heyhey,

i need some help, now this is out of the ordinary, but im modding a hyundai excel,

theres only one reason.. its unexpected

im just curious where is the best place to find mods for this type of car, because not many people have done it before,

not many companys make mods for excels, compared to skylines and silvias.

if anyone could give me a few.. auto shops, which deal in body work, engine work

please let me know :)

Step 1: Don't bother

Step 2: Repeat

I have seen a performance car mag with a 'hotted up' excel in it before, but the guy had sunk over $10k into it (excluding the initial purchase price) and it still had less power than a bog standard r33, and was comparable to a bog standard late model corolla sportivo. If you must do it, ok, but don't expect a sleeper at the end. Especially on a skyline forum.

haha i dont mind hey, i just want it to be a headturner, with a bit of power, but with more focus on the looks,

i mean, where are you gonna use 598kw (reference to a 220k 33gtr) of power, if its a road car?

I'd try to take the focus away from the looks if I were you. Essentially, you'll end up with a head-turner, but for the wrong reasons. Having it pull an 11 sec pass at the strips in front of a crowd will turn heads. Covering it in stickers and a bodykit will turn stomachs.

Trust me, after you sink money into it, you'll just wish you'd bought a better base car to begin with. I have a gtst that cost as much as a good 33gtr would these days, but I can't sell it, because it ain't worth shite. You'll feel exactly the same way when you realise your excel is too slow and ugly to put next to the big boys.

Difference is, I can buy parts EASILY.

EXACTLY! but i make 350 a week, and im 17.. i cant save money for sh|t, and its my first car

the next car i plan to buy is a 33 gtst/ or a s13 silvia, and doo a bit to that, but every car ill have, from now to the future will be modified.

just thought i'd get some experience with a cheap car, instead of going straight to the r33, with the "supposedly" expensive running and maintaining costs, ill eventually own mah dream car, which is the 34 gtr, but ill start at the bottom and move up i guess :)

i just want the excel to make a sweet sound, if the already twin 3inch cannon doesnt already :D the power doesnt bother me atm hey, i just want the looks, and an excel, done right, i reckon can stand a chance against your skylines, silvias etc.

also i want it done cause of the.. unique value.. how many excels have you seen modded?

Take it from me man, look at my car.

I get funny looks, some people like my car, some people hate my car, but nothing is better than fkn owning some bogan dickhead in a tryhard SS commodore, in something unexpected - my car has the power to eat most cars on the road and its pretty cool, especially from a soccer mum's car.

Imagine how small a bogan v8 lover with his unit and southern cross stickers would feel after getting owned by an excel...

As someone said before, don't touch the body and if you want it to be something half respectable, I would go for a turbo kit at a minimum and keep it stock appearance-wise. Get in touch with a decent workshop and talk to them about it. I'd suggest getting a decent ball bearing turbo, IIRC they are 1.6L 4 bangers, so nothing bigger than a 2871, and run light boost with an exhaust and fuel system to suit, but word of advice, it wont be cheap, nor easy, most stuff would need to be custom made...

the paints hell sunburnt, hopefully some tafe, will do a cheap, and i hope! and okay job :)

ill have to ring around very soon about some kits and such, i dont care how much is spent hey, i dont have any other expenses :D

ill have a look into the turbo a bit more.

Well at least you're honest. And not a little dipshit. Most newbies would have called us fags by now and threatened to come beat us up.

Look, don't mod your first car. Especially putting a loud exhaust on an excel. It's been done to death, and will never turn heads. Or sound good.

It will however make the cops pull you over. Costing you fines. And fine dollars are better put into a jar for your next car.

Here's a suggestion, start saving for the next car and leave this one as an A to B. Excels are quite good at that. They are not good at being modified.

I'm on my 5th car, and if I wasn't saving for a house and wedding, I'd be selling it too for something better. But this is the first car I've ever modified, because it's the only one that can be modified well. But the GTR, well that'd mod even better.

By the time you're on your Xth car, r35's may be affordable. R34's were $100k when I got my 33gtst, now I can actually afford to buy one, with cash, at around $40k. Just don't get a wife and you'll be sweet. And still be willing to buy depreciating assets when you've reached the age when you can afford to. Again, no wife will help with this....

haha well you fellas did crush a little hope haha.

everyone says i should save for a second, third or whatever car, and thats probably the best decision, i might buy another run about car, keep the excel garaged and mod it, ill keep the second car as a daily drive, and the excel, as a bit of a special, weekend drive.

holy shit, where the 34's really 100k?!

what do you guys think of that idea?

And keep in mind that turbo x-trail's car started with an sr20. That makes life easier. But even then I'm willing to bet it's too top heavy for most performance lovers. (no offence man)

a guy from WTF auto, in WA mentioned something about a 2 litre 4 cyl engine being able to fit in the engine bay of the excel, if its possible,

reckon it would be worth it? instead of the 1.5 stock?

X-Trails are fkn awesome! I love your build. X-Trail GT = hot.

On a more serious note and because you didn't select troll, I wouldn't turbo it right away. From what I remember of driving an excel, it under steered like crazy. I'd focus on suspension, weight reduction and do the usual NA mods, CAI, extractors, exhaust, etc.

As turbo xtrail said, don't do too much to the body to remain respectable. But may I suggest real carbon fibre. CF Kit, boot, hood (I don't think it's legal though), mirrors. Light weight rims not too big, good brakes and coilovers, put on a bit of camber - fix that understeer!!

Get rid of everything in the interior that's wasted weight, the sound deadening under the carpet adds quite a bit of weight.

As where to get any parts, honestly I have no idea. There's a reason why people don't mod these cars, I can think of a handful of similar cars (and price range) which scale a lot better in terms of engine modification.

Not really. Power in a FWD car is annoying to be honest. It'll put a few others to shame in a straight line (as a magna did to me a few years back) but your bragging rights are pointless if the car is no fun for you to drive.

But, do what you want. I never listened to all the people telling me to stop buying cars when I was younger, and now when I do the math I've flushed a good $100k into cars over the years, and nothing to show for it, so who am I to judge.

Don't worry, I'm sure other people will read this thread tomorrow and judge you. And judge you HARD! Right in the face!

well i mean in a straight line they should be too bad, its cornering that they have issues..

i mean i love driving, even with the stock excel, and since the exhaust was fitted i love it even more

haha this is gonna sound stupid, but im gonna own a nice car before i have a house :)
