Hey guys,

I've been told that my timing belt for my rb25det S2 will probably be needed to be replaced during my next service. Just wondering whether it is worth it getting a good timing belt as a replacement or just an original one? also as to whether it is worth doing the tentioners at the same time, the sellers of these performance ones reckon so but they could be just trying to make a sale?. Example of the upgraded one are in the links below.

Cheers!

Yeah you might aswell do it all at the same time since if the tensioners let go so will you will you engine if you want to do something else while your there do the water pump to as if that goes later on youll have to take the belt off to change it.

and there is no need for a performance timing belt, they do nothing but waste your money!

you do realise the gates belts are almost exactly the same price as a genuine nissan belt?

having said that, if its a standard car just use a oem belt

ALWAYS do the tensioners and idlers

a standard one is 100000 kays so another standard one will do another 100000 kays

100% agree with you, definitely replace these. If you do not replace these and the bearing seizes this just rubs on the back of the belt generating massive heat which leads to belt failure. This can turn out to be engine failure. Obviously there are other belt failure modes that can occur but you get the idea. No one will warrant it in cases like this either, nor should they. They need to be changed as per the Nissan or Gates etc recommendations. I know Gates (possibly others too) are offering some timing kits which now include water pumps too but I don't know if there is one for the RB's?

I recently purchased and had installed the Kudos Motorsports 100,000km service kit for the RB25DET (link). Comes with everything you need to do the core 100,000km service. At the time I also did my coolant (plus all other fluids), thermostat and ancillary belts. You can also choose what timing belt you want.
