Hi all,

Went for quick drive this morning, I noticed it's overboosting now (usually read 0.6 kg/cm boost on Nismo Combination meter), it is overboosting to 0.65 kg/cm roughly cos I backed off the second i see the needle went over 0.6.

So my question, would leaking exhaust manifold gasket cause overboosting?

Cheers

unlikely. The noise is normally more noticable when its cold due to expansion when it gets hot.

As for broken studs, its unlikely on a GTR. GTSt's do it as the manifold is one piece and they warp causing the studs to snap. Given GTR's have 2 manifolds its a lot less common. BUT, the studs on GTR turbo's do loosen themselves off and cause the turbo to come loose on the manifold. If one is loose you will be able to move it around with a little help from a prybar. But obviosuly be careful what you lever off.

We had this problem a while ago at work and i cant for the life of me remember what caused it.....

About these, should I worry too much or?

Will have a look @ exhaust area later and check.

If all else fails, off to mechanic I go.

edit: Just had a look at engine bay for manifold bolts, can't see any cos the heat shields are covering whole area.

I'm still baffled at this problem... And I've run out of things to look out for.

Damnit, i remembered the 2 manifolds today...lol...but you corrected me b4 i had a chance to redeem myself... :bunny:

Hi all,

I just got home from Status today, Trent (who is a champ once again!) couldn't determine if I've blown a turbo wheel or not cos I don't have a cataylic converter to catch the shredding metal though.

Last night, I popped in, Trent went through the cramped engine bay, disconnecting one wastegate and see if it's over boosting or not. Rear turbo did but front didn't.

Trent listened to whole engine bay, plugged consult port to read AFM voltage, it appears all is dandy except for a whining sound from the turbos.

In conculson, Trent thinks front turbo may be broken, so I won't be driving this money pit for a while until I source replacment turbo (hopefully 34 N1), so will be buying new gaskets, studs and 100,000km service kit at same as turbo replacment.

Lastly, I'd like to say thanks to all whoever helped me in this thread, also many thanks to Trent @ Status for squeezing me in on his busy schedule.

Now, I'm going to put my wallet on diet!

Cheers

Brett,

Seen these, I am in negotiation with a pair of N1s from QLD at the moment.

Thanks for the link anyway, will keep these in mind if it falls through.

Hi all,

Bit of a update, I decided to start it today.

On the start up, I noticed it is bit too loud (or I haven't started it since last Tuesday and forgotten what it sounds like?), on idle, it reads at 1,300rpm. After few minutes, I noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust I turned the car off straightway idle speed went down to 1,100rpm.

So, white smoke coming out from exhaust means the turbo is shot?

wanna swap, i have a nice simple gtst, i'll even throw in the 3540 set up that i cbf putting on atm :(

I think between what happened and trents thoughts i think its time for a new turbo, personaly i think that the lack of oil smoke at start up is because oil is thicker when cold, after warming up it would flow more freely throw worn bearings and seals.

Hmm... That does make sense.

I have pair of N1 on way to me and still hunting for PFC. Also buy new gaskets + studs and 100k service kit while I'm at it.

Anyone have PFC (would be nice to have HC) want to sell it to me?

And thanks to whoever posted on this topic.

Cheers
