Hi fellas...

It's time for the first skidpan training day in 2004!!!!!

We've had lots and lots of fun last year, as you can check out these galleries:

SAU Skidpan 20 Sep 2003

SAU Skipdan 15 Nov 2003

SAU Skidpan 16 Nov 2003

SAU Skidpan 20 Dec 2003 (a few pics from Chris only)

What I may suggest for the next one that we have an option of a BBQ at lunchtime.. (woo hoo!) It works this way: we'll need a group who do a morning session (5-6 people), the afternoon group comes in around 11am and set up bbq and start cooking. At 12 or 12.30 to 1pm we'll have a small BBQ together (let the morning guys eat first). Then the afternoon group take their turn doing the training while the morning guys cook some more food for the afternoon group and help packing/cleaning up....

Considering this I'm thinking around 20 (Sat) or 21 (Sun) February to "recruit" enough participants for the training day... Cost is $120 which you spend your day with a qualified instructor from Driver Dynamics. Hardly any tyre wear, you won't smash your car against anything, and less chance of breaking anything in your beloved ride.

Please register your interest here, and these are welcomed for all returning or new comers to the training program.... places are filling up fast.....

I'm interested, so put me down. But one question & excuse my ignorance, but is this more of a thrash session {alla' MINES_DATSUN} or do we actually learn how to control, drive the cars? I take it we can bring anycar? I was thinking the GTR or the E55 or both :D?

Honestly I have no idea of the trash session u mention. However, you'll learn lots about car control and sideway drifting in this course. You can bring any car, a RWD E55 would be easier to drift than an AWD GT-R of course, and much more fun. But you can bring ur GT-R before as we had one previously. Takes different approach to drift a AWD.

Yeah man Whens the next one after this? I'm so strapped for cash at the moment because of drifting lol. So i wanna do it in a controlled environment. Also it is technically owned by my parents business and is registered under my mums name do i need to bring a Statutory declaration, and do we need helmets?

thanks,

Rom

Rom,

No helmets required. In regards to joint ownership on the car, I have seen cases where people who use company cars normally would be required to sign a statutory declaration stating that the company allows him/her to use the car in such car course. So I'd suppose you'll need to bring a letter of approval from the registered owner, giving you permission to let you use the car.

It's definitely in a controlled environment, all user level welcome (beginner to advance) as the instructor will sit beside you and giving you instruction according to your level and speed of progress. All cars welcome (RWD/FWD/AWD, Skylines/Silvia/WRX/Gemini/BMW/Merc/Supra/Porsche/Lotus etc.)

The only restriction is we can't have extremely loud car on the venue which is 150m away from residential. So no open exhaust or straight pipes, anyone with such exhaust should do something about it before joining (even just attaching a tip silencer for 4 hours of this session should help).

Pending on my car's availability (will be spending a fair bit of time going back and forth between workshops) I'd like to try out some new skills I've aquired after watching and practicing the Drift Bible DVD.

Cooks44, you're added. We had many stock cars before (including mine) and we had no trouble drifting.

Anyone object if we do this on Sat Feb 21st 2004? The reason is that you can

have a day rest on the Sunday, as it can be tiring for some...

    • yeah i agree paint match stops it from standing out so much, oh that's actually really good to know i was wondering if it would help with air flow now actually having an outlet in the bonnet. Will have to focus on ducting into and out of the radiator now to make the most of it.
    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
