r sitting in my room collecting dust at the moment...

do u have a factory nismo bodykit as well? cos my GT8 has the full nismo bodykit....Maybe these red shocks came with the oem nismo upgrade option???? having said that, the red shocks r too soft to be performance shocks...

they might be soft, but they could be more firm than a standard shock.

its entirely possible that someone ticked a nismo box when they bought the car. unless ALL V35 shocks are like that. anyway, youve upgraded, worse case is you have brand new shocks, not something 5 years old

.. definately firmer then the standard shocks that our 300GT had.

Even though the springs look standard and the ride height normal, the 350GT8 has less roll around corners with these red ones.

Anyways, these are up for sale $200 with the springs thrown in though I would match them with firmer lower springs.

    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
