I think he is learning the system as he goes. and yes... I'll speak to the workshop tomorrow to clarify what I would be in for...

As for the bagging... I thought I was being really subjective, slightly annoyed but nowhere close to obscene, explicit languages etc What happened to the customer that was sued successfully? eat humble pie and pay even more?

considering the software is very autronic like... i find it hard to believe its 3 days to tune. unless he wants 3 goes at cold start. and saying that my autronic has ZERO correction for cold start. (big injectors wetting the ports do that just fine..)

not trying to step on any toes here, but 3 days. please... i hope its not going to be a bill for 24hrs@ 300-400hr dyno labour!

quick tip, i wouldnt be hanging shit (especially online) on a company if they have your car..... kinda like shooting yourself in the foot.

Ok so find out if it was just 'we need your car for 3 days' or 'we need to have it on the dyno for 3 continuous days'.

I'd say they would just need the car for 3 days to get cold start right etc.

Even a sloppy tune only takes an hour from start til finish. A good tune depends on the car, tuner, dyno but some can take up to 8hr, some more depending on functions you want.....but 8 hrs would be pretty much the limit as long as there were no major dramas

the same assfaces charged me 4.5k to change a centre bearing install a fuel pump and tune. Im glad those kunce are now out of business!

The Vi-Pec can seem a bit over the top when you do your first one, especially if you were only ever tuning low end ecu's like Power FC & Microtech's etc etc

Since becoming a Vi-Pec dealer and installing many of them it gets easier and easier every time.. I have also found that the cold start that Ray puts in his base maps can offen be left untouched and cold start work fine.

After speaking to the workshop, they have spent one full day on the dyno getting the tps to something 4d map done. They'll need to spend anther day to get the map sensor to rpm map setup.

The reason it needs to be this extensive(apart from the tuner being a perfectionist and is the first time on a gtr, he had previously done one on an evo which didn't have the ITB setup) is because there is only one map sensor in factory ITB setup.

Hence the reason why he was bagging it because it took longer than he had anticipated as well. If it had two map sensors like the power fc or if I was running an aftermarket plenum, then the tps map can be disabled and just do the map sensor to rpm.

I had explained to him that I need the other functions and he agrees that this is the best package(bar the need of CDI in the future due to Vipec's ignition method of wasted spark). He wasn't quite sure what my requirements were so he bagged the product for what he thought my requirements should be.

I doubt that he'd take it as bagging as its as it happened and we both agreed on the outcome. He realises that he should have tried to mount the accusump where I told him to before telling me that it wouldn't fit. He also knows that I was annoyed because of it so we have an understanding there.

Initially I had thought that if he was bagging the vipec coz its too hard since that was all he said on the phone prior to speaking to him again.

At that stage, I was thinking maybe I can fly you over here to do it since there weren't any other options for the Vipec in WA if I didn't want Auto tune, I've been following your threads on the e85 hence the thought. Thank you for belittling me I guess. In response to your comment, I would be complaining too if he was cutting my balls out when I am there for a vasectomy, same result but definitely not what I had wanted.. Actually it wouldn't even get to that stage, if he was pushing to cut my balls off before the operation, I would just tell to cut his own balls if he loves them so much.

Yeah, I know. The world doesn't revolve around me even if I think it should be :rofl:

Jokes aside, my car won't be done until next week as there were other cars that were pushed back one day because of mine, plus a few other other cars that were already scheduled for the week. He said that it took a whole day for the first map, and it may take another day for the second. The third day would more than likely be final checks in the morning and any final touch ups.

I do like the idea of things done properly, so I had given him the go ahead. The one hour autotune that the previous owner went through didn't work out too well at all.

Hope it all works out for you mate, I am not in Australia anymore, I am in Georgia (Eastern Europe) I actually just got home from installing a Vipec GTS Plug in in a R33 GTST, I had it started and a mostly mapped in under 2 hours, if it was not for the boost issues this car is having it would have been fully tuned.

One day to do a 4d map? Damn man... I dunno what he is doing! I would love to know how much this tune ends up costing you, over in NSW I am sure you can get Scottie at Insight to tune your car for well under $1000 and I am sure he would only need the car for a day and one night only for cold start.

But ride it out, see how it goes.. Once this ECU is setup correctly it will be the best mod you have ever done for your car and you will think the wait and cost was definatly well worth it.

The difference between a working tune and an excellent tune rings true here.

Just because something can be "tuned" in a matter of hours to run OK doesn't mean it's better than a in depth tune over a few days in varying conditions etc.

When i dropped my car off for a full tune on my RB25, i was told to collect in 3 days and i was perfectly fine with that. :domokun:

I still haven't got the car back so can't tell you.

The dyno's oxygen sensor broke and they were replacing it when I was there yesterday. At this stage, I am looking at 10-12 hours but I am not quite sure if that is acceptable since I don't want to pay for their learning time or other extra hours due to dyno break downs.

btw, I spoke to the tuner directly since the owner wasn't there yesterday and he said that he has never done one before. So unfortunately, the owner was telling me bs about having done one on the evo

Yeah, I am well aware of the one hour auto-tune gremlins hence the change in workshop and tuner.

Don't mind paying more if I get what I had paid for, I would have been fine if he gave me an hour estimate as oppose to saying we did a FULL day on your car and we need two more days on top.... At this stage I was thinking, I really hope he is not thinking of charging me 8x3 = 24 hours for tuning.. The engine would probably die if its run continuously for that kind of hours doing dyno pulls.

It was good that elite racing provided a real estimate of what it should be at the most. Like I said, there is nothing fancy on the upgrades.... bar the Vipec

wow. i guess only some tuners have the skill to get a car running perfect from scratch in 1 day.... 8 hrs is an awful long time to spend on a tune...

and fyi rb26 using itb needs a tps based tune. (throttle over map) very hard and inacurate if tuning fuel on the map alone.

Can I ask, if you have to take the car to be tuned every time a mod is done and it costs x amount of dollars to do so, why not spend the money on a wide band oxygen sensor and laptop with the appropriate software and learn to do it yourself ? It is part of the whole experience of ownership. You are obviously on a long voyage of discovery here so believe in yourself and do it. If you had the car for a few years and maybe this was the last year of owning it I'd say go ahead and pay someone. This does not seem like the case though so I just hope you don't find yourself in a couple of years wishing you had started to learn the tuning process starting today.

My experience ? Nobody will tune your car as well as you can given enough time. It is your pride and joy, imagine every cell tuned to perfection and it didn't cost you any more than a hired dyno.
