mist, unless they are leaking will you really get any performance benefit from rebuilding the calipers???

I rebuilt my calipers purely because the the pistons didnt seem to be retracting 100% when i lifted off the pedal...this resulted in the pads constantly rubbing on the rotors, After the rebuild all is good and no whirring/rubbing noises from pads.

The offspring of drifto and my cars would be a pretty well setup R32 :( ...

Hi guys, the four spot callipers on Skylines need to be very carefully bled, it is way easy to not get all the air out of the system. Air in the lines or callipers means soft and/or low pedal.

As for rebuilding callipers, you would be surprised at the amount of gunk that builds up inside the callipers. Brake fluid is hygroscopic (attracts water) so rust and other oxidation is not unusual. You can also get scoring of the bores which can cause the pistons not to travel straight. In a multi piston calliper this means that not all of the pad pushes on the rotor at the same time. So just because they aren't leaking, doesn't mean they don't need servicing.

Hope that helps

err... yeah what sydneykid said !! haha..

I bought GT-R calipers from a wrecker, and after a rebuild kit + careful cleaning & fresh coat of paint, caliper is as good as new. The point raised about bleeding air out of the system is very true, as from my own experience there can be still air waiting to be bled out even after you think you're done..
