Hey guys i have a random question that i was thinking about today as i passed one. Those guys that sit in there crv's etc with the cameras at the front on the side of the road...are you allowed to park infront of them? i was told by a friend that someone he knows used have them always on his grass, and one day he cracked it and parked infront of him, and the guy got out and said im going to call the cops and he did, then he coped a fine and his lawyer said his allowed to park there. can anyone verify this? thanks

Yer I think they tend to park in places that aren't real close to driveways so that you have no excuse to park in front of it...I don't see why they can't move if you want to park there anyway. But it is interfering with a law enforcing process, blah blah just like flashing your lights at other drivers to warn them of a camera car.

Lol I know of people that did that. He got told to leave. Locked the car and left. Whereis the law saying that you cannot park infront of them? That's ofcourse if your not violating a parking sign.

All I do is honk when I drive by them because they are sleeping most of the time lol what a job

You can't park on Nature strip but if you were to park legally on road just down from it blocking the view of the laser/camera I don't see any problem with that. If I was called I would tell the speed operator to move as other person doing nothing wrong.

I personally HATE the fact that these fines are issued in Victoria Police name as we have nothing to do with them. They are run/operated by private contractor company.

But I thought they were employed by the 5-0? Isn't that how it works? They do the work and get a piece of the action?

I was aware that those operators aren't police officers but being run by private contractors? I didn't expect that. So this is similar to the hoon hotline as I'm told that isn't run by vic pol or any government section either? So if they aren't employed by the state then where would they get the power to fine people for parking in front of them, etc when you are on public roads/property?

As for passing them I always make sure to flip the bird at them

They are contracted (Tenix), this is from the Gov't. Not Police.

You can park infront of them. I've done it before.

Dude was hella pissed as I'd just watched him setup - serves him right really.

Just bowl the camera over with a mower

Graeme, what about the situation where the mobile speed camera car is illegally parked on a nature strip? I see it all the time on Queens Rd, so just wondering if you can possibly contest the fine because the car was illegally parked?

i've always been told this.

if we are not legally allowed to park on the grass, cause its council land, but when they park there you allowed to fight the ticket cause they were parked illegally in the first place.

just what i've been told, but never really looked into it.

but i know of people who got fined for parking on the nature strip outside their house.

The camera operators have special dispensation from council by-laws affecting parking on nature strips, ie. they are allowed to.

It's perfectly legal to park in front of one, so long as you are legally parked. If there is no visible signage there telling you it is illegal to park, then it's perfectly legal (so long as it doesn't fall under any of the other rules such as distances from intersections and so on).

Technically you are not meant to know that the camera is there anyway, so how can you know to not park in front of it?
