R32 Gtr Speedo

I'm not exactly sure how the speedo works in an R32 GTR but I reckon in the old days a cable ran into the back of a cluster, and drove it. My car makes a small clattering noise from behind the cluster when you're at or above 50kmh. A little like when you put a Star Wars swap card in the spokes of your BMX's spokes (yeah, I never had tuffs......) As you vary your speed down from 50 to zero is goes away. If I'm right that there is a mechanical drive back there, then it sounds almost like the speedo cable is slipping where it connects to the speedo. Almost as if the connection had failed and the cable is rotating in the 'couple'. Geddit?

Any ideas as to what it is and how to fix, as it is a little annoying?

All gauges have full functionality, including the speedo. It's unlikely the dash has been tampered with as my car shows 187k klms and import papers verify.

yeah its a cable with a needle that connects at the back of the speedo, not sure bout the noise but when my one was slipping, the needle would bounce around below 80kms, a new one is $110 or so from nissan and fixed the issue

ive got this noise behind my dash (i think) seems to come after a mins of driving from cold, will caltter for afew seconds, at any speed, go away then come back, it usualy lasts only few minutes if that, and only started doing so ever since i took my dash cluster out to pull the bloody "hicas" light out...

might pull it out again and put abit of vaseline on the drive that goes into the cluster...
