Hi, I've found another car that some of you may be keen on.... however, this car was at Edward Lees before it made it to auction.. go figure :bunny:

You guys can clearly see build plate at the one minute mark or so 186/400 :)

EDIT: Is that a mismatched bonnet I see?

I love them but i wouldn't buy a private import one, in australia they are worth a fraction of the price an aussie delivered 22b would get, fake km's, no books, no spare keys, it's an Edward Lee car.

Then again in 30 years time it'll be worth sending back to japan to sell it there and make a pretty penny with their enthusiasts.

i'd pay $80k for one of the OZ delivered ones with full service history, 100% original parts, full key set, great condition, genuine low milage. I wouldn't consciously pay more than $40k for that car especially when there is no history at all, for all we know it's been written off and some smart guy has repaired it and shipped it over here.

I know you can get an import in aswell Cheff, but the fact is an OZ delivered just got $90k, I'd rather the OZ delivered at that price than an import pushing $70-$80k purely because you will definately get your money back later.

0% picking one up? there was an OZ delivered 22b at either mosman or double bay for sale last month or month before for $90k, service history and prestine condition. (aparently it was OZ delivered).

I started looking into them when an old guy drove one to visit my neighbour a few months ago. An import 22b as an investment is a fail.

10 year old performance car costing $70k with no history isn't worth that price, but if you really want one and your not fussed about resell then your not fussed about price, in which case you might aswell offer $200k for the car...

Same thing with exotic imports, for starters they are worth alot less, 2nd they usually have major problems as they dont have service records and their is no history of the car, 3rd they are next to impossible to sell (unless its for race use or you find a cashed up sucker to buy it).

It's like getting one of our OZ delivered 22b's and sending it to Japan to sell, it will always be worth allot less than the original jap ones they have there.

if someone wants to pay that for a car - let them

they're getting a decent price for a rare car

A neat 22b in Japan still sells for 3.5-4 million yen as a minimum (for one worth having) so that's a purchase price of $50k ish just in Japan, before you pay freight, duties and so on. For me, a good one is worth every bit of $70k for if it popped up, but I have lusted after a 22B for the last 12 years so in my eyes, they're very desireable car.

Normally I'd be inclined to agree with locally delivered models being worth more - this is certainly the case with the 2 door version 5 STI which was offered in 1999, we only got 399 of them. But in Japan, the 2 door STI is nothing special as it was just another car available in the Subaru lineup. However in the case of the 22b, there were only 400 of them made available world wide and god knows how many have been rallied into the ground by now. Hand made alloy widebody guards, stroked motor, DCCD and that fat stance.. I'd give my left nadular for one :kiss: I wouldn't care if the car came from Antarctica originally, they're a car that's going to be worth very big dollars in the future in my humble opinion!

You're right in respect of those Aussie ones having a greater value locally, but the truth is there were only 4 brought to Australia - one of which is owned by Nick Senior (Subaru Aust CEO) and the others in the hands of some very very lucky buggers! I'd honestly rather save the $20-30k and buy an import as I'd HAVE to use the car on a regular basis - but spending $90k on a car like that, I'd be inclined to do minimal KMs to preserve it's value down the track.

What I do think though, is that the collectibility of these cars on an international level in years to come will be the primary driver of their value. Their rarity will drive the demand and it will be the condition of the car, not the country it was delivered in that's going to matter.

Now I just need to win lotto, get my hands on one and wait :rofl:

I think someone at DOTARS must own one, that's why they introduced the rule of only permitting one personal import every 5 years instead of every 12 months - reduces their competition!

The one you refer to at Double Bay was the one at Vaucluse, I think you will find, and it was a recently arrived Japanese import.

There was an Australian delivered one sold through a dealer in North Sydney about 2 years ago and that went for over $100,000.

Wow the car got passed in at $59k, guess you guys were wrong wern't you, import 22b's are worth even less than I even thought it was going to get at auction, I thought it would hit atleast $63 because of excited enthusiasts. I still don't think it's worth more than $40k + transfer, auction fee, rego, ect... so something around $50k all up is what it is worth maximum in todays climate in this country.

I wouldn't have put a car like that through auction personally, it's such a specific type of market and customer, you've just got to sit on your hands until the right person comes along. Like selling a historic or classic car - to the right person, they're worth the money. Plenty of people want them but can't justify the price for what would be a sunday driver.

I agree with IM. There was a GTHO Phase III that went through Shannons and it only fetched $331,000. Seller was expecting much more as an identical car sold for almost double that last year. There were also talks of other cars that sold for over a mil through private treaty a few years ago.

I'd certainly be pissed if your collectable would only fetch a fraction of what other cars have been selling for in the past..

    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
    • Don't worry about. Just don't try to drive hard enough to make boost and you'll be fine.
    • Yes. This has already been said. It is a loop of hardline in front of the radiator. Because.... the pump is on the LHS and the steering rack hydraulic connections are where they always are on a RHD steering rack....on the RHS. The high pressure line goes down under the engine, along the crossmember, like it does on all Skylines. Don't just throw expensive braided hoses/other kits at it. Work out what is wrong and fix that.
    • Still got the afm on the intake, clamps are shut tight, only loose hose is the one that goes from the j pipe towards the IACV, since it's next to impossible to find a factory hose and the barbs are different sizes (I'm still using clamps on this hose to try and help it seal on the iacv side) I've ordered parts to make up the hotside of the intercooler pipes, I'll plumb it in and see what happens in a few days I suppose The turbo's internally gated, can I just unscrew the tension rod to let the gate open?
