Huge cams for that turbo and engine setup!

Cams are working quiet nicely on this set up and sound awesome

330rwkw @ 16psi up top & then drops to 300rwkw @ 20psi up top on the 2nd graph (4psi more, 30rwkw less!) - If nothing else was changed that is very interesting!

Not 100% sure if anything else was changed, i know i dont have to rev past 7 the way it is set up at the moment

Will be going in for more fine tuning before nationals as this was done just before WTAC

all in all very happy with the car

Just read the whole thread, all 14 pages. Good read, it helped me realize that 9's is what I should be running due to using my r33 GTR as a daily and not yet chasing insane power figures.

That said, I think I remember reading g that 9's do not come with actuators? What ones do you guys reccomend and why?

  • 1 month later...

great thread , helped me a lot in choosing turbos

i am about to buy pair of this ones : GT2860R - 739548-9

are these those super responsive 9s you guys are talking here?

it has 64 rear and 60 front and stated that its bolt on for rb26 .

is there any major difference between 739548-9 and 707160-9

turbo part number gurus help would be great

thx

it is bolt on , this is what it says : Turbine wheel is cast from "Inconel" material for extreme applications, Essentially a GT2860RS Disco Potato turbo with a GT2560R compressor housing , Upgrade turbocharger for GT2554R (PN 471171-3) and GT2854R (PN 471171-9)

430609-230 0.64 Wastegated T25 5-Bolt - rear housing

i am just all confused with all this part numbers, just wanna know if these are 9s that this thread is about? or this ones are more like 5s or 7s?

thx

Dato

sorry should have been more specific.

The part number you quoted first is the '2860-9' turbo with the SR20 style flange, BUT this turbo with with the option 430609-230 exhaust housing is what your after (i.e. the -9 of this thread). The correct turbo part numbers for the rb26 are a few posts above.

Ok these are specs after search on garret

739548-9 446179-66 47.20 60.10 62 0.60 53.90 76 0.64

707160-5 446179-51 47.20 60.10 62 0.60 53.90 76 0.64

707160-9 446179-65 44.50 59.40 56 0.42 53.90 62 0.64

So i am looking on more like 5s right? just shra's have different part numbers rest is same . shit already purchased them :) so i got lugy big turbos for my stock engine

when i saw 9 at the end i thought thats the ones i need

wedge_r34gtr

what you are saying is that these are 2860-9s for sr20 but with different exhaust to suit rb26 its still the ones i was looking for?

could you plz take a look numbers above and would you still thing that those are 9s for rb26 ?

sorry for my english as well :)

mmm... my garatt catalogue has the wrong part number for -9's.

The 707160-9 is what you were after. Email the shop and make sure thats what your getting. I don't think these come with actuators either...

This thread should be pinned and name changed to "Garrett turbos for RB26's -5 vs -7 vs -9" or something.

Probably would be really useful to most GTR owners looking for advice and results on which turbos to go for. All of this is great info is in one spot (Aside from the RB26 turbo upgrade results thread).

Heck i'd been trying to decide for a while reading a million different posts and sources on other websites, this thread educated me and made my decision.

Hey guys,

Just went on nengun and it reads that HKS have changed the compressor wheel, compressor housing and turbo housing. Not sure if its fibs or not?! Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers

No reason to think they fibbing, they are aftermarket turbos after all. Wouldn't be too popular if they had the same specs as stockers.

You are not doing english correctly. All that says is this:

Compared to stock turbos, they are larger.

It is NOT SAYING that "GT-SS" are magically bigger than "Garrett -9s", which share the same part number.

Not doing English correctly?! At no point did I mention that they are magically bigger. I am basically only asking whether this sentence:

The clearance and shape of the compressor wheel, compressor housing and turbo housing are redesigned to optimum specs.

Means that HKS have done more then just put their actuators on garrett -9s?

This may not be 100% accurate but it's close enough: HKS used the -7 and redesigned the compressor wheel and tweaked other small things and called them GT-SS. Garrett made these turbos for HKS (with HKS stamped compressor covers) without actuators (because HKS fitted their own adjustable actuators) for 5 years until the deal between them expired which allowed Garrett to sell that turbo to the public which they called the 707160-9 (or -9 for short). For acouple years now, HKS GT-SS kits have been coming with Garrett stamped compressor covers. Difference between the HKS and Garrett stamped cover in the GT-SS kits? Nothing, just the old kits have HKS covers, and new ones have Garrett covers.

And we can clearly see the mark up due to having a big jap name on something.

Mr meanR you however have to cap your anger, this is a internet forum and we are not mind readers. If you want something then you have to be detailed and precise. So just go and buy the pretty hks units oh I mean garrett.

Cheers Lance, so just to confirm, do the GTSS's still carry different internal specs over the -9s? I understand there the same size and the compressor covers are the same stamped regardless. Cheers mate

Hadouken, at not point did I get angry, my apologies if you think otherwise. Was just replying to a response.

    • Car looks clean as. You ended up getting quite a bit done 😂  So what's the plan for the exhaust?
    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
    • Are you talking about the oil squirters? There is only one place for them to go. Yes, you have to drill the holes. Yes you have to obtain the correct oil squirters (I presume there is some sort of aftermarket option available, because original turbo ones are going to be a diminishing resource).
