Hey guys,

A month after I have finished my R33 gts4 stagea s1 conversion and I have run into some trouble L. My car seems to shut off when it is warm. I checked my coolant and was surprised to see an ugly brown/corroded liquid in my radiator as I changed the coolant a month ago, I quickly checked the oil and was grateful to see just oil and no milky colours J (cracked head). So I decided to flush the system.

I removed the radiator and ran a hose through that. Then I took off one of the heater hoses (firewall) and ran a garden hose through it and that seemed to get rid of the brown colour. I noticed however that the bottom hose of the radiator was leaking a bit of water when I was flushing it. At this stage I was concerned about my thermostat as it should be closed when the car is off/not warm correct?

I still decided to continue as I did not know if I was correct or not. So I connected everything back up, put a bit of coolant through the block, connected the radiator and filled that up as well. The car ran fine until the temperature gage started to slowly clime. The car started idling weirdly with revs dropping up and down; I quickly thought of air bubbles and opened the bolt. This was unsuccessful and the car shut off. There seems to be little pressure in the bottom radiator hose but not much and I am leaning towards the thermostat not the water pump. I am still running a Non turbo radiator however all mechanics/wreckers believe it is fine for know but I am still planning to get a aluminum radiator.

If I was to remove the bottom metal pipe from the block were the thermostat is will it destroy the gasket? Anyone got any ideas???

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

I have upgraded the fuel pump to a walbro. I have had this tested by a local mechanic and take his word that it is fine. I took the car for a drive before and seemed to be running fine with a low temperature reading however there is squeeking coming from the motor. I have ran out of light so tomorrow I will check out the belt (one spinning the fan) perhaps it is not operating the waterpump properly due to slipping.

Seems as though my alternator came loose. However I was driving it after and took it for a good boot. After when I opened my bonnet my overflow bottle was almost full and there seemed to still be bubbles in it. So bleed the system for two hours and it still did not get rid of all the air. I've just baught a radiator off ebay and I am going to get the engine proffesionally flushed, hopefully this solves it :)

after doing some work on my own car an started it the idle was up then down then stall an not responding to throttle an all mine was is that i had left one vacuum/pollution gear hose off so deffinatly check that.. just an idea...
