I've had an old second hand HKS Super Dragger on my R33 GTST for ages. I was pulled over and told to have VicRoads check the middle muffler as it is 95-100mm off of the ground. I figure I may as well sort it out properly so it isn't an issue again. I was thinking of just having the centre muffler cut out and replaced with a new resonator making sure it is a legal height. I figure that that is going to be approx $200 to do and maybe it's worth replacing the whole catback with a new one? :)

I want something quiet that exits straight out the back, no angled mufflers.

I've been searching through a lot of old threads but a lot of the time they are quite old threads and/or there are no great pics of them installed after they've been discussed etc. The other thing is some threads look like they are straight and another angled and they say they are the same exhaust?? So I'm basically after some clarification of what's what, a few suggestions and experiences to help me with my decision.

The following catbacks seem like what I want but can't confirm if all of them exit straight or if they come with drone issues (although I guess drone will be more car/mod dependent). Feel free to suggest another brand etc if you think it meets my needs.

Trust Power Extreme 2, seen some good reviews for these

Fujitsubo Legalis R

Blitz Nur Spec RX (might be too loud?)

and finally a custom made exhaust.

I'm located in SE Melbourne so if you end up suggesting the custom route then let me know of a good workshop. Is there a Kermit (Exhaust maker from the West) clone here over in the East?

I have seen the images of this Fujitsubo exhaust but I think they are well and truly discontinued now though :D Pretty sure it was MintR33 who has/had one of these years ago.

I already have a 3" bellmouth dump and 5" Catco CAT.

Thanks

I would get an exhaust shop to replace the center muffler, then get them to change the rear section to make it straighter and add twin 2" tips.

If police dont see a cannon they are less likely to pull you over.

And you could get away with the change of exhaust for under $500.

Thanks, so Trust PEII looks like it is off the list for now.. If anyone has a behind shot of their R33 GTST with one of these or any of these other exhausts, even if angled then you may as well post em as you may end up changing my mind.

I forgot to add the following exhaust options.

Kakimoto Regu 06&R (N21307)

&

Kakimoto.R (NS309) - haven't seen much info on these.

Just found them on the Kakimoto website, might help someone else with this info being in the one spot.. Kakimoto ECR33 exhausts

Kakimoto.R looks like it exists straight, still can't really be 100% whether Regu 06&R exits angled or straight. Kaki.R has more bent pipe at the end so me thinks 06&R would exit angled as it doesn't have as much of a bend.

After a bit more searching the Fujitsubo Legalis R looks like it the same exhaust for R33 GTST & GTR and exits straight Fujitsubo Legalis R It's either that or standard R33 GTST's actually came out with 228kw

Still not sure if the Not sure if the Blitz Nur Spec R/RX exhausts exit straight or angled?

Cross the Trust off the list. It exits sideways, and although its quiet cruising, its louder then an HKS Hi Power at full noise.

yeah thats about right. although, if you dont give it stick, you'll drive past cops without a worry. it is over the dB limit though.

here's how a Trust sits on a r33

how about going a custom 3-3.5 catback with a large rear muffer? ive just put a huge magnaflow rear muffler on mine, 4inch muffler in/out all stainless on my custom 3 inch system, really deep note, quite loud though at full noise.

I would defiatly say kakimoto are the best exhauts going around but are such a hefty price. I have a kakimoto R and they have a large centre muffler that only gives off sound at high RPM and its a VERY deep bass grunty sound and is not very loud at all which is good too keep cops away. Also its a rear muffler and not a common cannon so the cop wouldnt look twice at it.

Its also a high flowing exhaust so its a ok for street performance :)

skline01999 said he get resanation with the kakimato regu 06 its basiclly a Kakimoto R but instead a rear muffler its got a cannon thats all and yeah any skyline with just a cannon always gets resanation =\

Look into Kakimoto!

Sorry mate, i have no camera at the moment as my misses has it at the moment and i wont see her till friday.

Its shiny, has a kakimoto logo plate spot welded onto muffler tip, the tip is 4.5" large. A high quality stainless steel so it does not change colour or rust (been a year since on). Very quiet exhaust, is about 87Db at its highest peak, and normal driving just a deep bass tone. Pretty large centre muffler which is why its so quiet. High flowing and street legal so you get the best out of a exhaust.

Once its installed the tip is angled up very slightly and sticks out level with the stock rear bar. Cost for me was $750 + $22 for Kakimoto exhaust gaskets and about $90 fitting if you cant fit it.

I found another picture but someone has taken out the centre muffler, Probily because it make the system really quiet but with it off its would be a awesome flowing cat back.

personally, i have a trust PE2 and i think its pretty quiet (also free flowing).

video of a PE2 from a member on here:

i think its pretty hard to find a legal aftermarket exhaust, i got my stock car tested when it had a factory catback system and it read 89dB..

I heard only good things about the Kakimoto Regu 06&R aswell..

Thanks for the pics, I saw the pics of that exhaust somewhere in one of the threads. As far as I could tell it is actually an ER33 NA exhaust, NS310, according to the Kakimoto listings.

I think I am tossing up between the Kakimoto.R (NS309) & Fujitsubo Legalis R.. I think the Fujitsubo will look a little cleaner as from the very vague photos I've been able to find the rear muffler looks rounded. The Kakimoto one has the flat square end. I don't know if you really see this much though as the tip looks quite long on the ones in the pic you posted so it could be basically out of view?

I haven't really noticed too many companies that stock Fujitsubo though. They appear to be quite a bit dearer than the Kakimotos from what I've seen. I don't know if I've come across anyone stocking the Kakimoto R either come to think of it, all Regu 06&R's.

AWW man totaly forgot about the turbo being there  haha

In that case your looking at N21307 (The regu, which is nice but you will have a put a resinator somewhere because you will most likely encounter drone)

Another Kakimoto that comes built for a skyline is the Kakimoto Racing Full Mega N1, seeing as its rated at 93Db and the regu 06 is 92Db there isnt any volume difference, just the mega N1 has a resinator instead of muffler to eliminate drone.

other than that man Fujitsubo is the way

It can come down to your modifications, being turbo you are blessed and have no drone like a NA using a cannon :)

like i said may encounter drone in my last thread once i recongnised it was a turbo (disregard most of the ones before that last on) ........... Pretty pointess restricting your system to a 70mm Kakimoto R :D

Regu looks awesome by the way, i didnt notice the titanium looking tip

(Skline01999)If you dont mind me asking, have you had your Db ever tested on the system???

Apparently it should sit around 92Db on a regu 06 which is about 12Db more than the Kakimoto R and seeing its on my NA i should be a bit louder but like i said the muffler does quieten everything down very well and if i had a regu 06 it would be way over the 92Db mark.

I am steering more towards the following two..

Kakimoto.R (NS309) or Fujitsubo Legalis R (790-15075). Can't really get any great photos to show exactly what they look like which makes it pretty hard to make a final decision. I guess I now need to try and find some good prices for these options.

I can see quite a few people selling Kakimoto's but not many seem to deal with Fujitsubo. I figured I'd put it to the people and see if any of you know of any good places check with. So hit me with your suggestions.

If you are in the SE suburbs, head down to Sabbadin Automotive and have him make you a custom system. The Jap exhaust on my GTR was loud and did drone. We tried a few different combos and now my car sounds great but has no drone at all and still flows as much as the loud Jap system.

Give him a call hand ask him about the mufflers we used on Dave's Black GTR, he will know what you are talking about.

Cheers

Dave
