The original reply was that it is legally possible to have made a decent amount of money before you are 25. it is possible no matter how much you earn as long as you have a job and a mind set.

1st gen Aussies have the huge advantage of seeing our parents poor all their lives so know how important it is to get out of the poverty cycle.

I pity the generation who were bought up in a fairly comfy home and did not see the struggle of their grandparents in making a life in the greatest country on Earth. Until you realise that a struggle builds a future, then it is very hard to make tough decisions for your future benefit.

Well said Dom - hard work and being smart gets you there, eventually - not everyone well off has been born with a silver spoon in their mouth, inherited money, is a drug dealer or has won a lottery jackpot.

If you have a goal in life you will get there sooner or later.

Hey there avid enthusiasts.

Im a new member (logged in 10 min ago).

Was reading these posts because I had a question regarding GTR pricing.

Read all your posts here (most of it kinda is discouraging in buying a depreciating expensive car) I dont really want to tap into my logical side and spend my money on an investment property.

Anyway my quesiton is. I was thinking of buying a new GTR. I never liked the idea of buying second hand esp presumed tracked and hard launched cars.

Here is the problem.

The car on road is $182,000

Is this normal? The FTG dealership in melbourne says it is. Thats their price. No negotiating. This strikes me as odd. They have 2-3 unsold GTRs and despite the manager claiming they get 15 querries a week, its not like they have 15 buyers a week. So..why is he playing hardball with the price when I would think hes struggling to move the cars?

Did you guys pay this much for a new GTR?

I know that magazines and internet retail the car at $150k but the driveaway price is $182k.

So yeah I guess my questions are...

IS the car retailing now at $182k?

What did YOU pay for the car brand new?

Was their negotiating involved?

They also claim the 2011 GTR will be even more expensive but they have no idea how much more. So ...the pricing is getting a little silly now.

if you can't afford to buy both (supercar and an investment property), then don't buy the super car yet. Anyone can put $40k deposit and the finace company owns the rest. Borrow on property if you have to, but NEVER borrow on cars unless it is under a company and the companies tax can offset some of the costs... but even then buying it outright is still the better choice.

Over-simplifying things Dominic^, it is not possible for every kid to do that. You can't declare the process that simple when not everyone has those opportunities because of a different set of cards they were dealt in life from birth...

yes he over simplified the scenario, but most kids can do it in Australia, easily 90% can do it IF they are dedicated and have someone to advise them. unless you are severly handicapped, spend every pay check, have to work to support your family, then there isn't much else stopping someone from buying something small from a younger age.

Lazy, missguided or circumstances out of your controll are the only real reason that makes this scenario impossible. This is Australia, not USA.

back on topic, i dont see the point of this thread

of course the car will depreciate

you always lose the lct, stamp duty and gst that goes to the government as soon as you drive out of the showroom

By 21 despite being only a 4th year apprentice, earn $1100 per week after tax (as a chef), plus $200 week from Rental of 1st property.

Mortgage 1st property (now paid off and worth $200k) and receive $100k deposit to buy 4 bed, 2 bath ,double garage home in Glenmore park leased for $520 per week.

I just remembered this today while at work and I gotta ask, how the hell does a 4th year apprentice chef at 21 earn $70-$80k? I know full time qualified chefs that work bulk hours a week and get no where near that so whats the go?

$1100/w after tax as an apprentice chef... that makes no sense...

Remember guys that top restaurants receive huge tips. So its $52k pa plus $300 in set amount of tips per week to equal $1100 pw net. (This is only $15 per hour which is less than the award rate)

A gifted 4th year apprentice is more valuable than 99% of your chef de commis. She is considered a chef de partie and has 4 chef de commis and an apprentice who work under her.

When youre considered the top fish chef in one of the top Restaurants in OZ and have been written about by Gordon Ramsay and most australian food writers and have cooked for george bush, John howard, Kevin Rudd and most of the major entertainers who visit Australia plus you work

Mon-Thurs 12 noon to 12 midnight and Fri- sat 10-00 am to 2.00 am, then you deserve a large salary.

She feels totally ripped off, as her older brother (25) has no qualifications or degrees and is a part time band conductor at primary schools and gets $110 per hour and only works 3 hours a day 5 days per week, to make more money than her.

Ok fair enough, but then she obviously isn't your average 21-22 year old and hence the reason she can afford to pay repayments on two house loans.

Her identical twin sister is a full time uni student but works 3/5 of a full time job, (IE 3 days a week) same story bought an investment unit when she was 19.

Now earns $400 per week and owes about $85k on a unit worth $200+ k.

Its simple spend very little. Her car is a 5 year old Yaris. She does nothing to it but buy Petrol, she carries out her own services and when she upgraded her stereo ($85 on ebay) she looked up youtube and followed the instructions to fit it herself.

It doesnt matter how much you earn, its how much you save.

Every kid is capable of earning over $100 per week from 15-20.

Compound interest makes that about $40k at 21.

Buy the crappiest property you can, so that the tenant pays off the loan for you.

How did they get loans from the bank with no security? Im guessing another factor played in the story whereby the parents house/investment property came as a the security for the loans? Cause banks arent too keen to hand out loans to kids with only a car under their belts...

Sorry which loan are you talking about that has been borrowed without security?

I thought the loan was to purchase the investment property for which the kid has saved $40k as a deposit.

So the bank provided a loan with just a 10% deposit of the house? (assuming $400k~) I thought banks would need some security other than the deposit because once thats spent on the purchase what can the bank take if the person loses their job etc?

Genuine question because I am in the same boat and I have a feeling I will need to use parents' house as security to get a loan approved.. Interested to hear.
