Neutral Position Switch

Hey people,

I have a question about my gearbox on my R32 GTs-t...

I'm pretty sure the neutral position switch isn't connected. I think this because firstly I can't enter HICAS diagnostic mode (which requires it to be in neutral), and secondly the rev's don't change when I put it in gear (with the clutch in - it always used to, and my mate's gtst does too)...

... neither of these had a problem until I got my gearbox reco'd.

I just want to know 1) is it important? and 2) is it likely disconnected inside the box? or likely it's the connector on the side of the box?

Any advice on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, they have a neutral switch. The engine's ecu needs to know if the car is in gear or neutral.

Won't get the full IGN advance in neutral, but as the switch is N.O. when in gear, you can forget about it in most situations.

The RPM change is only very very slight, my mates car does it too. I don't get why.

Just wanted to bump this as I'm curious as to how important it is. I've got a Neo in my 33 and since the manual box was previously in a 180, the stock plugs have been cut off. I've reconnected the reverse switch but didn't bother about the neutral position switch as I didn't think it was needed. If I blip the throttle, I can hear the VCT solenoid kick in so that's working okay, is there anything else that may be affected if I leave the switch disconnected?

Neutral switches are usually broken and non-functional on most Nissans anyway.

I didn't think it'd be too important. Surprisingly mine is working but I'll leave it disconnected. Search results turned up issues getting into HICAS diagnostics mode and low load map, nothing to lose sleep over.
