Tom,

its a pretty simple concept, its called risk. I thought you would know that owning your own business and owning a massa and ferrari?

the lower the risk, the better it is for an insurance company, which in turn, a lower risk helps with lower premiums to valued customers.

a skyline, high loss ratio for many insurers, to minimise risk, they have guidelines and rules. another way is not having that risk at all.

some insurers wont care where car is, however you'll get basic benefits if that. ie they chose repairer, repairs arent guarnteed. its market value, you'll have higher excesses to pay etc.

specialty insurers do care where car is and how being used. and if you meet their criteria, its a top policy.

Anyhoo,

for car lovers like ourselves, wouldnt you want to look after your fincial interest? your pride and joy?

my mazda isnt worth much, but f**k me I look after it, drive it as a 3rd car, its locked in the garage, i live in a nice safe suburb but still dont want to leave it out.

I have a bluebird for daily driving, its a car Im not worried about, so I have less cover on it

mazda = good car, good policy, low risk

bluebird = daily, dont care, TPO cover

I know it's about risk, but it doesn't make sense why I have it for a little over $1100/year and people older, more driving experience, stock standard, clean driving history, lock the car up every night have a higher insurance rate. That is what I can not figure out. I even double checked my policy in writing to make sure there was no mistakes.

Not that i'm complaining either lol, just find it strange...

I consider myself a low risk individual, rarely consciously speed (these days), never ever had a claim that was or wasn't my fault, never had anything stolen, no finance ect... but taking my history of 1 speeding fine that = 3 month suspension, 23year old male who is seriously into his cars, I thought I would have been raped by insurance aswell. Maybe they have secret vans that follow me when i drive to see if i do stupid things and realise that i rarely do stupid things on the roads and are then a safe risk? Or maybe my renewal was due on the unoficial day where they half what the insurance premiums should be???? Unless because everything is insured by AAMI/Justcars so they gave a special deal and didn't make it known to me???

Also did a quote with DAWES insurance for the r33 same info as justcars and they came back with $2.8k crazy insurance guys

But I wish I had a $5k premium and a $12k excess... my cars insurance combined is less than $3k for all 3 cars and excess is about $1800 for all 3 :)

perhaps you were a decent/nice bloke to the person on the phone andf they liked you so gave you a good price!? (not saying you arent a good/nice bloke - being nice helps in general!! LOL)

2 things - never ever talk back/argue/be a smart ass with people who deal with your food, and can have an influence on a price on anything!!!

thats my belief haha

We share the same beliefs, especially with the food part...

Figued it out, they don't give two shoots about loss of licence, they just want it on record so if it has been too many times they are likely to refuse insurance for the following year... looks like driving history doesn't change premiums much/if at all as long as it isn't 11tybillion times in a year.

No claims history with full comprehensive since I started driving pays off in the end I guess

Your location will also play a part in insurance.

Crazily, for me to insure my car at my mates place who lived less then 2KM from me, nearly doubled the price of insurance... With ONLY that change... That'swhat I call crazy!

1st part: True

2nd part: Now that'd be a 'first'.

Consider moving back from 2 kms away to reduce insurance? :)

Honestly you should not be complaining I am awaiting my skyline to come out of compliance at the moment and just car quoted me 2100 for a Nissan Skyline R34 GTT series 2. At least you are driving a GTR. I will be parking on the street as well because my house does not have a car port. You should be grateful

2400/y for insured for 15k. admittedly i don't have the best driving record but it's not horrible; i've got 12 points at the mo, got the only 3 i've ever lost back in may.

Totally agree, the last thing those people want are you screaming down the phone at them or you thinking you know everything about risk and liability..

people just need to stfu!

... ive had my Skyline & Micra insured with DAWES - FAMOUS INSURANCE for 8 years & found them to be the best as far as agreed value / excess & premium cost ... i call around from time to time to compare & i still find them the best value for money today ... im a firm believer that no one is rich enough or poor enough not to have insurance .. if youre rich well its not a problem & if youre poor you really cant afford not to have it ... it costs me around 30 bucks a week to fully comp insure both my cars for agreed values that realistically reflect what it would cost to replace to the same spec that they are currently in ... i went to great great lengths to document every process on the build of the Skyline offering up copies of every receipt including photos of every stage right up to completion ... in fact it took over 6 years to complete the car & every year FAMOUS agreed to increase the value to reflect A: what had i spent & B: its current value in relation to its completed state ... a set of Dunlop DZ03 255/40/17's each year for the Skyline cost approx $2400.00 which twice as much as i spend on it for insurance ... if you get paid weekly or fortnightly my tip would be set up a direct debit with your insurance company & pay for it as you go every payday ... seeing 30 odd bucks go from your bank account every week wont seem like a lot ... in fact you wont even miss it & hey presto !! youll be fully comp insured without thinking about !! ... cheers malcolm :D

Famous don't have the best policy benifits..

The excess are extremely high too.. like JC insurance..

And in my experience are a bunch of *Can't be said here*

I had insurance with them, they were the only place to go near a 19YO in a relatively stock R33.

Insured at $14 500, they want 3K a year. and in the region of that again if I claimed, no parking on the street (Or within 500metres of the house) etc etc etc, Really crappy conditions.

The year later, I had an even better NCB, guess what, they now wanted $3 600 a year, dropped "agreed" value to $12 000, and put the excess up a couple of hundred also, and then stated that within 1000KM of my house I was not insured when parking over night etc)

Left them, went to GIO, they were awesome, insured for $23K, from memory $1800 a year, and pretty affordable excess, then they stopped doing it moved to JC. No issues so far, I just made my excess high to get a $1400 a year premium.

And Terry: That double in premium was what I was quoted, then again, it seems to be if you change operators on the phone your premium can shift a few hundred! And his house was basically the start of a really dodgy neighbourhood, I live the 2KM away on the "good" side.

Oh and when I started with Famous, and GIO I had a perfect driving record and insurance record.

Understood!

Antidiscrination laws don't work here eh?

Matt - should have stuck with GIO :/

GIO were palming it over to Just Cars for the Imports, and Shannons for the classics/veterans.

To renew with "GIO" was going to cost me $3600, to then be palmed to JC.

JC I think I'm on $1400 atm.

Shannons wanted $4400...

I would have loved to stay with GIO, but they shut up the custom car division.
