Hey James! Welcome to the forum!

Yeah, I was hoping that this thread will actually pull us Kiwis together in this forum and discuss NZ specific stuff for our v35 and m35! So far, gotta say I've met a lot of nice ppl here! ;)

Anyway, I think I read in another thread that Chris Rogers has some single and double din face plate for the S1 v35 which i think is the same for the m35... not 100% sure so perhaps it's worth checking wif him.

As for fuel, I've been fueling mine with 98 so far as well... Mobil is having that 8c off promo with a car wash so it's pretty good if u need to get a car wash. So James, you've been filling ur car with Gull's 98? Isn't that the one with the bio-fuel or is this a different one that Gull is offering? I've only used Gull once in my previous Mazda 6 but saw that since it's a bio-fuel, not all cars can use it n hence I've stopped since then.

Hey Mike, good news finding this Anycar link.... do update us on how things go! This could be something great for the stereo! :D

Thanks for the heads up on the face plate , ive been searching all night and still cant find any one mention it .. ill give Chris a Pm , but also interested on the Anycar solution too ..

Kiwi Thread is a good idea , like you say specific events and experiences on our own patch :(

The Gull gas , yep its the Bio fuel stuff .. smells a lot different while the engines running and the tail pipes are a lot cleaner too . I did call Team nissan , Takapuna and henderson nissan about the gas 1st and none of them seemed to know anything about bio fuel .. spoke with the service receptions .The henderson guy said " oh Ethonal fuel - that should go well " hmmm i figured its been here a long while now and no issues , yes past google reports said not sure / dont know if you can use it but i havent had a issue in the last 7 k of using it .

And when i fill up theres all sorts of cars at the pumps and all years .. i guess by now if it was BAD we would have heard something :P

Conclusion for me is , cleaner burn fuel - cheaper thn BP and Mobil 98 ( use your countdown voucher & even cheaper ) , stops pinking and goes well ..oh and is mixed down at the mount :D

Hey guys , just noticed this thread while doing a search for stero's from the Stagea thread i normally look on - and found all this kiwi chat :(

ive had my stagea now for about 4 months and love it , heaps of room for my two Golden Retreivers in the back .

The car is a 2.5 non turbo M35 S1 Axis model - im lucky if i see 1 stag a week on the roads , rare which keeps them special :P

Anyway been looking for a Double din conversion face plate as ive been looking to change the stereo so i can play my ipod and control it through the head unit , not having much luck .. got quoted $600 for the face plate which incorporates the A/C unit , mine is the non bose and no sat nav - and yes agree to get the stacker out looks to be a mission !!

on the gas note earlier in the thread - mine pinked a little on 95 ron so changed to Gull 98 - cleaned out all the crap i think , tail pipes look near soot free and goes very well now , been using it for the last 7k and no issues , so can only asume the gull has cleaned out the carbon build up issue

good kiwi thread ;)

welcome james nice car mate 98 definetly the way to go

Thanks for the update on the Gull fuel James! I think we did discuss about the fuel earlier on this thread actually... anyway, if you are fueling Gull, there's a station on Ti Rakau Rd that is usually 4c cheaper because it's a unmanned station. Not too sure if the 98 there is cheaper as well or not.

Anyway guys, I found out something today. Every thursday evening, the Mobil station on Smales Road near Dannemora has discounts on its fuel! Saw today 91 at 1.67 instead the usual 1.78! Apparently my colleague told me it's only on Thursday evening. The 98 was I think 2c cheaper only though which I filled up my car with. :P

Good to know :( i think aussie has specific days too when gas is cheaper ..well in melbourne anyway so my mate tell me ..lets hope it catches on more here !!

being out west i normally use the Gull New lynn or henderson stations .

Thanks for all the feedback. I might give Gull 98 a go then. I've been using BP 98 for about 3k and it's been faultless. Getting an average of 12.5L/100km, mostly city driving as well so I'm happy with that. Interesting to compare, especially if it's cheaper!

Yeah! Thanks for the updates on fuel as well! I've been using Mobil 98 so far (trying to boycott BP for their blunder on the Mexican Gulf) :P

So far the computer is showing 7.9km/litre which equates to approx 12.6L/100 km with stop go traffic from home to work everyday. I might try Gull 98 as well next time and see what kinda return it's giving me! :(

Yeah good call on the BP blunder, unfortunitely for me there is no Mobil close that stocks 98 and the BP that does is just down the road.

Interesting that our cars are drinking almost the same. Mine being the 3L wagon, just shows you how similar they all are.

Hey Mike! Yeah... it's sometimes hard to find a Mobil with 98! :(

Just funny as I used to remember when I had my Mazda, I was eager to find a Mobil with 95! Was living in the city then and the Mobil only had 98! Anyway, from the type of fuel used thread in the forum, seems like the aussies are finding BP actually being a better fuel for our cars as it seems to be giving better fuel consumption. I haven't actually tried BP but was thinking of actually giving it a go as well. But it seems like we are getting fairly similar numbers based on the computer although I do have to say I don't really push the car much so far and am pretty sure that number will drop if I punch the accelerator more! :P

Thanks Pat :P

98 definatly seems the gas of choice then for VQ engines..

A belated welcome James.

Sorry I've been head down and tail up this week. Interesting about how your tailpipes are cleaner with Gull 98. I think I read somewhere recently that about the only problems Gull biofuel causes is damage to fuel lines and fuel pumps in older cars, i.e. older than ours. I may give it a go also. Just a pity Gull aren't closer to us. I've got the n/a 2.5L VQ25DD also, and was going to strip down the plenum and intake later in the year as I saw quite a carbon build up after the throttle valve when I checked a short time back. I'm at 87Km at the moment.

Hey Dave! Haven't seen you in the forum for awhile! :P

Yeah, I think I have read some negative stories about biofuel as well. I guess my earlier conclusion was "Better not risk it"! But seeing that with James having tried it and the results seems positive, I should perhaps give it a try too! :(

Mine's a VQ35 though so not too sure if there'll be any difference, but they are basically similar year engines, so I suppose should be pretty similar in terms of their 'adaptability' to biofuel.

Not too sure about this, but are biofuel supposed to be cheaper in Oz? Also, not too sure I understand how the biofuel will end up as 98 as well... as it's saying there's 10% ethanol... so wouldn't that made the balance of 90% to be normal fuel? Or are they using 900ml of RON98 fuel + 100ml of ethanol to make up 1 litre of biofuel?

:D

I'm still hesitant about using Gull bio ethanol fuel (e10) because the direct injected VQ30 and VQ25 engines have very different fuel supply setups, different pumps and injectors running at much higher pressures and tolerances than the VQ35 system.

The problems with ethanol mix gasoline is that the ethanol attacks some types of rubber used for seals and pipes. Ethanol fuel also 'gums up' if there is no flow for a while which is why it should not be used on carburettor engines as this 'gum' blocks the float needle. I assumed that this gumming action may also cause an issue in the fine nozzel area of direct injectors like the ones used on VQ30DD and VQ25DD engines.

So I'm staying clear for now. Mobil 98 for me.

Thanks Chad, you make a good point...again! :( Might warrant further investigation for use with direct injection.

Hmmm.... not too sure how the VQ35 will react to the e10.... anyway, been using Mobil and it's pretty good considering has that 8c discount if u go for a car wash and I get a 5c discount from my fuel card if I don't need a car wash.

Just drove 2 trips to the city and back y'day and today + some city driving and I am averaging about 9.3km/litre (10.75L/100km) which is probably pretty good I supposed. Used to be doing around 7.9km/litre if I am just driving from home to work (Howick to Manukau) due to the stop go traffic esp in the morning.

Gentlemen,

Admire your passion for the M35. I'm on the Shore with a silver 250RS with black roof racks. Might see you round and may have a few questions for you in the future.

Cheers

Ha ha yep plenty of puzzled looks. Had a few ask me about it, one guy stopped me in a car park to ask me as he was considering one himself. I'm certainly very happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone (tip tronic aside, I don't use it for that reason).

As for the ipod dock, it does require instalation into the back of the deck. This does look to be a big job but there is good information and pics both here and at G35.com. I've had a good look through and and a poke around the dash and intend on getting it done one day next week. If your handy with tools it shouldn't be a prob. just got to plan well so no surprises.

The unit does not display song info on the car deck, only on your ipod. It does charge the ipod though and your steering wheel controls work also, if you have this. You access the input by pushing the disc button once for CD then again for ipod, the main deck display just shows disk 1 song 1 as if a CD. The model I got was for our nissan and is AL-1080D. This also has a 3.5mm aux input which I will use for the rear DVD player, if I want to hear it, and if I want I can plug a minidisc or similar into this as well. It has a button on the unit to change between inputs. I've got kids so DVD is useful but I doubt your dogs need DVD :) .

Here's the link: http://www.anycarlink.com/

For me this covered all bases and retained all standard features. As for playing the DVD thru the factory front screen that will require the AV lead from Chris Rodgers (on this site) and will plug into the TV tuner box in the rear (NTSC required). Actually Chris has everything you need to do whatever with these, sometimes it's just a pity he's over there. You should talk with him about options.

And a combined kiwi section sounds good too...probably won't happen though and as our cars are essentially the same you'll have to spend as much time in this V section as well gathering info.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info :) ive taken a look on the anycar site - looks interesting , ive noticed the guy selling them in china is offering 12 months warranty but the Chc guy is only 90 days ? odd ..

I would really like the deck to show the ipod name and track , thus really making the pod redundant in using , other wise i would have to get like the G35 side trim cradle and ipod holder to mount and see the pod . I was thinking of mounting the ipod in the armrest and docking it with the apple universal dock - run the cable through the center consule and read the info on the deck - BUT i have to find a double din facia 1st , Chris has quoted me $750 AUD and direct from japan to me , a lot of coin and way more than the deck i ws looing at , so ive mailed a guy in the states who sell them for about $400 kiwi which includes the A.C controler .. these are OE facia's .

will see how it turns out :D

Jusy changed the oil on the stag today .. pretty easy to get too , heaps of room round the oil filter - used a HKS oil filter and 5 L of magnatech oil ... and the Air filter ..what a bugger to get out !! bugger all room to slide the filter out when you unclip the 4 clips , filter looked like it hadent been changed in years abd i can see why they dident bother to get it out !!

has a nice new HKS filter slotted in now :ermm:

Hi Tim , seems all the M35 guys are coming out !! i still only see about 1 a week ...you have a 2.5T being the RS right ?

welcome to the Kiwi chat room :D

Hi Tim! Welcome!!! I've been seeing more M35s too! And loads of v35 sedans! Unfortunately, I have only seen 1 v35 coupe since I got mine! :D

Wonder where have they disappear too! I used to see at least a couple on the weekends that I was waiting for mine to arrive! Sure hope there are more v35 coupe owners coming here to chat and discuss about the car.

Also, have anyone seen a v36 on NZ road yet? I've seen a couple of sedans before but never a coupe! Saw 1 on sale on trademe the other day! I think it was Ellis Utting....

Quoforever, no turbo. Wouldn't mind though. Tempted to get another M35, either a 3L or 2.5T. RS is the base model which has since been rebadged the RX, not that there's much "base" to it!

    • From there it is trickier. Ecutek seems to be one of those closed ecosystems where everyone password protects their tunes which means I either choose a tuner and can't change from them and can't make any changes myself for any reason, or I have to buy the tuning software (about $4k) and then get someone to tune from scratch (which is not simple with all the multi dimensional tables these days). Once you buy about 300 "flash points" per ECU you can get it tuned and add their "RaceROM" function which hacks extra functionality like launch control onto the ECU, and also makes extra data available for logging over CAN Not sure what I'll do there yet; I'm tempted to use one of the overseas shops that does billions of remote tunes of the platform instead of starting from scratch locally, a lot can be done online these days.
    • Can I log IAT eh? Well, can now So next thing was looking at data logging. Not straight forward because none of the motorsport displays have cracked the nissan/inifinti CAN and ECU based displays don't do g logging, lap timing, predictive laps etc.  So, I bought an Ecutek dongle from Tunehouse (Oz distributor). Even without a tune onboard that allows display and logging of about 50 parameters via Android (and presumably iOS) app. Approx 600 for the bluetooth + Usb version That gives me (pretty ugly but) functional dash display on Android And logging of these parameters I'll play around a bit over the break, but at least now I can make sure I have oil pressure when I get to some track testing.
    • I don't know what globes/headlight connector they run, but I'd be looking for a female adapter to plug into the existing headlight on one side. Something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256017245989 Then I'd use a pair of single input, double output relays (one for low, one for high), mount them in a spare space in the fuse box if you want to to look more original (and be easier to maintain). Then 2 new power sources from the main stud in the fuse box via a fuse to each relay. Low from the headlight adapter pin triggers low relay and high from the high headlight adapter pin triggers high and low. Earth the relays and new headlight sockets and off you go. Because it triggers off the original headlight all of the dipping/hi on/high flash all still works
